Who do you plan to vote for President?

by Johnny Detroit on 06/24/2008 8:27 AM

Last night I was playing 2-5 at a friend's house and the topic of politics came up. After reviewing the options in my brain (from Obama to Barr (the Libertarian) I finally concluded my decision: NO ONE. Yes, Johnny Detroit is skipping the whole Presidential Vote. Granted, I will go to the voting booth to voice my opinion on other areas, but I think I will sit out the whole Obama vs. McCain fiasco.

First on Obama. Unless the guy has a week to prepare and write some amazing speech (which he can do), not sure how anyone when looking beneath the surface can back this guy. You think Bush looks like a bozo? Anyone watch the PA debates? With off the wall questions and Clinton going for broke on her attacks, Obama looked like a deer in the head lights. Totally clueless on how to answer anything that was not something he was prepped for. He has almost zero substance and has no business being a potential leader of the world (which the US President essentially is).

Now McCain. Since I make my living at Pregame, he automatically gets an X on the bad side due to his stance on internet gambling. Second, McCain went from the Republican who questioned Bush and his cronies to a guy that seemed to drink the kool aid to cater to the powers that be to get their backing come election time. I have the utmost respect for him based on his service in Vietnam. But at the same time, it seems he realizes he needs to fall into line if he expects to have a the Republican machine behind him.

Obviously, a guy like Bob Barr, the Libertarian has zero shot. I was a Ron Paul fan due to the fact he wanted to bring the government back a few notches in terms of how out of control it became. Actually, he wanted to bring it back ALOT, but we all know that would have never happened. Somewhere in between now and the American Revolution would have have sufficed for me. I thought Ron was good for the race because it made alot of people follow politics and care about what is going on. Barr on the other hand does not have the same appeal as Paul. So, I might put in a protest vote and tag Barr, but outside of that, nothing more.

There are other choices, but they have less of a shot than Bob Barr does. People always say it is your duty to vote. Well, I disagree. I think it is MORE American if you abstain from voting for someone because you feel the choices are not real choices. If you put in the time to research the candidates and understand their stance on issues and walk away with a disgusted look, why should you vote just to vote? If you put a pile of shit in front of me and a mound of snot, should I be forced to eat one of the two? Or, should I demand you get something on the table I can eat. Sorry, Obama and McCain are shit and snot.

So who and why do you plan to vote for? Keep the childish stuff out please when replying.

My 1st Presidential vote was Gerald Ford back in 1976 (He Lost to the Peanut Farmer from Georgia! LOL) I VOTE in EVERY Election & I've VOTED Republican ALMOST EVERY Time. Barack Obama is no more QUALIFIED to be President than Matty O'Shea! I've got some issues with John McCain, but I'll be Voting for the Lesser of Two Evils.....just like 2000 & 2004. IMO McCain has the Better Resume.

McCain - Let Obama give us a 6 year term as a Senator and I might reconsider him next run.

I took McCain at +500 a while back. I'm sticking with my guns and will vote for him...

I am going to vote for McCain but I have little enthusiasm about it. Neither candidate inspires me and frankly both scare the crap out of me to some degree. These are scary times to have a leader in place that you don't have confidence in. The thought of Obama dealing with all the middle east issues just makes me shake my head guys.

Wow, Chucky - you're way off base there.  If you guys are seriously happy with the current state of the country and don't mind it getting worse, McCain is definitely the way to go.  I'm definitely not riding in that same boat with the rest of you and want to bring my kids into this world with a brighter future.

Yes I do.  Anybody who voted for Bush the last two terms made a big mistake in my opinion.  If you don't feel that way, please feel free to tell me differently.  But there's no way in hell I would ever vote for McCain, who sad to say could be worse than him.

Tell me your argument on how McCain will save the U.S. and explain to me everything Obama would do wrong to make America worse.  I'd love to hear it...

I'm looking for better leadership Chucky and somebody who will work with Congress to make things better.  Sorry if you think I'm shooting for the stars here, but it's that simple for me.  McCain is an idiot in my opinion, and I would never want to risk putting the country in worse shape than it is now.

McCain's NOT an Idiot. NO ONE wants this Country (except Al Qaeda) to be in worst shape than it is now!!!

