Dallas Mavs at Indiana Pacers -5.5 -110
A determined and healthy Paul George Pacers team should wipe the floor against a heavily dependent 3 point shooting Dallas team here. The pressure to perform and live up to the big time contract might be too much to handle for new Dallas accusation Harrison Barnes. He shot poorly in the playoffs with Golden State last season and continued to shoot poorly in the preseason this month and one should expect that to continue especially against a healthy Paul George. Former Atlanta Hawk Jeff Teague is running the show this season for Indiana and him and Monta Ellis will form one of the quickest backcourts in the NBA this season. If you like Dallas tonight, you're banking on them exploding from behind the arc tonight which to me is way too much to ask especially in a season opener on the road against a team full of veterans with experience. If it is a fast paced game tonight, Deron Williams will have absolutely no answer for Teague on the defensive end which is why Indiana has a great shot to wipe the floor against Dallas tonight. Lay the 5.5!
On the Pacers also..Good Luck my Friend
Nba: 2-1 +0.90 (every bet is -110 unless you got reduced juice which of course is the way to go)
James Harden “Hype” and a basketball game somebody had to win
Rockets 114 Lakers 120
I had late action on the under 224 in LA last night which I didn’t post (will include it in my record anyways) and I’ll be the first to admit that it was dead within the first 3 minutes of the game. James Harden and the Rockets left off where they ended last season and the season before. No defense! When you score 71 points at halftime and 96 through 3 quarters, the win probability of a NBA team sky rockets unless you’re the Houston Rockets of course. Not to take anything away from this young Lakers team but Houston’s defense was so bad last night that Michael Jordan could have laced them back up and put in 20 plus. Lakers did show energy and they did show some fun fire under their new head coach Luke Walton but the problem that persists with both these teams and really has become a problem in the entire league is the fact everybody is just looking out for themselves (stats). Mark Jackson said it best while he was calling the game last night, “the mentality of everybody is I got mine (stats) while high fiving homies after the game not realizing the fact it’s still LOSING basketball” (can’t believe I’m agreeing with Mark Jackson of all people but he is right for once).
No matter what he says because video doesn’t lie, when the leader (Harden) of your basketball team refuses to switch off and play any sort of defense, it’s difficult for teammates to buy in and play any type of defense as well. Patrick Beverley didn’t play last night and will be out another 3 weeks but he isn’t going to be Houston’s savior. The season just began but if things don’t change soon for Houston, it can be one hell of a record breaking season in the points against department (Denver Nuggets gave up on average 130.77 per game in 1990-91) and if Harden continues to average 7 turnovers a game, Denver just might be in trouble.
So much more to discuss but so little time, will do later.
Boston Celtics at Chicago Bulls +1 -110
Boston opened up their season at home with a 122-117 win against the Brooklyn Nets yesterday but the eye test suggests Boston might have some problems as the game goes on in Chicago tonight. Even though they escaped against Brooklyn last night with a win, it was very clear to me not having Marcus Smart and Kelly Olynyk around really weakens this team especially their 2nd unit. One alarming stat from last night was the fact Boston’s backups got outscored 58-40 against Brooklyn. Boston is a team who needs to run and gun to make up for many of their weaknesses especially in the half-court but unfortunately they’re going up against a new look Chicago team whose main focus this season will be to run and gun. Everybody knows Chicago's head coach Fred Hoiberg has some new experienced toys at his disposal in Rondo and Wade but the main reason to play on Chicago is the fact Boston's bench consists of a rookie named Jaylen Brown who can dunk but can't shoot and a 2nd year player in Rozier who always had questionable shot selections. That just won't cut it off a back 2 back against a new look team who will be very motivated to start the season off 1-0 especially at home.
The one that got away because free throws actually do matter
T-Wolves 98 Grizzlies 102
Minnesota were 2 point dogs and closed the favorite last night and for T-Wolve backers, they did exactly what they were supposed to do at the beginning of the game by opening up a 20-3 lead but things got a little too ugly right after that. Memphis began to air it out behind the arc which eventually led to them hitting 45% (11-24) for the game. While Towns and Dieng performed well for Minnesota, Gasol, JaMychal Green and Randolph performed a tad bit better and in the end, free throws actually do matter. Wiggins had a shot to give the T-Wolves the lead with a minute and change left in the game by hitting 2 free throws but not only did he miss the 1st, he missed the 2nd which essentially sealed their fate. It must be noted Tony Allen, Brandan Wright along with new accusation Chandler Parsons didn’t play in this game for Memphis and M.Gasol is apparently on a minutes restriction to start this season even though he played 32 minutes last night. Out of this injury riddled bunch, Tony Allen is likely to see the court first which can't come any sooner because Memphis has 4 games coming up in 5 nights which we'll definitely take advantage of at some point. Another key point here is Minnesota has a chance for pay back because Memphis has to play them again next week in Minnesota (3rd game of the stretch). I do think the scheduling to start the season is a little ridiculous if you ask me.
Had the under. Damn half point put me at 4-2
instead of 5-1. Hate when that happens!
Not Nba Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh over 54.5 -110
Several people within my inner circle strongly believe it will be a shoot out in Pittsburgh tonight. Pittsburgh's defense will most likely get lit up tonight but their offense will try hard to keep up.
California at USC over 74 -110
There's really a consensus between everybody I know that it really doesn't matter who plays RB for USC tonight, they're going to do some damage against California tonight in a high scoring affair.
Want to fire at 74.5? Be my guest.
