Good Evening PreGamers!
Washington Nationals @ St Louis Cardinals
Both teams come into this game having produced an average of 5.8 runs per game over the last week and I foresee a high-scoring contest tonight. Gio Gonzalez gets the nod for the visiting Nationals and he has had an August to forget, he is 1-3 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 5 outings this month and opposing line-ups are hitting a lofty .333 against the southpaw hurler. He certainly is not the pitcher of 2014 where he held opposing hitters to just a .230 BAA and pitched to a 1.20 WHIP.
John Lackey will take the mound for the Cardinals; the right hander is 8-3 with a 1.91 ERA in 13 ‘Home’ starts in 2015 and has pitched fairly well for most of the campaign The Nationals did however rough him up earlier this year to the sound of 8 Hits and 5 ER in less than 6 innings of work. He has a 4.58 ERA in three career starts versus Washington.
I really like a play on the Over in this match-up, I believe 7 is too low as I handicapped this Total at 8. I’ll back both teams to stay hot with the bats and put up enough runs for the Over to cash the ticket.
