Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend. Your's truly has. Relaxing times at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. Good friends, hot barbeque, cold beers, some water skiing. Great time and one thing I will share with you guys. It was also a working weekend. Spent a lot of time working on the football and particularly the upcoming opening week in the NFL.
One moment in today's history moments stood out, a lot. It was on this date back in 1971 that Pirates manager, the late Danny Murtaugh gave his lineup card to the home plate umpire and it marked a long overdue first for major league baseball. It was the first starting lineup to feature all nine players being black. That was a great team and great year for the Buc's. They prevailed in an exciting world series against the powerful Baltimore Orioles. I remember watching every game of that series. Back then even on weekdays the games were played during the afternoon. At my Jr High school our shop teacher, Mr Klocke let us watch the game on a black and white set he had in the class room. 1971 is a special year for me, it was the first year I stuck my toe in the world of sports betting. It was the year of the first Ali and Frazier bout and I took bets on the fight. Anyway, growing up in mid missouri in the turbulent 60's the racial unrest was pretty much in your face. My town had it's own distinct lines. My parents were as much anti racism as anyone I ever met. My dad saw to it when I got my paper route as a little boy that it was right in the smack dab middle of the black section of town. He wanted a color blind son.
Okay, a free play. Today I am suggesting a small wager on the Twins and Orioles to play under the total of 8.
On the business side it was a profitable opening weekend of college football. I only had the one Triple Star and it won with Ole Miss taking care of business against Boise State. I simply don't toss those around too loosely. Does not do much for sales but when my clients see I have a Triple in play they know I am serious as hell about the game. I do have one particular game this weekend in the NFL in my sights as a potential Triple. Last season in the NFL I hit on a documented 83% of the Triple Star plays. I cashed on 20 out of 24 of the things. It is also my understanding that today is the last day of the discounted college/NFL discounted packages. If you are still on the fence I would say if inclined today is the day to do it. I know from past experience many will be coming on board this weekend and paying more than they had to. Just something to think about.
I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday. Good luck today as always. Back to work!
