So much for any Austin Davis to Brett Favre comparison. The St. Louis Rams made the switch today back to veteran Shaun Hill as their starting quarterback, benching Davis.
Davis did share two things in common with Favre - he went to Southern Mississippi and he threw mind-boggling interceptions.
Kudos to Rams coach Jeff Fisher for not quitting on the season like another head coach who goes by the name of Ken Whisenhunt.
The Rams have the worst receivers in the league. Their offensive line is beat up and they have a below average ground attack. But Fisher has managed to keep the Rams viable through special teams trickery and improved defensive play.
St. Louis has managed to upset the Seahawks and 49ers during its last four games. The Rams' defense, particularly its front seven, is good enough to keep them in games if the offense can help out.
Hill is a journeyman, but he's one of the better backups. I like him better than Kyle Orton, Drew Stanton and Matt Cassel. He's a step above being just a game-manager.
The Rams aren't going to the playoffs. But they are a tougher out now. It wouldn't surprise me to see St. Louis finish 4-3 with games against the Raiders, Redskins, Cardinals and Giants still to be played. The Rams host the Raiders, Cards and Giants.
On the handicapping front, I have my Mid-American Conference Game of the Year going today. I am 8-4 on my college football Triple Star plays this season and 37-24-1 on my last 62 Triple Stars. Note, too, this is the final day to lock into my NBA/CBB Combo All-Access subscription at the lowest price ever. Also my 7 and 30-day packages are discounted 20 percent through Thursday. As always, no bad luck!
