The Making of a "Game of the Year" Play from a Pregame Pro

There has been a lot of talk around the Forums about how handicappers come up with Game of the Year plays, and we discussed this topic on a previous edition of the Sports Betting Preview Show thanks to a player693333's Question of the Week.

But in talking with GoodFella today, I realized some of you are so hungry for sports betting knowledge that you might like to know how a pro capper actually goes through the process of making a Game of the Year play.

Our special guest is a Pregame Pro who has revealed the following leading up to his Game of the Year college football pick on Saturday...

What factors do you consider when making such a big play?

I look at everything, from the injury report to key trends - both recent and historical - so I know how these teams have played against each other over the years and how they traditionally perform during this time of year.  I also look at motivational aspects.

For example, is one particular team playing with big-time revenge, or does a team need to win in order to become bowl eligible or put itself in position for the conference championship game?  The motivational angles must be thoroughly evaluated, and a great one will generally put a play over the top for me as far as becoming a GOY.

What's your take on the number of Game of the Year plays some guys put out?

I personally don't really have a problem with it because it's the capper himself who ultimately has to live up to the billing.  If a guy throws out tons of GOY plays and doesn't do well with them, people will know he's a joke and fade him.

The key to me is whether or not a guy is riding a hot streak.  It's all about confidence and how well he is seeing the board at that moment.  The games will just jump off the page (or screen) when you are looking at the lines, and you can't wait to get your money down on them.  This obviously translates directly to sports bettors as well regarding how you manage your bankroll.  If you're not feeling that confident, it's best to stay conservative and not "bet the house" on something you can't afford to lose.  That's why bettors trust us as handicappers, because we're doing the work for them.

How did you come up with your Game of the Year this week?

I don't want to get into too many details and give it away here, but it basically incorporated everything I talked about earlier, including a huge motivational factor.  There is one conference that I have really enjoyed success with this season, and I have developed an insider network that has provided me with some key information on this game that could be the difference.  At the same time, there are many other things I took into consideration when I selected this game, but this motivational angle made it a GOY.

Thanks buddy - this guy also told me that the value he is getting on a particular team in a certain situation comes first and foremost before anything else when it comes to building his card.  Basically, it all comes down to betting on your belief that the oddsmaker has made a big mistake with his number.
