Let me set the scene by getting into the DeLorean and going back in time 14 years ago to the day. The Pittsburgh Steelers had just lost Super Bowl XXX to the Dallas Cowboys 27-17 in a game they could have easily won had it not been for Neil O'Donnell's three interceptions. The year before in Kansas City, the Chiefs had earned what remains their last playoff victory with Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh native Joe Montana under center. Montana ultimately retired, although that is not how he wanted his NFL career to end.Montana wanted to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they didn't want him. They wanted O'Donnell. Can you imagine Montana leading the Steelers against the Cowboys in the big game and then riding off into the sunset? I realize this is one of those "what-if" scenarios in which we'll obviously never know what could have been, but consider this: Montana would have been almost the same age as Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner is now if he had played with the Steelers then.Anyway, I just wanted to share this interview Montana did with Dan Patrick this morning and was curious what RJ and Marco think as their team prepares to win a record sixth Super Bowl title this Sunday. There is also a great interview with Falcons rookie QB Matt Ryan, who finds out for the first time that the Cardinals knew the snap count when they met in their Wild Card playoff game en route to the Super Bowl. Best of luck everybody and don't miss my Super Bowl package at Pregame Pros
Montana had the Steelers mentality IMO.
I would have loved to see it personally - why didn't Pittsburgh give him a shot?
Steelers didn't want to PAY Montana's Salary.
The Rooney's never went after high profile free agents never was their style and well I think they have done Ok doing it their way...Montana would have been a draw being a Western Pa boy having played at Ringgold High School. But the Pittsburgh Steelers don't need a draw as someone has to die to get season tickets to the Steelers. I know people that have been on Steeler waiting list for Season Tickets 10 years and counting.
Montana > O'Donnell
The following year Mike Tomczak was their QB in the playoffs LOL
I forgot to mention that Montana has some great stuff to say about how he would deal with T.O. if he was Tony Romo.
Matty,
How did Montana say he would handle T.O. ? since no one else has been able to,
T.O would look good back in Philly. McNabb to Owens was nothing better.
your right about that hammer !!!! what a great combo ! Best year of McNabb's career !
