54 hours and counting. If my math is correct, as of the moment I’m writing this edition of the daily blog, that’s how many hours remain until pitchers and catchers report to camp for the start of spring training.
That’s good news for me, as baseball has always been my favorite sport. I’m not speaking only from a gambling standpoint. Anyone who knows me even casually can pretty much attest to the fact that there isn’t much in life that I prefer to baseball. I’ll assume most of you can figure out that whatever might top baseball in terms of a preferred activity has nothing do with sports.
As fas as this blog is concerned, I’ll be intermittently previewing teams over the next several weeks until I’ve covered them all. As of today, I’ve yet to form any concrete opinions other than that the 2015 Washington Nationals will have no excuses heading into the season. On paper, the Nats are clearly the favorite to win it all. That doesn’t mean they will, of course, but they’re absolutely loaded.
In case anyone is interested, my team is the Red Sox. I’m a native New Englander and while I’ve now been in Las Vegas for more than half my life, the Red Sox roots that were firmly implemented when I was a little kid are still intact. That doesn’t mean there aren’t occasions when I will be forced to root for the other side due to financial considerations. But I’ll admit there’s a tinge of disappointment when my work indicates that fading the Red Sox might be a good idea.
Anyway, look for the first team installment at the start of next week. I’ll try to give some kind of lean as to whether a team might be a good Over or Under option on the win totals that are now being posted at the various books. Note however, that I have a tendency to wait until right before the start of the season to make my final calls along these lines. That might cost me some value, but I prefer to wait as there’s nothing worse than jumping on something early and then having a trade or an injury sabotage what I thought might be as good wager.
Meanwhile, I’ll be counting down those hours until spring training is officially underway.
