Pittsburgh Steelers for Sale

PITTSBURGH STEELERS FOR SALE!

Say it ain't so! The Steelers one of the most storied franchises in the NFL is secretly being shopped around to potential buyers. Art Rooney "The Gentle Giant" of the Sports World built the Steelers into one of the most successful sports franchises in the NFL. The club is valued at up to 1.2 Billion dollars. The Steelers have been in the Rooney family for over 75 years. Art Rooney was the founder and after his passing the eldest son picked up the reigns and followed the game plan that his father used to build the Steelers into the Winning Franchise they are. I am 46 years old and I've seen a grand total of 3 Head Coaches that's right I said 3. Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and second year Coach Mike Tomlin.

Yes the Steelers did it the old fashion way while some teams have had 3 coaches in 5 years the Steelers have had 3 in my life. The Steelers have always ranked as one of the top NFL merchandise sellers year in and year out. The Steelers are one of the best traveling teams in the NFL as you will see Black N Gold in the stands of every road game. You will find a Steeler Bar or Club in almost every major city when traveling if you want to catch the Steelers on TV and enjoy a cold one with fellow Steeler Fans.

So why would anyone want to sell such a successful franchise? Not all of the 5 sons of the late Art Rooney share the same passion as the eldest Rooney (Dan). The team isn't being shopped to the highest bidder but rather to the right fit as Dan Rooney still wants to be highly involved in the team.

One name that keeps surfacing to buy the Steelers is Stanley Druckenmiller the Billionaire Chairman of the Pittsburgh based "Duquesne Capital Management Co.".  Mr. Druckenmiller has publicly stated that he would want to retain Dan Rooney as a partner if he is able to buy the Steelers.

The Rooney brothers own 80% of the Steelers through Rooney Enterprises LLC which also owns Yonkers Raceway and Casino in Yonkers, New York. Art Rooney bought the Steelers for $2,500 back in 1933 not a bad investment for the Chief!

As a Pittsburgh native that bleeds Black N Gold lets hope the Steelers remain with a Rooney involved...

I'll buy the team as long as I can give two of those Super Bowl trophies to the Cowboys. lol Those Cowboys teams were so damn good but the Steelers were just a little bit better back then.

Always sad to see a great era come to an end. I'm happy to hear that Dan Rooney intends to still be involved.  I think his presence in the NFL is important and he has been a strong voice for the smaller market teams.

Why don't YOU, JD & RJ  PURCHASE the Team with all the MONEY you all have MADE from PREGAME? You COULD Hire Matty O'Shea to be the GM of Football Operations!

That's actually not true.  The Steelers are held by a S-corporation known as Pittsburgh Steelers Sports, Inc., or simply "PSSI."

The Yonkers raceway is held by a different corporation, with a different structure, and it's headed by a different brother.

The NFL bylaws on gambling and ownership have been on the books for 11 years, and they've never been enforced with the PSSI's ownership group (each brother holds 16 percent of the stock, with eight members of  McGInley branch of the family owning 20 percent).
