What is the best live concert you have ever seen?

I have apparently taken a lot of heat for seeing Coldplay last weekend, and combined with JD's blog regarding what you're listening to on you iPod it got me thinking, what is the best concert you have ever seen live?

I've seen The Killers a few times, and they definitely put on a great show.  But the most memorable shows for me have to be Billy Idol a couple years ago at The Joint in the Hard Rock Casino here in Las Vegas, Pearl Jam at Soldier Field back in 1995 and the Summer Sanitarium Tour with Metallica, Kid Rock, Korn, Powerman 5000 and System of a Down in 2000.  The Pearl Jam show was significant because that was the year they boycotted using Ticketmaster, and it was one of the few live shows they did all summer (plus they were in their prime and still rocked back then).  The Summer Sanitarium also has to rank as the best collection of groups I have ever seen.

I'm still waiting for my all-time favorite band Led Zeppelin to come back but realize that may never happen despite numerous rumors.  Seeing them at this point could also be as disappointing as a Madonna sex tape now, so maybe it's for the best that they stay retired for good.

Anyway, what is the best live concert you have ever seen?

I'll have to say Garth Brooks.  That guy put on one hell of a show.

Did you ever see him as Chris Gaines?

No, thank god.  I saw him about 5 or 6 times.  Just awesome.  The Police were good too.

Yeah I saw The Police last summer at the MGM Grand.  Another great show considering their age and how long it had been since they played together.

I think concerts are boring. I only enjoy watching sports on TV while sitting in my recliner. That's my only thrill in life. I'm a miserable loser. lol

The Stones about 10 years ago and McCartney and Wings in 76.

Yeah I saw the Stones during their Voodoo Lounge tour back in 2004 at the Carrier Dome.  The Spin Doctors opened for them, one of the worst bands of all-time.  Man, I hated them!

Believe it or not, Jon bon Jovi puts on one heck of a show.  Wasn't tops on my list to see, but I went with a big fan of his songs.  I saw him perform in Citizens Bank Park about 2 years ago, and he kept going, and going, and going, probably for about 3 hours.  I was very impressed

Tops for me include Pearl Jam at the House of Blues in Orlando, Dave Matthews Band at Fenway Park and Soldier Field, and my very first concert ever 24 years ago was Huey Lewis and the News at Poplar Creek Music Theater outside of Chicago (remember that place Matty?).

Sad note: I was also at the Alpine Valley concert in 1990 with Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton that ended up being Vaughn's final show as he died later that night in a helicopter crash.

This is a loaded question Matty. Are you asking for the best concert musically, or the concert that I had the most fun attending? I saw lots of shows in Austin while getting a degree at UT (most at the Backyard), but the best shows I saw were while I was living in Big Sky, Montana the summer before my senior year in college. They had this outdoor stage in the middle of a field, surrounded by mountians...just beautiful. I saw Taj Mahal and Leftover Salmon, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and Widespread Panic in a span of 3 months there.

Sitting 2nd row, center, at the AAC in August to see Tom Petty and Stevie Winwood, should be a blast.

Damn Floridachad, my first concert was Huey too.  1984 at the Forum in L.A.

I remember Poplar Creek Chad and surprisingly never saw a concert there.  I also remember the Stevie Ray Vaughn show - it happened during my junior year of high school.  Very sad.

I'm sure you went to the World Music Theatre as well.  I saw David Lee Roth, Cinderella and Extreme there for $10 LOL

I saw Springsteen the last show of the Born in the USA tour at themeadowlands. He quit at about 12;30 because the arena was making him stop. I know alot of people dont like him but he puts on a great show. Also saw Pink Floyd at Giant Stadium. I was wasted and drunk .the show was great. They had this giant pink pig that flew around the upper deck it was a riot. But the best show i saw was Rush at the Garden. They were great

I saw Winger open up for Kiss once. For those wondering, the right answer  to this question definitely isn't Winger.

I've seen a lot of great concerts in the last 10 years, but no one puts on a show like Billy Idol.  I too was at the show he put on at The Joint in 2005 and it was killer.  I will never understand how he doesn't get more recognition for his shows.  He's amazing!

Wow, where to start? Guns n Roses opening for Aerosmith in '88, U2 or Pink Floyd in the Carrier Dome in '87, Floyd again at the Dome in 94, There's so many to choose from. But my fav was Woodstock '99! Maybe it was because it was in my backyard, also maybe it was because I was working on the stage crew on the main stage. Checking out all the great bands while getting paid union rates! And I wasn't paying $4 a bottle of water! LOL

Billy Idol is coming back to The Joint on September 12th, so I may just have to see him again.  For those of you who haven't been to The Joint, it's probably the best venue to see a show in Vegas.  I also saw Korn there a couple years ago, and the acoustics in there are unbelievable.

Good idea Matt!  I hope to see you on September 12th.  To add on to this post, I saw George Michael last night at Madison Square Garden.  It was worth the 20 year wait!  But he still couldn't touch a Billy Idol show!
