Gentlemen relax. Just a friendly baseball argument here.
Thanks Bone, but I understand Rbc's point of view. I made some strong negative comments about Jennings and Rbc would like me to elaborate and be more specific.
I'm involved with the Marlins from a betting and Rotisserie standpoint. I have all three of their starting OF's on my team. So I do pay attention to them - and am highly disappointed.
Much of my negative opinion of Jennings comes from baseball people who know what they're talking about and whose views I respect.
The perception - which I buy into - is that Jennings isn't a field manager. That's not his area of expertise. I don't incorporate managing into my handicapping. While there are some really good managers it's just not enough of an edge to effect my handicapping.
However, I don't believe Jennings is on par with every other manager because of his lack of experience. I understand he has bench coaches, but I just don't want that disadvantage especially when it's not factored at all into the line.
There are a lot of subtle decisions that go into managing. Some of them are based on instincts. Some on feel. Others come from experience. I believe Jennings is lacking in those areas when compared to other managers.
Time will tell. I believe, though, Jennings is strictly a stop-gap measure. I will say Jennings isn't helped by the horrible seasons Yelich and Morse are having. I also think Ozuna and Stanton have been disappointing. It's a bad break, too, for the Marlins that they've suffered so many starting pitching injuries and Cishek has been totally ineffective as the closer this season.
