Bob Costas isn't just the best interviewer of his generation, but he's also one of the smartest and wittiest announcers of all time.
Costas was doing the Major League Baseball telecast of last Friday's Cardinals-Cubs game when he saw Cubs reliever Pedro Strop pointing to the sky as he was being pulled after blowing Jake Arrieta's well-pitched game by giving up a game-tying homer and leaving several runners on base.
Strop's actions prompted Costas to say, "We can only ask, or wonder, that he (Strop) is asking some departed relative for forgiveness for this atrocious performance."
Great line by Costas. But the always classy Costas felt he was too harsh in this age of political correctness. So he apologized to Strop.
Costas was right. Too many of these players seem to bring a religious element into their actions by pointing to the heavens whether getting a strikeout, hitting a home run or just moving a runner over. I won't go as far as saying it's offensive, but I do find it annoying.
Just play the game.
On the handicapping front, I had a tough extra-inning loss on my Double Star Sunday play with the Mariners and Felix Hernandez. I'm confident about coming back strong today with two plays, including a Triple Star play that can be found here along with my packages: /pregamepros/pro-bettor/bettor.aspx?id=7746#capper.
As always, let's have no bad luck!
