JEFF BONDS - CFB - PLAY OF THE WEEK

I'm under the impression that Ohio State will need to throw the ball and throw often to beat Michigan on Saturday.

I've found a prop bet at BoDog stating the following:

Troy Smith OVER 16 PASS COMPLETIONS (-130)

Smith was a running quarterback against Michigan in 2004 and completed 27 passes in 2005 against them.  This is a Heisman showcase game and Michigan holds opponents to 30 rushing yards per game.

What do you guys think?  I'm thinking this is money in the bank!

Jeff I'm definitely on it - 16 is extremely extremely low - I would expect the completions number to be in the twenties!  GOOD FIND!!!!  I'll be at the game sweating it

What a great find there jeff. I rarely check the props at bodog and you ar definetly on to something there. Troy 20 for 34 and 265 yards and 2 tds sounds right.

Mich run dee is tough and I see a possible steal here. I'll read up more before I invest though.

The problem is when they're up 30 at halftime they won't pass anymore Wink

Seriously, I think it is a great play

I don't think the Buckeyes would want to stop scoring on their rival, if that was the case on Saturday!

I hate to be the voice of caution on this play, but there are reasons why that total may be "low".

Here's my take, based on what I'm hearing from several trusted sources:

Michigan has a vert stout run defense. BUT

Ohio St. may try to employ a mis-diretion offense. To make it simple: They will probably attempt to stretch out the Wolverine defense by using Ginn in reverse scenarios, extending the toss to pittman, and allowing the Ohio St. QB to improvise, perhaps even scripting more QB centered running plays.

16 is a small number but look at what Troy did against the similar Longhorn defense:

    Ohio State Passing
      C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT
    Troy Smith 17/26 269 10.3 2 0
    Team 17/26 269 10.3 -- --

17 completions gets you the cover, but how stressful will that be? The Texas game was a blowout. If Michigan keeps this game close then you will get the cover with ease, but what if Ohio St. takes a 10 point lead early?

I think if you take the prop then you must be in favor of Michigan keeping this game close.

Personally: I picked Michigan to be a sleeper team for a national championship, but I'm seeing a stretched field and a confused Michigan front line.

    Like it.

The only way we lose this is if they have a few short passes turn into 87 yars tds.
