Had a free winner last time on here and will try and oblige again in a moment. Today marks a very special date for yours truly. It was on this date back in 1971 that I took my first bets on a sporting event. On march 8th, 1971 Joe Frazier defeated Muhammad Ali at Madison Square Garden in the biggest boxing match in history. It was Ali's first defeat and helped Frazier retain the heavyweight crown. The fight polarized the entire nation. The country was split down the middle between the two. If you ever have the opportunity to view the HBO special they produced on the fight I strongly encourage you to. The magnitude dwarfed that of this recent bout with Mayweather and Manny. Plus, I might add the actual fight itself was not even comparable to that mess in Vegas last saturday night. I was in the 8th grade in 71 and my shop teacher Mr Klocke was a avid sports fan, and a bettor. He used to let us watch ball games on his black and white TV he had in the shop. Back then all the World Series game were in the day and I recall watching the 71 Series between the Pirates and Orioles in shop class. It is safe to say he was a very, very popular teacher. Well as this mega fight approached all the kids in school were also torn down the middle. Although there was a strong shift to Ali as the fight day approached. Mr Klocke asked me who I thought would win, I said Frazier. He agreed and suggested I discreetly take some bets in the school cafeteria. I did. Most of the action came in on Ali and I cleaned up. Well, enough to buy a new bike, lol. The seed was firmly planted and I have been involved in sports wagering ever since. So Spartan got kick started by a shop teacher named Marion Klocke back in 1971 at Moberly Jr High.
Okay, a free winner. I say take the Bulls tonight to bounce back at home and claim a 2-1 series advantage. My clients and I cashed with the Cavaliers last time out out by I guess I am zagging tonight, lol. I do expect this thing to run the full seven fellas.
On the business side we had only one play yesterday but it was a solid double star winner on the Royals over the Indians. The night prior we swept with a double on the Braves and the NBA winner on Cleveland. I do have my largest play of this years NBA playoffs loaded for this saturday. I have had great success this years with the Game of the Year releases. I know there are many who crow that games of the year always lose. Well frankly that is an ignorant statement. The facts just don't begin to support it. What happens is the losses garner much more attention than the wins. It is as big a myth as locks. And I assure you this game is not a lock. But my clients who have wagered these games know I hit a helluva lot more than not. But I also keep it real, it is no lock so don't over bet the damn thing. A key player could go down in the opening moments changing the entire complexion of the game. Anyway, it is up and loaded.
One final note. If you are fortunate enough to still have your mom around be sure and do something special for her. I sure wish I could. I lost mine a few years back. She was a special woman. She was the first female real estate broker in my home town. She also went on to be the most dominant. She probably carried 70% of the listing in the entire region. She would have 35-50 listings at a time. Somehow with all her crazy hours she made it to most all my ball games growing up. And this was well before cell phones. Mom juggled career and family somehow. I loved her and miss her daily. So if you have the chance. Use it to make it a nice day for your mom. Someday you will wish you had that chance again. Trust me on this.
Okay, best of luck this weekend guys. Enjoy the games.
