John Ireland is the voice of the Lakers and he joins the show to talk about their offseason moves.
Scott felt that last week when the Lakers drafted Russell it was a step in the right direction for this team and it also may have opened the door for them to get Lamarcus Aldrige, but that just didn't happen. What went wrong?
It may have been the presentation to him and John feels that this team must change their approach when going after these big name guys. This is three years in a row that they have screwed it up. Years ago this team could just say we're the Lakers, we have money, come play for us. That isn't the case now. Greg Monroe turned this team and the Knicks down to go play for Milwaukee. That's a red flag right there.
Kobe did have a nice relationship with Lamarcus, but still in the past he has been a downfall for this team at meetings when the Lakers are trying to woo players. John states that he has info that this was not Kobe's fault though. It goes deeper than that.
Should the Lakers have gone after Love instead? John states that the team had just one Max spot left and they had to put players in a certain order. Aldridge was over Love.
The Lakers are thin in the front court and they could go after Cousins at Sacramento, but what do the Lakers have that the Kings would want? The Lakers have little to give them and it would have to be a 3 team trade to make that happen.
The Lakers may be forced to try an upgrade their team through trades. They may not have any other options, but they also don't have the right personnel to bring in a star.
Lamarcus wants to win right now and so the Spurs are the logical choice for him, but he may have just one shot to win the title there as Popovich, Duncan and Parker may not be there the next year.