You sound like many of the young Voters who Voted for Jimmy Carter back in 1976. They wanted Change, They wanted this? They wanted that? They voted Jimmy Carter in.........WORST President EVER!!!!!!!

Obama has not credentials or anything to be President. He made an amazing speech at the Democratic Convention a few years back and all of a sudden he is the savior of the country. Guy has no substance. Has he ever even held a job in the public sector? Or done anything outside of be a politcian who gives a great speech?

posted by Matty O'Shea on 06/24/2008 11:31 AM

I disagree - the guy who is in office right now will go down as the worst ever.  And I'm not willing to take the risk of an older, more senile guy replacing him.  Sorry Chucky, I'm not gonna argue this with you anymore.  I simply have more confidence that Obama will get us back on track with the help of a Democratic Congress.  He can't do it alone, and I'm not voting for a savior.  I'm voting for the better candidate, end of story.

posted by Matty O'Shea on 06/24/2008 11:35 AM

By the way JD - read Obama's bio on Wikipedia or do some more research without jumping to conclusions.  You and others might actually learn something about him.  Good move not voting though.  It's better not to vote than to vote in spite.

have not decided but leaning to Mccain....Obama talks about change , but IMO has not said how he is going to change things and also how he will do it, just says we need change....thats not enough IMO....give me some substance....of course he is the darling of the liberal media Democrat and black....I have no problem with a woman or minority if I feel they are the best choice.....Obama did not discredit the preacher until the press put pressure on.....he was ok with the guy for 20 yrs but all of sudden he had to distance himself(as he should) but should have done so long ago.....if I went to church and did not agree with the pastor I would not keep going for 20 years.

to many liberals think we need to change our ways so the world will like us....BS.....who changes for us?.....the terrorists will find a reason in thier demented minds to hate us no matter what we do.....we don't need to pacify them we need to obliterate them......I'm not speaking about all Arabs , just the ones who use Islam as reason to destory the USA....we cant let our guard down, if they can find a way to attack again u can be sure they will.....Obama says talk to the North Korean leader....Kim  Jong .....no way, just tell him the first time he sends a nuclear warhead toward US soil we will send every bomber we have loaded with warheads and NK will cease to exist when we are finished....You have to stand up to those who wish u harm and Obama and his liberal cronies dont have the guts to do it.

if you want conservative ways vote that way for Congress....President cant do much without the help of Congress......overall I don't think very highly of politicians anyway but thats our system so you have to make a choice or abstain which is also a choice.

You have to be rich to run for office so not many can enter the ring and thats why business as usual will continue in DC

what I would like to see,now and during any election is debates but not with some hand picked moderator.....town hall style...let people at random ask questions and the candidates can answer........they don't see the questions ahead of time......at least 3 min to answer.....so they can state position and how they would achieve the goal etc. and do this at leat 4 x....north  ,midwest ,south and west locations

Never had a job in the public sector?   His success has been gained by making inspiring speeches?   Sounds like a Kennedy.

I'll be voting for Obama.  And how can you compare him UNfavorably to Bush?   At least Obama can READ the speeches that are prepared for him.    And anyone who believes they chose the lesser of two evils  by voting Republican the last 2 elections is sadly mistaken.   What was evil about Gore?    Boring,  yes,   but not evil.   His wife is fucking nuts,  but that's irrelevant.    McCain should have gotten the republican nomination in 2000,  and he was shafted by the party.    In 2004,   Kerry was a terrible choice by the Democrats,  because they thought they could put anyone up and win easily.  They should have backed Wesley Clark then,  and we'd be in much better shape now.

While I think McCain would have been a good choice 8 years ago,  I can't back him today,  not because of his age,  but because he's bowing down to the Republican juggernaut,  and his position on the war.    The McCain that worked with Democrats in Congress to make the nation a stronger, better place is not the same McCain that is running for President in 2008.

I don't know what it will take for us to get GOOD candidates to choose from.   The parties protect their base,  but the problem is that the base is too far to the left or right,  or that's what they believe,  therefore what they back.   Wouldn't most of us prefer a more moderate candidate,  who sincerely wants to improve our situation?    Religion,  Abortion and Gun Control should not be issues.    Economy, Environment and Diplomacy should be issues.

On McCain and gambling he wants to ban any betting on college sports and also is against MMA. He has not voiced in on the overall online gambling debate really, but wanting to ban betting on college sports essentially is a non-gambling stance.

