Pat Summitt
One of the Best? Yes, Yes and Yes.
I'll be honest I watched very few women's basketball games over the course of my life..I honestly just couldn't watch it growing up watching men's sports all of my childhood and teenage years. When anyone asks me who the best coaches are ever, her name comes to mind. I think it has too. The hardware she has to her name proves that. Summitt is now 64 and has been admitted into a hospice. Reports are her health is deteriorating rather fast. It's rather unclear just how much time she has left in this life.
Tennessee was the only girls basketball I watched. I thought the talent level of the girls she coached was bar none the best in the country when I was a bit younger. I never took into account that a women's coach could be so good. So I watched the girls games a few times and I thought to myself, I wouldn't mind playing for her. She pushed her girls and was very intimidating IMO. She had passion and fire. I never thought I would see a girls coach get so involved. Perhaps I was narrow minded when I was a bit younger. Now I think she really helped basketball as a whole for men and women.
She retired a few years back with dementia and she won a total of 1,098 games. 8 Nat'l Titles. She also was Nat'l coach of the year 7x and SEC coach of the year 8 times.
Although we can't turn back the clock in time, If I knew then what i know now, I would be watching much more of Volunteer women's basketball and Pat Summit.
