Beautiful morning here but my buddies expected me to be gloomy at breakfast. They know I love my Packers and right now they are in a tailspin. But two things blocked me from getting down in the dumps too much. First and foremost I have been following the Packers since I was a little kid. I became a fan at the age of 9 watching the Lombardi led Packers win the Ice Bowl. Hell, I remember watching them win the first two super bowls. I got on the Lambeau season ticket list over 30 years ago and just finally got my seats a few years ago. I own my share of stock and it hangs proudly on my office wall. Yup, safe to say I love the Packers. BUT, with that being said I can also acknowledge Packers fans are much like St Louis Cardinals fans in one huge way. Both are spoiled rotten. Fans just assume the team will make the post season. Year after year after year. I am guilty of that myself. Well, Packer fans are getting a real dose of reality this season and getting a chance to see how the other half lives. I honestly am not that shook up. Maybe as we age we mellow some with that stuff. I still love the Packers and Cardinals as much as ever, my emotions and expectations are just more grounded now than in the past. There are more important things in life, trust me. The second reason I am not freaking out is my wife and I are leaving tomorrow for a vacation to hawaii. Always wanted to spend a thanksgiving in hawaii and decided this year to just do it. Hard to be in to bad a mood when that is on deck.
The mood around campus is mixed over the Tigers and football. They competed for the most part at Tennessee but in the end got shredded. Yes, there are many wondering if first year head coach Barry Odom is in over his ski's. My honest reply is I just don't know. That team is under performing and I am convinced of that. They have more talent than shown. I think Odom has a sub par staff quite frankly. He needs to make some adjustments this off season or his time in the head coaches office will be short lived.
Texas appears to be about to give Charlie Strong his walking papers. To help ease his pain Strong can find some solace in the fact Texas will owe him 10.7 million bucks in the buy out. That will help his depression I am sure. Just my opinion but it seemed to me Texas hired a guy here they were never 100% enthused about or behind. It boggles the mind that Texas, in the heart of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the land has been unable to sustain any real success now for some time. It has to be driving a lot of Texas alum nuts. Texas has always had an inflated opinion of it's stature and right now they are getting a huge dose of humble pie shoved down their throats. They just lost to Kansas for crying out loud. It's my opinion Charlie Strong is a good man and good football coach. Somebody will be getting a top flight guy. He was in the wrong situation down there.
That was about it this morning at the table other than some political talk and I made a vow not to ever let that creep into this thread. I will honor that. Hope everyone has a great week and a safe holiday.
