Don Doane died after bowling a perfect game Phillies fans got to celebrate their second World Series title today in Philadelphia, and I came across another story about a bowler from Michigan who threw a 300 game before suffering from a heart attack. This got me thinking, what sports moment do you live for, whether it's a personal goal or watching your favorite team win it all?
I think everybody knows I may die without seeing the Cubs win the World Series, but I've still seen the Bears, Bulls, White Sox and Syracuse Orange all win championships in my lifetime and can't complain. My best personal athletic feat is scoring four straight hole-in-ones in mini golf, and I'm not sure I will do anything else close to that unless it involves a real hole-in-one
Anyway, I'd like to close with a quote from Todd Place, whose teammate Don Doane died after bowling his perfect game: "It was like a book, a final chapter," Place said. "He threw his 300 game with all of his friends, gave each other high-fives and it's like the story ended. He died with a smile on his face."
What final chapter would you write if you could have that one last shining moment?
My Broncos stopping the run LOL
My 6 yr olds 1st year of pee-wee basketball every Saturday. :)
Angels sweep the Red Sox in the ALDS, and in a freak accident, all of the other teams die in a natural disaster. As a result, the ALDS is again Angels vs. Red Sox and the halos sweep. The world series sees the Angels sweeping the Red Sox easily, with the ghost of Donnie Moore suiting up to strike out the side bringing the Angels their second championship. Bad luck for the Red Sox continues as their plane crashes into a manure truck ala Biff in Back to the Future.
This one is waaaay off the radar guys, I am a huge, huge fan of Indy car racing and still attend the Indy 500 every year and a couple of other races as well. There is a driver on the Indy circuit named Vitor Meira who is one of the classiest and nicest people in pro sports. He has finished 2nd in 8 races including twice at the Indy 500, you can go to you tube and type in Vitor Meira and watch the pass he made on Scott Dixon in this past years race, incredible! If ever a guy was due to catch a damn break it is Vitor. I would love to see Vitor Meira finally win this years 500. The guy does a ton of work with the special olympics and many charity events, 100% class act. I realize most have no real clue who he is but trust me on this one. In this age of prima donna athletes Vitor stands head and shoulders above the crowd. That would be my big moment to see.
Great responses so far guys - keep 'em coming :)

UConn winning some titles. I didn't happen while I was there; getting to the NIT was a big thing back then. It started with them winning the NCAA Men's soccer back in the 80's or 90's and since then, they've won the men's & women's basketball titles and now their football program is finally getting off the ground. Not bad for a relatively small university.
Four holes in one in mini-golf!

Yeah one of my best friends is from Connecticut Joe and went to Syracuse with me. Most of his friends went to UConn too and experienced some of the same things you did. I think the next step for the Huskies is to become a football power. They have come a long way in a short time, and there's no reason they can't replicate what Rutgers did the last few years.
CHARGERS TURNING THERE SEASON AROUND AND WINNING THE SUPERBOWL

Dallas cheerleaders showing us their boobies!
The Texas Rangers making the playoffs... I know, not much to live for.
I WOULD TAKE ANY BAY AREA TEAM WINNING A MAJOR CHAMPIOSHIP. BAY AREA TEAMS : A'S , GIANTS, 49ERS, RAIDERS, WARRIORS & SHARKS. SHARKS W/BEST CHANCE IN THE SHORT TERM.WE HAVE TO GO ALL THE WAY BACK TO STEVE YOUNG & THE 9ERS IN 1995, UNLESS YOU COUNT ARENA F'BALL. I DON'T.
Matty, I just read that one of your best friends is from CT. It's a small state. You can drive from SW corner to the NE corner in probably 2, maybe 2 1/4 hours. Does he still live here?
I graduated back in 1977; my brother caught some of the good stuff.
