  • What does everybody think about this? I dont really get it

Gordon for 5 years 55 million

Villaneuva for something like 5 years 35 million

    There goes the cap space

    NBA 11/12: 33-30-2 +1.54 Units

    MLB 2011: 53-31-4 +30.38 Units
    MLB 2010: 12-12 +3.96 Units
    MLB 2009: 47-35 +15.27 Units

  • Terrible, idiotic moves by a fading GM - what has become of the once-shrewd Joe Dumars? So now the Pistons have, what, 9 SG and SF, and 2 PF? As I recall, that formula didn't work for the Knicks...is Isiah Thomas pulling the strings in Detroit now?

IMHO, it's the age of the ballclub:

    Rasheed has 14 years in

    McDyess and Iverson with 13

    Rip Hamilton finished his 10th

Prince and Brown had 7 and 8 respectively

Everyone else 4 yrs and under

The Pistons basically reloaded with some proven young guys.  I personally think it's a good move for them.

  • As a corollary, what contracts come off the books for Detroit at the end of this coming season? They need a player to build around, and I don't think Gordon, Rip, Tayshaun, or Villanueva is that player.

  •  Dan, Pistons are admitting that they're rebuilding, IMO, with these moves.  They'll likely lose Rasheed and McDyess in FA this month.  I fully expect them to stand pat with these signings and see how next season plays out before they decide a direction...especially when you consider that they have no coach.

  • Well, they'll be better with Iverson out of the picture, that's for sure.

I just don't see how a 'rebuilding' team can dump 80 million dollars on a good SG with no defensive ability and an inconsistent SF with no defensive ability. Signing Gordon isn't awful, since he can create his own shot and has infinite range, but Villanueva? He lost playing time to Luc Richard M'bah a Moute for goodness sakes, just because he can't listen to a coach or play team basketball. Detroit should have just mailed in '09-10, snagged a lottery pick, and spent as much money as is humanly possible to get one of the 2010 free agents. I just don't see how locking up money for 5 years is a good choice...

  •  Losing McDyess would be a bad move for the team..He was a beast inside and would be worthy a contract next season.
