Kind of cool to look back at the moments in sports history and see the name of someone you've met. No, not knew. But met and had a couple of beers with. It was on this date back in 1972 that Evil Knievel successfully jumped 35 cars. Problem was he broke 93 bones doing it. If there was ever another entertainer that worked harder for the buck than Knievel I don't know who it was. One time he was appearing in Kansas City and was a guest on the Mike Murphy radio program one afternoon. The studio at that time was in the Westport area of Kansas City and I was working down in Westport. After the show he went over to Kellys, a legendary old bar in the district. I was there with a buddy from work having a beer after hours and in he walked. We invited him to join us. He did and stayed for a couple before moving on. He was genuinely one of the nicest guys you could imagine. I remember asking him what was going through his mind just before attempting the snake river canyon attempt in that rocket they made for the stunt. He just looked at me and grinned and said the only thing going through his mind was Oh sh t, please don't let me splatter here national tv. Of course the whole jump fizzled and he almost drowned in the damn river. Some people will say he was crazy, I suppose maybe in a way he was. You have to be wired a little different to do those things. I ride a harley myself, but have no urges to jump over anything, lol.
Okay, a free winner. I am suggesting a play on Maryland this week against the Jayhawks. I expect a close game here. Fact is Maryland matches up well here. Right now you can get Maryland and 6.5 points. I strongly lean to Kansas to survive the game but expect it to be a close one. Another one of those, lol.
I have my one and only college march madness game of the year going this friday. Last year I had only the one and yes, it cashed with zero drama as Oregon handled Oklahoma State. I also released one NIT game of the year and yes, it won as well. Thing about these caliber of releases is too many people assume it is a lock. That is nuts. I have won far more of these releases than not over the years at Pregame but of course not all. Nobody does. If they win everyone is happy, if one goes down there are those who seem to melt down mentally. That will never change, it is what it is. Anyway, it is up and loaded. Cashed a rabid dog with the last featured release and had a nice sweep last night. Today is a new day.
Many thanks and best of luck to everyone tonight and on through the weekend.