Agree mrfreeze we need more moderate choices  but each party wants credit for anything good that transpires and will do anything to snuff out another parties ideas even if they are good and better for the country as a whole. the dems dont want the repubs to get credit and vice versa. it does seem both parties are way left or way right but most Americans are middle of the road...u want some social programs to help people get on thier feet, fine but welfare turned into a free check  for generations(a way of life) and did nothing to help them better themselves, of course some people prefer a free ride and dont want to do anything even if they have to live in poverty...have couple friends who work on sect 8 houses (our tax dollars pay for thier house basically) and they trash it.  soem woman with 3 kids by 3 different men lives in it and has a boyfriend who sells drugs livin there on my tax $.

the sad thing is things are not going to change, term limits? who votes on it? our Congressmen and women and they r not going to let that happen..they will say they are for it but it never passes. we could lower our taxes if those Aholes in DC would quit wasting our money...It's not govt for the people bythe peolpe , its govt for business and lobbyists and to hell with joe blow in  Indiana trying to make a decnt living.

Wouldn't it be great if government only provided a few necessities,  and didn't have 90% bullshit?    Let them take care of transportation,   an adequate military  to protect us from any would-be attackers,  basic public schools, and a functional judicial system.   Sure,  there are several other things that government shouldh handle,   but billions of our dollars are being wasted,  not only on subsidies, foreign aid and "relief"  packages,  but on ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS.   How many people are employed by the US government?   Didn't it cost something like $42 million just to send notices to people that they would be receiving a stimulus check?   Now you might argue that the creation of jobs is a good thing,  but I say that a job for the sake of a job,  at the expense of the taxpayers, is NOT a good thing.     "Creating Jobs"  is a myth and a waste of money,  what needs to be done is to create the workers to fill the needs that already exist,  so they may contribute something of value to the world.     If you eliminate farm subsidies,  the price of milk,  corn, eggs, wheat, etc.  goes up,  (as it is anyway due to fuel costs)  but wouldn't those increases be offset by the amount of taxes that we are no longer paying for the subsidies?    One of the main problems of government is that we are paying for all this shit we don't need,  and in most cases, don't want.      I may be an idealist,  but I believe that a person should work for anything they get,  and they should be compensated according to their contribution.   If they work harder, more efficiently,  or provide some medical or technological breakthrough,  they should be rewarded appropriately.    If they are lazy,  do not work,  do poor quality work or are just plain inept,   their paycheck should reflect as much.        As long as you give people handouts,  there will be people lining up to accept them,  rather than doing what it takes to support themselves.

I got off on a bit of a tangent there,  but the point is that LESS government is BETTER government.

Chuck,

I am was a Republican until George's 2nd term. What you just said is not true. Bush and his current list of cronies have spent more on programs and pet projects than a liberal could in his/her greatest wet dream. Even Greenspan, who is an Ayn Rand follower, said the last good Republican President was Clinton.

The Republicans have not been about fiscal responsibility since Newt left.

CHUCK O'LUCK WROTE:

"Barack Obama is no more QUALIFIED to be President than Matty O'Shea! I've got some issues with John McCain, but I'll be Voting for the Lesser of Two Evils.....just like 2000 & 2004. IMO McCain has the Better Resume."

--------------------------------------------------------

Actually I was going to vote for the evil of two lessers, until Chuck convinced me otherwise right here in these Comments.  Here's the story of how I was born again thanks to an epiphany brought about by Chuck O'luck.

I agree that Barrack Obama is not qualified to be President.   No large corporation would hire him to be CEO because he lacks administrative experience.  So how could I ever hire him to be the President of the United States?

But then again, the same thing goes for John McCain.  He has never been anything but a politician., and no large corporation would hire him to be CEO based on his administrative experience either.

Both candidates have made some incredibly stupid decisions.

O'bama failed to renounce and repudiate his moronic pastor, Rev. Wrong, for almost a week.

McCain. however, has failed to renounce and repudiate President Wimpy and his failed policies at all.

O'bama may have not spoken up before but he now declares that he he disagrees with Rev. Wrong's statements and policies.

McCain used to speak up against Bush's failed policies, but he now declares that he fully agrees and will continue all those actions and policies.

