What are you reading to get ready to make football picks this season?

As I mentioned on Thursday, Tommy Rider and I visited the world-famous Gamblers Book Shop here in Las Vegas on Wednesday to help get us ready to make football picks this season.  I personally picked up Phil Steele's ACC & Big East Football Preview because those are the two conferences I specialize in and will be making college football picks in this coming season.

For those of you who don't know him, Phil Steele is the best content provider for football betting information anywhere on the planet.  I would highly recommend reading anything he puts out, especially his weekly newsletter during the season.  Nobody does it better than him.

I also purchased the Underdog Theorem by Eddie Getz to help me with my NFL picks and will revisit this blog to provide my thoughts on this book when I find the time to give it a good read.  Following is a brief summary...

"Written for the sports gambler and non-sports gambler alike, this book presents specific, straightforward steps that can be used to predict events of every NFL season, explains how easy it is to repeat these steps year after year, and provides proof of the strategy's success by listing every pick of the past 15 seasons. Other gambling books tell you about a strategy knowing that the roll of the dice or the deal of the cards can never be repeated, which frees the authors from ever being proved wrong (or right). The author cites Miami's undefeated season of 1972 as the inspiration for his handicapping strategy."

Keep in mind you can also visit the Gamblers Book Shop simply by clicking here.  If you are planning a trip to Vegas before or during football season, it is definitely a must-visit destination.  I have never seen so many books on gambling, Vegas and the mob all in one place in my life and could have stayed there for hours if Tommy wasnt in such a rush to see the Golden Nugget Stick out tongue

So what are you reading to get you ready to make football picks this season?

Matty, I picked up a book on football trends, along with Sports Betting 101. I'm sorry, I just had to get that one. lol I have also already read Phil Steele, Lindy, Athlon, along with visiting College Football News daily. Plus. I get some handicapping sheets from around the country that I've gone over. Enough reading, I'm ready to roll.

CANNOT POSSIBLY DO ANY BETTER THAN PHIL STEELE!

MY FIRST AND MOST GLARING & ETERNAL MEMORY OF PHIL STEELE'S ACCURACY WAS 2001 PREVIEW, PAC-10 PREDICTIONS:

AS A BEAVER FAN, I REJOICED IN SI TABBING THE OREGON STATE AS THEIR PRESEASON #1 - MOST RAGS HAD BEAVS IN TOP 10, FOLLOWING THEIR 2000 SEASON, 11-1 RECORD, #4 NAT'L FINISH AND DISMANTLING OF ND IN THE JAN 1 2001 FIESTA BOWL, 41-9....MOST SKILL GUYS BACK, ECT.

STEELE DISECTED OREGON STATE'S TEAM WITH PRECISION - ESP. SCHEDULE, AND PROJECTED BEAVERS A 'BAFFLING' 7TH ...IN THE CONF,!  ALSO PREDICTED A 5-6 RECORD!

BEAVERS ACTUAL 2001 RECORD AND FINISH:  5-6, TIED FOR 6TH.

OPENING GAME IN FRES-NECK:  44-24 BULLDOG BEAT DOWN IN THE STEAM BATH WITH NO LOCKER ROOMS IN THE TREACHEROUS 'VALLEY' DOG POUND - MOST OUT-OF-CONTROL FOOTBALL CROWD I'VE EVER BEEN INVOLVED WITH....ABSOLUTLEY BANANAS.  BEAVERS GOT BEAT UP, DEMORALIZED AND HUMILIATED ON NAT'L, WEEKNIGHT ESPN  TV....& NEVER RECOVERED.

STEELE'S FUTURES SELECTIONS - ESP. THE O/U WINS FOR TEAMS ARE REMARKABLY ACCURATE...

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE PIGSKIN FLY...30 DAYS FROM TODAY!

Thanks for commenting Steve - I would have to agree with you 100%.  Phil Steele is the king of football betting content.  I also heard that his Pac-10 Preview has additional info on the Championship Subdivision teams like Appalachian State, which could be very helpful early in the season when they play the Bowl Subdivision teams.  Certainly would have helped last year before they played Michigan LOL

Steel----But I noticed he stopped printing ats trends for each team's schedule. Phil's free picks usually out-perform his paid picks. He gives a free pick each day during f-ball season.  had the number somewhere----

Phil's daily number to call during CFB season to get a FREE pick is (347) 677-1700.  The Free winner he gives out every Monday (Early Bird Play) hits at a 70% mark every year.  His paid picks sucked last year, but he dominated the Bowl season.  I think he was something like 26-6 ATS on Bowl games.
