Noticed an item from today's history page that seems relevant. We all have been there, or most of us, we have a game going down to the bitter end at crunch time and our guy needs to knock down a couple of free throws. Or at least for crying out loud put one in the hole. Then we watch in disgust and total disdain as he bricks two charity tosses and you end up losing your bet by a single point. And what is maddening is the seemingly total lack of form at the line. You wonder to yourself, who taught this knucklehead how to shoot a free throw. My nine year old grandson has better form. Free throws have been a pain in my ass for years. My wife and kids used to cringe when they would see a game I had going to the wire and I would need some guy to drain a free throw. They knew it was a hot button with me. Just talking about it here and I can feel my blood pressure rising. I think a lot of it is pure laziness. Kids don't see free throws much on ESPN sports center. Same reason to stand up 20 foot pure jump shooter is not as common. It's not a highlight type play and takes hours of dedication to practice. Over and over and over. Anyway, so what sparked this rant you ask? It was on this date back in 1989 that Kevin Johnson of the Suns finally ended an NBA free throw streak of 57 games. Helluva impressive streak. More appreciated now with all the brick layers we see in both college and pro ball. I can recall even back in high school not being able to hit the shower after practice before draining five straight. Oh well, got that out of my system.
Free play. Tonight I am going to the Big 12 and a huge game down in Waco between the Bears and Travis Fords visiting Cowboys. I expect a low scoring slug fest here and say play this one under the total which I am seeing at 125 across the board as I type this in.
On the business side I am off a miserable day in the NBA. I had a Double on the Spurs and they played flat as hell. Just barely showed up. I had the Rockets playing a Blazers team that had just had an overtime meltdown the night prior. Of course Houston didn't bring their A game and it showed. I had Atlanta and they were right there and crumbled at the end. I had Charlotte and they controlled most the game and then faded down the final moments like a Clydesdale trying to stretch for the tape at the Derby. One of those days. We all have them. I never really saw the logic of trying to avoid, or act like they didn't occur, hell anyone can see it. Just own it, learn from it what you can so the day is not a total train wreck and move on. Anyway, I do have a college game in play tonight that I have been anxiously awaiting. And yes, I am hitting it hard with a Triple Star. I am very confident we nail this baby but of course most know how I feel about that damn L word. No, that will never change. Shit happens guys.
Okay, a new week is upon us and we can see March Madness approaching faster and faster. Hard to believe. Good luck tonight guys.
