Here's my thoughts on the rest of the night games, something we do just about daily, and in football as well - so if you're thinking about a football package - this is part of what we do. Anyhow:
The Pirates are playing themselves right out of contention lately, and McCutcheon is supposed to rest tonight. The Braves getting Kemp in and of itself isn't a big deal, but psychologically it may well boost them for a few weeks. I do not like Vogelsong (again, if he were THAT good) he'd still be on the Giants. If this were a home game for the Pirates I might be able to get behind him since he DID pitch there for several seasons, but not tonight - Braves or pass.
I keep waiting for Maeda to implode, and when I've bet on him he hasn't. He is quite capable of giving it up, however, and is feast or famine. He's faced Colorado twice this season, losing one, but that ONE was a 1-0 game - so he's more or less owned them. Chatwood and his ground ball rate are perfectly suited for Coors Field - and he's held the Dodgers in check for the most part, so I actually like the under here - and no clue on the side. The Dodgers bullpen hasn't been good at all lately, and the Rockies pen at home is what it is - not great.
In the Astros game it looks like it comes down to "who do you trust" - and as much as I dislike Happ he is far more consistent that Fiers. I really like the under better than a side, but Toronto or nothing IMO. Happ is exactly the type of pitcher that would give the Astros trouble. A crafty one that can pick at the corners, a la Cole Hamels.
I don't know a lot about Miranda for the Mariners, but I will before long. However, it's been my experience that Seattle hits LHP pretty well, and I've always felt that Pomeranz was a beneficiary of pitching in bigger parks - as many ex-Oakland pitchers (Gio, for example). Seattle's lineup has all at least seen him a couple of times, whereas Boston hasn't seen Miranda, AND the few pitches he has thrown in the bigs were at Seattle in early July - so, Seattle F5 til Boston gets their feet wet, IMO.
