Yesterday was awful, our first Ofer in a long time. Now we move on and check out Saturday.
Phil / Wash — Pissed we didn't play Phils last night just like I wanted to. Another one of those games where I talked myself out of it for whatever reason. Tonight they send Burnettt to the bump, a probable August waiver trade candidate. It should come as no surprise, but the Phils have lost three of his last five starts, all of which came on the road. Can Philadelphia really beat Washington three straight? Possible.
Cin / Miami — Have been on either side of this series in back-to-back games. Shouldn't have gone against the Reds last night and we paid for it. I see Homer Bailey is continuing to not get any love, but do like him in this one. The Reds have not won a Bailey start since June 29, so that probably counts for something.
San Fran / Mets — Total getting lower means I like San Francisco. Peavy got squeezed a bit in his first San Fran start (in my opinion) which didn't help anyone backing the Giants. They're a road dog here and we might be backing them. With the total coming down below seven runs, taking the run line might be our best option, too.
Mil / Stl — Would certainly fade Masterson in his first start with the Cardinals. Do like Lohse here, especially with the Brewers being such a good team on the road this season. Low total, I'll take the best offensive team in a game. Looking at RL.
Pitts / Arizona — Arizona screwed up last night in a game they should have won. But they didn't, and now remain in the cellar of the National League West. Pittsburgh leap-frogged the St. Louis Cardinals into second place in the Central. They've got Vance Worley on the mound in this one and he's going to have to pitch well for them to win. He has been pretty good this season, picking up two wins in four starts on the road this year. I think they are the right side here.
Arl / San Diego — Surprised Kennedy didn't get moved at the deadline. He could be an August move, but I expect him to be claimed rather quickly, so I'm not sure he'd go to a very good team. He can still pitch the Padres to wins late in the season and being at home, against a subpar Atlanta lineup (for whatever reason they have a lot of talent). Probably passing in this one, but I do like Santana on the hill too. Could this be a 3-2 type game?
Cubs / Dodgers — Pass. Really don't see the Cubs continuing to beat the Dodgers out in LA, but they hit the shit out of the ball last night. Not going to pay the price for the Dodgers in this one.
Kan / Oakland — Fading Lester in his first start might be a good idea. It's another one of these super inflated prices on a team that has been winning all season (and they are great). But, make sure before put slam them into a big parlay that you recognize their inability to hit lefties consistently. They're one of the worst teams (surprisingly) in the league against southpaws and Jason Vargas is a guy they have seen before when he was with Seattle, and his numbers aren't great against them, but they aren't horrendous either.
Yanks / Red Sox — Backed the Yanks last night and lost. Total is coming down despite having a couple of inexperienced guys on the mound. National TV game, rivalry, pass.
Texas / Cleveland — Indians blew the doors off of the Rangers last night. I expect more of the same here in this one. RL is drawing plus money (because House is inconsistent) but I think this is going to be one of our plays tonight.
Sea / Baltimore — Orioles are hot, man. Orioles are very good at home. Seattle is getting a lot of love in this one as James Paxton has been able to fool the Angels twice in victories. I don't see it here tonight. I like Baltimore even though it appears nobody else does. Mariners are good on the road, but Orioles are playing very well.
LAA / Tampa — Left one off yesterday in the Angels. Knowing that Tampa is favored here in this one, not going to try and talk myself into backing the Angels. Pass.
Tor / Hou — Have won and lost recently with the Blue Jays. They're a 60-win team that just didn't get the job done last night in Houston. The knuckleballer is on the bump in this one and he obviously isn't the guy he was for the Mets a few seasons ago. But he's still pretty solid. Would we dive back in with the Blue Jays again?
Min / White Sox — Minnesota.
Col / Detroit — Tigers RL here. Best team in the league at hitting lefties. Morales was good enough to keep them down a bit yesterday and Detroit hasn't played the best at home. Beating up on the Rockies and sweeping them out of town would help move this in the right direction. Porcello can win No. 13 tonight and he's been splendid all season. Like him to get the win tonight.
