Ouch! Going to address the lousy stuff first. I've been more than patient with my baseball Triples and been tossing them around like man hole covers. I thought I had a great one last night with Oakland but it was not to be. To be candid I am marking the days until football. I offer up the most sincere props to those who are mastering baseball this summer.
I've been away on a mini vacation as I traveled to southern california to visit my daughter. It was fun but I am not certain I could live there. Spent a few days in Beverly Hills and those people simply don't occupy the same world as most. Stayed at the Beverly Hilton and people watching alone was a spectator sport around the pool. Had lunch a couple of times at Nate n Al's and can honestly say they have the best deli sandwiches I have ever eaten. My daughter is working on me hard to move out there but it is not an easy sell. I am a midwestern guy.
Okay, today in sports history. It was on this date back in 1984 that Doc Gooden became the youngest pitcher to appear in the all star game. For the record he was 19 years, 7 months and 24 days old. Gooden at the outset of his career looked like he might develop into the best pitcher the game had ever seen and no I am not stretching it. The guy was a beast. But, as did his teammate Daryl Strawberry, he fell to the allure of blow and it wreaked havoc on his life. It is my understanding both are doing fine now. Thankfully they survived that cocaine ride, many don't.
On the business side I do not have a featured release today. I can assure you it does the sales zero good to skip days but I firmly believe in thinking long term. I will not publish and market any game just for the sole purpose of making the cash register jingle. That's simply not right. It might be tomorrow, or it might be next week. As I clearly stated on many occasions here on the forum, baseball is not my strength. Football is. I don't sugar coat it. I will go up against anyone, anywhere in football, particularly the NFL. But not baseball and that is just the way it is.
Okay, let's try a free release. Actually the freebies in baseball have been solid this summer. Tonight I am suggesting a small wager on the Kansas City Royals as they welcome in the division leading Tigers. The Royals are finally back home after a road trip and they topped it off last night with a dramatic come from behind winner in Tampa where they cooled off the hot Rays this week. This is a critical four game series between these two heading into the break. It's been a long time since Kansas City has been this jacked over a series. Jeremy Guthrie takes the ball and although he is coming off a tough loss at Cleveland the guy is a bulldog and a veteran who should come up with a big effort tonight. I say the Royals grab this opener at home tonight. Thanks as always fellas and best of luck today. Enjoy the games!
