Good morning guys, we cashed with the last freebie on the over 7.5 in the all star game and I will have another in a moment. Today marks a huge day in baseball lore. It was in this date back in 1941 that Jolting Joe Dimaggio had his incredible 56 game hitting streak snapped against the Cleveland Indians. It was on may 15 of that year that he went on his legendary run. My dad was 16 at the time and he talked about it some. Back then obviously coverage was not a fraction of what it is today and people listened to the radio attempting to keep up on any latest news with his streak. It's a streak that still holds today and I am curious who could make a serious run at it today. Paul Molitor and Pete Rose both made credible runs. Willie Keeler got to 45 games once but good grief, that was back in 1896. Rose stretched his up to 44 games back in 1978, I recall that vividly. What strikes me is even the amazing Ty Cobb only hit a peak of 40 games himself. I know, only is not the right way to put that. Bottom line is it very well could be a record that stands for a helluva lot longer. If anyone has a current player in mind I'd be interested in hearing it. I had thought for some time maybe Ichiro might make a stab at it but that's clearly not happening.
Okay, a free play. I am suggesting a small wager on under 8.5 in the Dodgers game at St Louis friday night with Haren taking the ball against Lance Lynn. I don't trust either offense much at this point. Although I will say this about the Cardinals. The defending National league champions are traditionally a strong second half ball club. I do expect them to come on, as usual.
On the business side I am eyeing a possible rabid dog release in baseball for friday night. I try my best to pick my spots with them guys. I have not had one in baseball since mid june. The all time mark with them is very strong. Since coming to Pregame as a Pro Capper the record with the Rabid Dogs covering all sports stands at 250-136, +225 units. This covers all sports and each time obviously performing in the role of underdog. I have not had nearly so many in baseball because as I have repeatedly stated, baseball is not my strongest sport from a handicapping standpoint. That would be football, hands down. But, I do pick my spots. Anyway, still looking hard at it and if pull the trigger I will get it loaded in asap.
That's it for today. I want to reach out also and welcome Phil Steele to the team once again. A lot of people are legends in their own minds in this sports wagering field but this man has earned the tag. It was a major coup for RJ to bring him on board. I have the utmost respect for his work. Okay, back to work guys, Take care.
