My NBA free plays have been rotten, but I’m going to try another one tonight. At least this time I’ll be backing a red hot entry, so I’ll just hope I don’t cool them off.

Take: HEAT -4.5

The Miami Heat are still on fire in what remains one of the most unlikely hot runs I can recall in any sport. This team looked completely dead in the water midway through the season. Yet, thanks to a 23-5 rampage, Miami has now tied Detoit for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. In fact, the Heat are just two games out of the #6 slot currently held by the Pacers.

As for Minnesota, this is a team already whetting the appetite of its fan base for next season. The talented young pieces are starting to fit together and the Wolves are a more than respectable 17-13 over their last 30 games.

But 17-13 pales in comparison to the mind boggling 23-5 current run for Miami. The Heat appear to be in a favorable situation tonight as they’ve been at their best playing off a win, particularly at home.

This could be a tight battle. Minnesota is very unlikely to catch Denver for the final playoff spot in the West, but the team is definitely trying to win games. Nevertheless, with the Miami express still churning at warp speed, I have to think risking a small handful of points with the Heat at home is the way to play.
