Been a busy day and this is the first chance to get on here so I will skip from monday morning coffee to afternoon beers. Some monday's are a little crazier than others.
First topic at the table this morning with Collin Kaepernick and his decision to sit down during the anthem. By now everybody knows the story. And of course, everybody has their opinion. I have zero problem with freedom of speech or expression. Freedom is the foundation of what we have been fighting for from the outset in this country. But when you are messing with the national anthem, it is kind of like the flag. Pretty precious territory to be stepping on. I have not seen our nation so divided since the 60's. I was a kid but well recall the riots. That racial bigotry in the south. Martin Luther King, Jr and his crusade. The war in Vietnam raging on and people protesting outside the White House. In high school we had big decisions looming in our locker room. We had more to be concerned about other than friday nights opponent and our girl friends. The war was dragging on and some of us were willing to suck it up and go. Others decided a trip to canada was in order. My dad served in the naval air corps, my brother in the special services. My cousin Mike was killed in action in the Quang Nam province of Vietnam in december of 1969. I felt obligated. What I am saying is as I look around today it brings back a ton of memories. I honestly thought our country had made tremendous strides. I was wrong. The racial divide right now seems as huge as it has been in a long time. And that is sad. My friends this morning agreed. And I will point out for the record when I say my friends, both white and black. Thankfully we were blessed with folks who raised us to be color blind.
On the sports front as for the actual play on the field everyone is more than ready to get football going for real. Very interested to see the college games this weekend. Not your usual BS games, some legit marquee games on the slate. You never know what will happen. These teams have not had a preseason schedule to work out the knots. They will be going at it cold. There will be some surprises. I have a feeling Mizzou will look stronger saturday than most expect. I have attended a lot of practices and scrimmages. This team is no joke. Better than last year for sure. All will come down to the O line in my opinion. Lock looks very confident under center.
The Royals keep hanging tough. I would not count them out for a wild card yet. They get Davis back in the pen to go along with Herrera and the kid who came from nowhere Strahm and they will be a team nobody would want to draw in the post season. I saw one individual post in the forum the Royals had quit. I want some of what he is smoking.
That was pretty much it for today. All the stuff on the news seemed to irrelevant saturday when we buried out teammates 25 year old daughter. What Collin Kaepernick did seems of little concern to any of us present.
Good luck tonight with your action guys.
