Joe Ostrowski is from 670 The Score in Chicago and has joined the show to give the lowdown on Chicago Sports.
the big news for the city right now is the loss of Derick Rose, who will be having knee surgery. Does this mean the Bulls are done now or can Jimmy Butler step up and lead this team deep into the playoffs.
Joe feels that they are done as do many of the Bulls fans. Still they are not sure that Rose is done for the year. He could return, but that is still up in the air and even if Doctors say he can play this is Derick Rose and he may just feel that it's not worth it to play this year.
Dave feels he may be turning into this year's Grant Hill, who did have a good career but still never was the player that he could have been thanks to a slew of injuries earlier in his career. Dave doesn't feel it will ever be the player that he can be and Joe agrees.
He has played just 33% of the Bulls games since the end of the 2011 season and eats up 30% of their cap space. Not a good situation for Chicago right now.
Joe also states that Fred Hoiberg is in the mix for the coaching job should Tim T. get fired. Tim just hasn't gotten along with upper management, a problem that has gone on for a few years now.
Turning to the gridiron for a moment. Could Mariota be headed to Chicago? Not very good really as the Eagles are expected to trade up to take him, plus they still have to make a decision on Jay Cutler. Joe feels that Cutler will stay. He also states that the Bears really need to worry about their defense than their offense. This has been a very bad defense the last 2 years.
On to Baseball. The cubs and the White Sox are both on the rise. This is a good time to be a baseball fan in the windy city. Joe states that it is a bout time and a longtime coming for Chicago fans. Last year the season was over for both teams in May.
The Cubs rebuilt their team from the ground up the last few years. They used to have the worst farm system in the majors and now may have the best. Joe feels that if they are really serious about winning now then they need to get into the Cole Hamels discussion. They would have a heck of a rotation with him, but the Phils are asking too much for Hamels right now. Joe states that the word around town is pretty much that the Cubs are a .500 team this year, but watch out next year.
The White sox also have a very solid team and should be a factor in the AL Central. They are set to make a move with strong pitching and plenty of good young bats.
The Sox are 20/1 and the Cubs are currently 16/1 to win it all this year.