Obama has proven how pussified he is by letting that dumbbell he married shoot her mouth off.  If he gets to be President he'll have to find a way  to muzzle that dopey bitch before her mouth gets the country in more trouble that it's in already.  I'm not sure he can do that.  If Obama gets elected, we will likely have to listen to the mouths and watch the war dances of Rev. Wright and Michelle Obama endlessly for four years.  If he loses, they will thankfully go back to being nobody.

McCain has proven for the past 8 years that he doesn't have a clue.  To say McCain is not anti-gsambling and anti sports betting is wishful thinking and simply wrong.  How could I ever vote for guy who,  while the country was at war, while terrorists blew up buildings, while the economy was going down the drain, while the dollar was dwindling, while Bush was spending the country into oblivion and while unregulated financial institutions were creating a disaster in housing and the mortgage market, joined bis buddy Sen Kyle in treating regulation of internet gambling as the most important issue facing the American public today.  If that doesn't indicate a lack of understanding of America's problems, I don't know what does.  Taking a page from Nero's book, McCain spent the majority of his Senatorial efforts fiddling with the wording of the numerous versions of his anti-gambling bill while the World Trade Center burned.

Then again, maybe that's not so bad.  After all, he could have spent his time holding hearings on whether baseball pitchers and WWF Wrestlers take steroids.

Perhaps somebody can name a bill that McCain repeatedly sought to push through Congress as many times as he kept trying to push through his anti-gambling bill along with Sen Kyle.  It was a bill that sought to make all of us federal criminals for placing a bet.

Is that what Republicans stand for now -- paternalistic Government control of the individual?

O'bama introduced legislation to end extreme Global Poverty.  That would be accomplished by spending an additional $825 B in foreign aid.  Personally, I think someone ought to be spending $825 B here in the U.S. of A to end extreme U. S. Poverty and even mild U.S. Poverty, or maybe just to increase unemployment benefits, or shore up social security so it can continue for those under 30,  or even just put  a dent in the humongous deficit that Pres Bushleague has turned the Clinton surplus into, all long before we start ending poverty elsewhere.

McCain, however, advocates destroying the American economy even further than Bush and thereby creating MORE American Poverty by sending $825 Trillion overseas to support our absurd foray into Iraq forever.

I too used to like Ron Paul.  That is before he appeared on Meet The Press and could not intelligently answer a single question posed to him by Tim Russert.   Paul was all full of platitudes and rhetoric about what he intended to do, but  couldn't answer a single question about how he would accomplish any of it.

I really wanted the guy to have some plan for implementing his great-sounding proposals.  He had none.  My heart sank.. I couldn't stand the thought of yet another stupid President.

When it was over Ron Paul had made Georgie Dubya look like Albert Einstein in comparison.

So there I was, trying to figure out the evil of two lessers when thanks to Chuck I had my epiphany and was born again..

Chuck opened the commentary here by declaring that Barrack Obama was no more qualified to be President than Matty O'Shea. The thought struck me like a lightening bolt! -- Why isn't Matty O'Shea qualified?  No fundamental reason I could think of.

What exactly was that analogy all about?  Was Chuck trying to clue us in from left field that just like Matty O'Shea, O'bama WAS qualified?   After all, O'Luck, O'Bama and O'Shea are all Irish.  Maybe this was some sort of reverse Irish tradition, like saying "Break a leg" in theater culture.  Irishmen would certainly want to stick together, I reasoned.

I couldn't imagine a good Irishman named O'Luck favoring some some Scotsman named McCain over another Irishman named O'Bama..

So obviously O'Luck wanted us to vote for his o'brother O'Bama.  It was the new Story of O (Has anybody here read the old Story of O?  Ladies first please.)

I still couldn't see my way clear to voting for O'Bama though.   But then I said to myself:

Self, what  a brilliant idea that O'Luck guy has.  Why not vote for Matty O'Shea for President?

Matty is young, good-looking, obviously intelligent, well-written and well-spoken, and unlike most of the people who posted commentaries here, and most Americans for that matter, Matty has demonstrated the ability to actually do some research and fact-finding about that which he speaks, rather than simply spouting rumor off the top of his head or nonsense that he pulled out of his ass.  It doesn't matter what side he is on, what matters is that he has an intelligent and well-researched opinion.

