Today marks one of the most bizarre nights in baseball history. And it had zero to do with anything that happened involving a single player. But it was enough to cause the White Sox to forfeit the second game of a double header against the Tigers. What happened? Well some of you might recall that era as the Disco era. People either loved or hated it, much like rap today actually. The White Sox had a Disco demolition night at the ball park and the fans went on full tilt. It was a baseball promotion that went completely and utterly off the rails. A crate filled with disco records was blown up on the field in between the games. The fans rushed the field and it was damaged by both the herd of crazed fans and the actual explosion itself. Like I said, enough so the second game of the doubleheader had to actually be cancelled. There have been some zany promotions in baseball history. Bill Veeck who owned the White Sox was a master. He once actually signed tiny Eddie Gaedel who stood only 3 feet 7 inches tall. He sent the little man up to bat as a pinch hitter wearing elf like shoes and the number 1/8 on his back. He walked on four pitches and then was lifted for a pinch hitter. Charlie Finley who owned the A's. while in Kansas City was gifted a Missouri mule by then governor Warren Hearnes and he made that mule the team mascot. He took that mule everywhere. He even had the mule, named Charlie O, flow on the teams road trips. He would ride Charlie through the streets of the other teams cities, even into the hotel lobby's. Where some nice places discovered the beast was not exactly housebroken. I think it is safe to say you just don't see that kind of imagination in today's owners.
Okay, a free play. I personally find the all star game tough to predict. But for those of you who want a betting interest in the game tonight I suggest the american league. It's raining here in mid missouri and frankly I hope it continues. It has been years since I have seen an all star game. I play softball on tuesday nights and miss it every damn time. Would not mind a rain out tonight and actually kicking back and watching the thing for once.
On the business side I have taken the time out and put it to use. I dove into college football for the opening weekend. Some stellar opening games out there. I have isolated and already loaded my college kick off Triple Star release. Hopefully it will be as easy a winner as the college kick off triple was last season with Notre Dame whipping the Texas Longhorns asses.
Hope everyone is taking advantage of the break to get reacquainted with their loved ones, lol. Have a great day guys and enjoy the game tonight.
