ROB CROWNE'S MEANINGLESS TREDNS OF THE DAY
I am planning a series of Handicapping Lessons. The first lesson will be about trends. Before I write it, I want to guage the knowledge of the forum..
For that reason, I have purchased a gaggle of computers, hired a bunch of assistants, and spared no expense to scour the internet this morning to find you the following meaningless trends. These are not 100% representative of all meaningless trends, howevere, and I will set the staff to work again, and give you more tomorrow.
The supposed purpose of these trends was either to show off how smart the website or handicapper is, or to help you with your own handicapping. These trends do neither.
THE CONTEST TASK
Who can tell me everything that is wrong with all of these trends? The person with the most accurate answer wins.
THE PRIZES:
The winner will get:
1. Hearty Congratulations from Rob Crowne
2. A feather in his cap in front of all his anonymous buds here in the forum.
3. The ability to claim that you won the "prestigious Pregame Forum Trend Handicapping Contest," and came in #1 out of 10,000 forum readers. This will be particularly useful should ever decide to become a sports tout.
Income taxes on all prizes will be the sole responsibility of the entrant. Value of Rob Crowne's hearty congratulations - $Priceless.
A hint: Don't bother checking to see if the actual trends themselves are accurate. You can assume they are. You may, however, want to follow the record of the trend to check to see if the trend accurately reflects the thing it is supposed to be measuring. But that, even if it is a problem with these trends, is not the entire answer as to why these trends are meaningless from as prediction tools.
The contest will end when I say so. So begin right away and leave your comments below. After I have posted the meaningless trends for tomorrow and gotten answers as to those, I will post the name of the winner, and a blog article with the first handicapping lesson about trends.
WARNING: Although it may be tempting, DO NOT use these trends as the basis for making picks today. They may all sweep the board. It doesn't matter. I have already told you that they are flawed and do not predict what they pretend to predict. Take my word for it. If you insist on being self-destructive, add up how much you will bet on each game, take 4.5% of that and devide the result in half. Then send that money to me. I guarantee that in the long run it will cost you less than betting on trends like these. Better yet, take the calculated amount and use it to buy one or more of my Pick Packages. That should have you winning in the long run.
