Couple of items caught my eye today. It was on this date back in 1973 that **** Allen signed a contract with the White Sox for three years and $250,000. Funny how puny that contract seems now. Allen was a power hitter who spend a year with the Cardinals. He was a different cat that marched to his own drummer. I recall as a youngster being at Busch Stadium watching Allen in batting practice one game. I went to many games at Busch growing up and the longest balls I ever witnessed struck in BP or a game went to Allen, Nate Colbert of the Padres and Willie McCovey who all launched shots into the upper deck. Trust me, those were shots. A little known Cardinal named Mike Laga once belted one clean out of Busch that was narrowly foul during a game one night. Not sure that was ever done again. The other item was back in 1996 when the Chicago Bulls won 50 of their first 56 games. They reached number 50 on this date. Just think about that. That club was a machine.
Okay, a free winner. Not sure I ever thought I would lay this kind of points this season with the Detroit Pistons to anyone. But I am willing to do it tonight with the Pistons hosting the Knicks. To me this New York team is a total dumpster fire right now. I'd love to know what Phil Jackson is thinking these days. This team is a mess right now. I know some guys like trends to support any play so here you go if you hang your hat on trends, the favorite has covered the number in this series in 16 of the last 21 encounters. They're begging for Knicks action here but I say Detroit laying the 13.5 is still the right side. I see a blow out here at home tonight for the Pistons.
On the business side we cashed another featured release last night with Arizona dominating Colorado. A little surprised a Tad Boyle coached club is tanking like this. I respect Boyle but his club has the look of a team playing out the string. Arizona could have easily won that game by 30+ had they been inclined. Have cashed in now on 14 of the last 16 college releases. I am going to be looking extra hard at one game in college tomorrow. If the number is where I suspect it will be I will likely fire a Triple on it. Tonight I do have one featured release going. It is a double star in the league. Frankly nothing in the short college card appealed to me.
Okay, much work to get done. I want to wish everyone the best of luck this weekend. We're winding down the regular season in college hoops and the madness is just around the corner. I can't wait. The tourney is going to be anarchy this year. Take care fellas.
