Hanley moving to 1B unless they can move him... chances are if a team calls and offers a PTBNL and takes say 75% of his contract they will do it, but (if) he can play 1B at least decently, perhaps his offensive numbers will be more like they were at the start of last season than at the end after he wore down playing the OF, not to mention after 2016 they will need a capable DH... Pablo on the other hand was signed more for his postseason prowess but obviously can do better than his sub .250 avg... either way, these guys will be difficult to impossible to move and just have to hope for better results...
The Price signing makes the Sox a whole lot better in 2016 and likely a couple years after that... there is an opt out after 3 years (a'la Greinke) and in reality the Sox best hope is that Price has a stellar 3 years and opts out to test the FA market which will relieve them of the albatross years of the deal... and to be honest, that's what I expect to happen...
Problem is, Mookie Betts is a FA after 2020, arbitration eligible in 2018, Xander Bogaerts is FA after 2019, arbitration eligible in 2017... those 2 guys will command huge contracts and they could possibly be saddled with $33 mil on the books for Price on the back end of the deal... of course DD is worried about fixing 2016, that's what he was brought here to do... and Price accomplishes this... I guess they will worry about 2020 when the time comes
