Pete Rose is in hot water again after it has now come out that he did bet on baseball as a player. He initially said he didn't.
Scott used to do a radio show with Pete back in 1996 and it was around the Time that Pete got the lifetime ban from Baseball. Scott felt at the time that it was wrong to keep him out of the Hall of Fame because of what he did. Then about a year later he recanted his thoughts and felt that he should be left out from the HOF. Scott states that by not betting on his team he could have been sending a signal to organized crime and that may be the biggest reason that Scott feels he should be left out. There may have been times that he just sat players, knowing he had a bet against his team. That behavior trumps all that he did on the field.
Steve feels he should be in the HOF. They should have separate criteria for on the field and off the field. He still wishes that Pete would have just come clean right away, but still they shouldn't hold him out, because hes was a great player on the field. He was the first singles hitter to become a true star and was the inventor of the headfirst slide, plus made everyone else play harder. Steve thanks him for all the great on the field memories. Karas and Horning both bet on football and they were suspended for just a year. Pete belongs in according to Steve.
Andy felt that for many years Pete deserved to be in the HOF, because of his accomplishments on the field, but he has changed his thought's a little of late. Still he does feel that his accomplishments should be in the Hall somewhere. He feels they should have a special wing in the hall for players that have done bad things off the field, with a disclaimer stating why they are not in the main part of the HOF.
Scott states that he is a liar and just being in the record books should be enough, and Agrees with Andy that Pete shouldn't be in the HOF as a person, but his accomplishments should.