I respected Bill Buckley's very intelligent and reasoned opinions on the conservative side, and I respect Al Gore's very intelligent and reasoned opinions on the liberal side. The point is the knowledge, intelligence and reason demonstrated in the arguments.  Either man would run the country well, despite the difference in political ideals.

The problem with George Bush isn't that he's Republican.  The problem with George Bush is that he's stupid and a failure.  The man ran two oil companies, both funded by the Saudis.  Both companies went belly up.  So what did many of you posting here do?  You voted for him to run the country.  What happened?  The country is now ranked only 9th in te world in standard of living, and is on the verge of being belly up.  What a surprise.  Could you have known in advance?  Of course you could have.  The politics don't matter.  Gore was intelligent, Bush was a moron.  Gore was successful. Bush was serial failure.  Which one would you want to manage your investments?  That's the guy you should have voted for as President.

Gore would have been dealing with a Republican Congress, so not much would have been different, except perhaps heeding the warnings before 9/11. not sitting dumbfounded for 7 minutes when told the country was under attack, and maybe finding Osama Bin Laden instead of spending TRILLIONS (yes, Trillions) of dollars on killing Saddam Hussein because "he tried to assassinate my daddy.."

Does anyone else think that just maybe the pass we've been giving Osama has something to do with Dubya's close personal and financial ties to the Bin Laden family in Saudi Arabia?  Okay, I know, that's just paranoid conspiracy theory.  The real reason that Bush hasn't been able to catch Bin Laden for 7 years is not that Wimpy has been giving Osama a pass,  but rather that Bin Laden is simply  much smarter than Bush.  Criminals on the lamb take note.

Some of you, like Stew, still don't even understand what's wrong.  Stew writes:

"I certainly wouldn't vote for a terrorist and a muslim, so I'm going with McCain. Also, Bush has done a good a job as anyone would have done in his spot.

Really Stew?  I've been wondering who those 1 out of 5 people who think Bush is doing a fine job might be.  Now I've finally found one.  I guess you think that the fact that the stock market is in the tank, the economy in a recession and the housing market is in a depression has nothing to do with Bush's policies on bank and lender regulation.  Maybe you believe that the weakness in the dollar has nothing to do with the huge deficits the man has created.  Perhaps you believe that the fact that the world has changed from sympathy and support in our fight against Al Queda to hatred for our actions in the world has nothing to do with Bush's foreign policy mistakes.  Maybe you believe that the reason Osama Bin Laden is still thumbing his nose at us 7 years after he attacked this country has nothing to do with how your President allocated our military resources.  If you do, then I suggest you invest your life savings in any Wmpy post-presidential venture.  I'm sure George's excellent judgment will keep that investment safe and earning for you well into the future -- or maybe not.

Of course, Stew, if you just happen to think, like 80% of your fellow Americans, that Georgie, Jr  just maybe didn't do the

very best job possible, then by definition somebody else could have done a better job.

By the way, Stew, Obama's religion is no more Muslim than his heritage is Irish.  I made the reference to his being Irish above,  just to show, in a humorous way, how silly incorrect statements of fact based on misinterpretation of a name can sound.. Obama never was Muslim.   I would have thought that, if nothing else, the Rev. Wright fiasco would have corrected those thoughts.  How exactly do you reconcile the fact that Obama was a member of Rev Wright's church for 20 years with your statement that he is   muslim?  He didn't convert either, as another poster intimated.

The name Barack Obama is African -- not Irish and not Muslim.  Obama's father was a black man from Kenya and his mother was a white Methodist from Kansas.  His father's name was Barrack Obama and Barrack Obama used to be junior until he father died.  Barrack Obama's mother and father separated when he was a baby.  When Barrack, Jr. was just 2 his parents divorced and his father returned to Kenya.  Barrack Jr never saw his father again.  .  Barrack, Jr.  was raised by his white Methodist mother.  He is highly unlikely to be someone who discriminates against whites since his mother and all the relatives he knew on his mother's side were white.  He never even saw his black relatives until 1988 when he was 27 years old.

But I am not here to discuss Barack Obama or his Obamamama (sorry I couldn't resist -- the devil made me do it).   I'm here to discuss the person I am going to suggest that we all seek to get on the ballot, and if not to write in, and that is,. Chuck O'Luck's candidate for President, none other than MATTY O'SHEA!.

Let's look at Matty's qualifications.

