We all know the pages on the calendar start flipping faster and faster as time passes for us and today serves as a prime example. It is hard for me to fathom but it was on this date FOURTEEN years ago that Texas running back Ricky Williams rushed for 150 yards in a 20-16 victory over Nebraska. It broke the Huskers 47 game home winning streak. Fifth largest in history for college football. 14 damn years, Wow! I can remember when Lincoln was basically a death march for teams. I was there in 1978 when Missouri went into there and blew up the Huskers title plans with a monster upset. I will never forget that weekend. I was in college and that was a road trip for the ages. Frankly I cannot even share all that happened on that trip but you get my drift. As for the game Mizzou was led by a young stud running back named James Wilder and a pretty good tight end named Kellen Winslow. You can still go to you tube and watch a clip of Wilder running over a Husker defender. Trust me, it's worth a watch. I was back in Lincoln a few years ago when Mizzou went back into Lincoln and won again this time with Chase Daniel and Jeremy Macklin leading the way. But, the fact is most trips up there did not have a good outcome for the black and gold. I am glad the Tigers are in the SEC now but we miss the rivalry games with both Nebraska and Kansas.
Okay, a free winner. Suggesting a small wager on the Navy as they host Notre Dame this weekend. No question here which team looks the strongest getting off the bus but as one coach said to me some years ago, playing Navy is a total pain in the ass. They are averaging a stellar 352 yards a game on the ground. They have a limited scheme but oh do they execute it well. Kind of reminds me of Lombardi's Packers and the much heralded power sweep. I recall when Mizzou squared off against the middies in a bowl game a few years back. They were much more athletic and frankly cocky as hell going into that bowl They scored on one of the first plays of the game on a bomb to Danario Alexander and thought it was going to be cake walk. Then the Navy club proceeded to run the ball straight up the Tigers asses all day long and whipped their butts. I expect the Irish to prevail here but the number is too high in my view. Reynolds runs that offense brilliantly. Could be similar to last season when Notre Dame required a late score to squeak out a 38-34 win. I think Navy plus the points is the right side here guys.
Okay, on the business side. We lost a ball breaker last night with our featured release on Louisville. No need to rehash. We all saw that melt down. The Cardinals had them by the short hairs and let it slip away. I plan on getting that cash back in short order and then some. I have my top college play for saturday up and loaded. I also have my NFL Triple star game of the week up. We cashed with Carolina last night but it was only a single. The NFL Triples have cashed to the tune of 80% over the last two seasons in 28 of 35 Triple Star releases. NO! It's not a lock. I would love to punch the dumb ass who coined that word for sports betting right in the jaw. It lures in naive sports bettors and wreaks havoc.
Much work to do and I am on it. guys. As always, best of luck and enjoy the games. Remember, those who make the decision to smarten up and use self discipline and money management are the ones still standing at the end and not the guys in the mens room at the sports book eating their tickets and crying in their beers. Take care.
