Today in sports history, as is often the case, brought back a great personal memory. It was on this date back in 1998, was that really 18 years ago, that the Rocket, Roger Clemens recorded his 3,000th career strikeout. What memory it touched on for me was july 17, 1974. It was on that date that my folks and I were at Busch stadium to watch the Cardinals play the Reds. Bob Gibson was going for his 3,000th strikeout. It was usually just my dad and I but mom happened to be along for that game. We had first row box seats along the first base line. It did not take Gibson long. In the second inning he fanned Cesar Geronimo for the milestone whiff. What was kind of cool was on the pitch just prior to the strike out Geronimo laced a foul ball right at my dad who snared it. Next pitch he got the K. So dad gave me the ball. Just a neat thing to look back on. Both mom and dad are gone now but those memories help keep them alive. We spent a lot of time coming and going to Busch stadium. I knew that place like the back of my hand.
Okay, into the present time. I have little confidence in Chris Young right now. He was a major piece to the puzzle last year with the Royals journey to the world series title but he is fooling nobody this season. Starting pitching is the problem for this Royals club. Young keeps getting trotted out there because there limited options. I say the Jays are the play here. I'd take them on the run line.
On the business side I cashed yesterday with my featured release on the Giants. It was a double star on them over the Rockies. I did not label the game a triple. From a business standpoint a stupid move, 4th of july is a huge sales day. Lot's of guys off work and looking to purchase selections. A Triple would have been the right move if that was my priority. But, as I have stated around here repeatedly I will not force a big release. Never have, never will. Not one. I do have one in play for tonight. Since the first day of may I have cashed in on 70% of my Triple Star releases. All time they are up 296 units. I've won on 136 more of them than not. As we head towards the all star break we are up a solid 25.23 units profit overall with the bases. 144-125 record. Anyway, a Triple does go tonight.
Hope everyone had a great safe holiday weekend. Let's cash some action tonight.
