The above picture is not of the Red Sox celebrating a World Series title or even winning the division. No, this is the Red Sox celebrating after they clinched a wild card berth. Come on. Isn't this going a bit too far? I'm all for players having fun. I think sports can turn into a business too much at times but do we really need to crack open champagne when we finish second in our own division?
The Red Sox have won two World titles over the past four seasons, and have made the playoffs in five of the past six. They aren't the lovable losers of years past. I hate the Yankees but you would never see that organization react this we if they nailed down a freaking wild card birth. And if the Cowboys ever cracked open beers because they went 9-7 and secured a wild card spot, I would be irate.
So I'm asking Red Sox Nation, what do think about Boston celebrating like rock stars after making the playoffs, when they were expected to make it all along?
The Red Sox and their fans have had nothing for so long. Whenever there's something, some story, or some event that they can make into a contrived "memory" they act like this.
The fans act like they think they're supposed to act when they win because it still doesn't make sense or come natural... these people think it's OK for your reliever to impersonate Charlie Sheen.
Tom, if there's one thing you should have learned from your time here it's that everything the Sox do is over the top. If they could put a David Ortiz fart in a jar I'm sure they would try to sell it. Up until they clinched the wild card it was a slow week so they decided to retire Johnny Pesky's number 6. Pesky played his last game 54 years ago. To the Sox ownership, celebration is just another commodity.
I'm sure the Yankees would give anything to be celebrating something right now LOL
