Every week, as promised I will offer up some random thoughts regarding the Big 12 and SEC. Today I look back this past weekends action in the Big 12. Very random thoughts and as always I assure all who read this I have absolutely no agenda. I will scan the teams and simply offer up some personal views.
I have learned in life that when not looking forward to any particular task it is easiest to meet it head on and deal with it. Just yank the damn tooth so to speak. It's a philosophy that has served me well. This week it involves Baylor and their victory in Waco over Gundy's Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Boys were my top release in college for saturday and frankly they should have easily covered. As anyone who viewed the game would have to admit. But, as most of us know, things don't always play out that way do they. Baylor won the thing 35-24 to clear the spread. Lucky f-ckers. Sorry, some times losses linger, lol. But, the bottom line is they won the game and cleared the number for their bettors. Cowboys had their chances and blew it. First the crazy loss to Central Michigan and now this. This team has buzzards luck. Baylor travels to Ames this weekend to take on Iowa State and as I type this are laying 16.5 points. I expect the Cyclones to make them earn it all. As for Oklahoma State I have to admit I expected Mason Rudolph to burn that Baylor secondary a few times through the course of the game and it just didn't happen. Lot's of shorter crossing patterns. It is like a state secret with the health of key players so don't expect any straight answers out of Stillwater but I wonder if something is amiss with Rudolph. No time for the Cowboys to be licking their wounds. They have a huge home date with Charlie Strong and his Texas Longhorns. They need to forget that damn fumble on the damn one yard line and move the f-ck on. (Like me)
Speaking of Texas they had a week to marinate in the loss last time out to Cal. I am sure they will be in a rank mood when they hit Stillwater. As will be the Cowboys. I do firmly believe this will likely be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend guys. Kind of flying under the radar on the national scale but this will be a donny brook.
Iowa State got a much needed win and boost of confidence when they spanked San Jose State to the tune of 44-10. Most bettors, including yours truly always have a couple of games they left off their card each weekend where they look back when the dust settles and want to kick themselves squarely in the ass. Well, this was one of those games for me. The defense played very sound ball and the offense was clicking with a stellar five touchdown passes and zero picks. The team and fans needed this one badly. For the moment confidence is restored some and that is a good thing. This saturday the Baylor Bears are coming to town. If Baylor comes in too cocky they could get beaten here.
Kansas State played Missouri State and won a shortened game 35-0. Dave Steckel is the head coach at Missouri State and trying to prop up that program. I hope he has success. Dave is a good man, was the DC at Mizzou for Gary Pinkel and built some very, very good defenses. He is a motivator and like I said, a good man. I wish him success in Springfield. Also, my brother in law is former defensive lineman for the Bears and I'd like to see him quit moping over their losing. Kansas State is good guys. Better than most realize. This week they travel to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers in a key game. Wrong team favored, imo.
Speaking of West Virginia they earned a very impressive win last week against a solid BYU team 35-32. West Virginia is a spotless 3-0 on the season and seems to be getting little national respect. I think they are a good football team. No disrespect whatsoever here but I think they fall at home this weekend to Bill Snyder's Wildcats. If I am wrong I will eat the crow next week. I don't think I am.
Oklahoma is 1-2, (Weird) and had a bye week. I am sure Bob Stoops to the time to his full advantage. Sooner nation is not used to this and starting 1-3 is just not thinkable around Norman. They have had an extra week to prepare for this weekend their game with TCU. As this is being prepared the Sooners are favored by three and the dreaded hook. With all due respect to Gary Patterson I do hope he was on top of his motivational game this week because he has a rabid, frothing out of the mouth Oklahoma club crashing the party wanting to stick a cleat up some Horned Frog ass. I lean to the visitors here.
TCU. Props for an impressive win over SMU by 30 points. I saw the score in the first half and thought TCU might be in deep doo doo. I was at my reunion weekend in my home town and scrambling to keep up with things. But, I saw later that order was restored and Patterson's club took care of business. Like I mentioned up above they have a pivotal game in Fort Worth against a angry and snorting team from Norman Oklahoma. And, as I have mentioned in weeks prior these games are key recruiting games. Texas is fertile grounds and these two are a pair of the heavyweight vying for the bluest of the blue chippers. The game within the game.
Texas Tech was off last weekend and are also off this weekend. I am sorry, I could not pass that opening up. It was right down the middle. The Red Raiders are off a bye and the schedule has them hosting the Kansas Jayhawks this thursday night. Why this thing is scheduled as a thursday night prime time game escapes me. The Red Raiders are laying 28 and of course, the hook to the Jayhawks. They should win and cover this thing by the third quarter. I wish I had something positive to say about the KU football prospects but, well, they did win a game. September 3rd they beat Rhode Island. There you go.
That is it for now. Some good games this weekend. Very good games. And important. On my business end of things I have loaded up my Triple Star Rabid Dog Game of the Year for saturday. We are getting generous points and I won't be the least bit shocked for the outright win to come our way.
Hope everyone has a good week and best of luck with all your games except the ones you are up against me, lol. Take care guys.
