There are a few threads talking about the use of leans or opinions. I've posted in one of them and thought it was a topic worthy of a Bryan's Diamonds thread.
I've used the word Lean or Opinion for years. The main reason is that I'm a very selective handicapper. Some will have more plays in a day than I will have for a week. I don't bet high profile TV games just because they are on TV. But I would get phone call after phone call asking my thoughts on those type of games. I get it, not all bettors are the same. My own brother in-law is an action junkie. He won't bet a game he can't watch. In order to let those type of clients know how I feel on a game I would offer an opinion or a lean. In the olden days before everyone received their plays by email or on the internet, customers had to use a service called a telephone. Talk to your parents about it, they can explain better. Anyway we would set up a number to call for paying customers to get the selections. By adding any high profile TV games as leans or opinions on that line, it saved us the time of having to answer the same question through our office. Saving time and the cost of the call for both the client as well as myself.
While I can understand that it can be a win/win for the service based on the outcome. Keep in mind, in many cases it's just giving the client what he is asking for.
