Matty's Musings for 11/12/08: Jim Harbaugh heading to the Raiders?

So Dan Patrick was building up today's interview with Stanford football coach Jim Harbaugh all week and debating how to bring up whether or not he was interested in the head coaching job with the Oakland Raiders.  Poor Dan is stuck in an undisclosed location for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit model shoot, and this had to be his toughest assignment of the day and maybe the week.

I've been there as a reporter and lived in similar shoes where you want to get a scoop or story and try to creatively get it out of an individual.  In fact, I was known at Syracuse for being the go-to guy during sensitive times like when the women's basketball coach resigned and when the lacrosse team got put on probation because of my personable style of getting along with everybody.  I even told former Syracuse QB Marvin Graves once that I literally wasn't trying to be a pain in the ass but simply wanted to do a feature on him for the school newspaper, and he responded by giving me his phone number and inviting me over to his crib for the interview.

Anyway, this interview Patrick did with Harbaugh started by them discussing the big USC game and how he would handle it this year after his Cardinal pulled off the monster upset last year at the Coliseum.  That game ended the Trojans' 35-game home winning streak.  What followed was just pure comedy as Patrick asked Harbaugh about the Raiders, as I felt like I was listening to Sarah Palin talk about where she and John McCain stood on the issues during their campaign.

I'll let you listen to the rest, so you can judge for yourself how Jimbo really feels Stick out tongue

Jim Harbaugh should go there to play quarterback.  He would be an upgrade.

Patrick was almost laughing at the questions he "had to ask" Harbaugh........lol.......There is NO WAY he takes this gig after this year IMO...Stranger things have happened though.....

I told you it was good stuff.  He just didn't give up either.  I loved when he was trying to get Jim to just make a statement about having no interest in the Raiders job yet all he did was talk about how he loved Stanford and went off on that tangent.

You gotta love it when Harbaugh said this: "I am committed to the GREATNESS of Stanford football"......lol
