Former Pregame Pro Marco D'Angelo, Ken Thomson and I filmed a video before the season talking about the Pittsburgh Pirates season win number. Marco being a Pittsburgh native talked about the personnel as well as a bit of regression in his decision to recommend the under with the Pirates. My counter to his argument was the talent Pirate minor leaguers on the verge of being called up. I said if the Pirates make the moves early this is a team that has the ability to surpass the posted total. With the Pirates hovering around their projected winning percentage it will be some time before we find out if Marco was right on his projection.
That said, without analyzing front office tendencies along with minor league talent, you are doing a disservice to your betting bankroll if you don't look at the big picture. I bring this point up now as today ends the MLB trading deadline and certain teams are doing what they normally do, either go for it or build for the future. I talked in another preseason video about the likelihood of the Phillies trading away high priced talent. The only problem is that most of that talent is having down years. Other than the Red Sox who look to be sellers as opposed to buyers we are finding the same teams doing what we expected at this time of year. The Yankees and the Dodgers for example are buying while the lesser payroll teams are building for the future. Something to keep an eye on when playing your 2015 MLB Season Win Numbers.