Matty O'Shea has demonstrated the ability to express himself clearly and cogently, and to engage in reasoned debate without lapsing into name-calling.

Matty may not have any administrative experience, but his lack is no greater than that of the other two candidates.

Matty seems confident that he has the bigger dick and doesn't seem to need to prove it by threatening the world.  Speaking of dicks, most important of all, unlike Pres Wimpy and Sen John "No Gambling" McCain, Matty knows when to pull out (perhaps as a result of his many years of practice using the rhythm method.)  Matty may or may not have any rhythm (we all know white guys got no rhythm) but it is obvious Matty has learned to pull out like a pro.

As an example of Matty's proficiency at pulling out,  Matty  refused to get get into a dick waving contest in this Commentary thread, and pulled out of it at the exactly perfect point.  That bodes well for his ability to be smart enough to stop the dick waving and pull out of Iraq with equally perfect timing.

Matty is, I believe, too young to be President under the current Constitution, but that's no problem.  If we are willing to consider amending the Constitution so we make a President out of some Austrian body builder with Nazi ties who modeled for gay porn publications and whose answer to being accused of tittie grabbing females as he passed them was, "I don't remember molesting her but it sounds like something I'd do," then we can certainly change the required Presidential age for clean-cut Matty O'Shea, who has never even met a Nazi and always asks permission before grabbing tittie.

I pretty much agree with Rob,  except for the part about the rest of us being idiots,  I resent that.

The most important point,  in my opinion,  is Bush's stupidity.   What you may not know, and may or may not surprise you,  is that it was exactly that stupidity that won the election for him.   Why did the Republicans nominate him?  Name Recognition?  Yes,  but that's not all.   Because they thought they could control him.  After all, he is pretty much like a ventriloquist's doll..  only those dolls sound a lot smarter when they talk.      Now,  why did the public vote for him?      He got the redneck vote,  because they felt he was "One of us".    Stupid people resent and distrust anyone with above average intelligence,  and that trait worked in Bush's favor.      Also,   the religious vote was a huge factor,  and while this statement will certainly offend many people here,   that too goes back to the "stupid people".   You see,  the God Fearing churchgoers were convinced by their churches, who were in turn convinced by the "Christian Leadership",  that  Democrats are evil  baby-killers.    They used the Abortion issue  as they seem to always do during election time,  though it's really not an issue at all and nothing ever changes with it after the election,   and it was the religious vote that won the last election for Bush.    It seems they are okay with killing adults (including U.S. military personnel)  in the middle east,  but it's absolutely unthinkable for a woman to terminate a pregnancy,  no matter what the circumstances may be.

I did not vote for Bush in 2000 or 2004,  because I knew a thing or two about his past,  and his total lack of qualification to do ANY job,   much less lead what had been  the most powerful country in the world.

Matty,  if you need a running mate,   I'll make myself available.

Aw, stop resenting.  I love you.  I didn't say "the rest of you are idiots."  Here's what I said:

". . .unlike MOST of the people who posted commentaries here, and MOST Americans for that matter, Matty has demonstrated the ability to actually do some research and fact-finding about that which he speaks, rather than simply spouting rumor off the top of his head or nonsense that he pulled out of his ass."

Disagree?  Look at the posts here again.

I didn't say all of you, I said "most."  Also I didn't say anybody was an idiot, I merely said they did not demonstrate the ability to do research and fact-finding while Matty did.

As for most Americans, its amazing the country isn't much worse off as a result of the of the lack of knowledge and reasoned judgment that the majority of voters exhibit.

This week a survey indicated that the majority of US voters, when asked by multiple choice to pick the head of the Federal Reserve Bank, chose Alan Greenspan.  When asked to identify Ben Bernanke,  the majority said they never heard of him.  The value of their houses are dropping, the level of foreclosures is huge, credit has dried up, interest rates have dropped, and with all those things directly affecting them, the majority in the US voters read newspapers with stories about the lack of panties on starlets and don't have a clue about anything else.   The National Enquirer has the largest readership of any newsprint publication in the country.   Ask the the average American the name of the last baby to be born as a result of space alien sex with a housewife, or whether Lindsay Lohan has a shaved puss,  and they'll be able to tell you right off the top of their heads.  Unless of course they are under the age of 25, in which case they have ceased reading at all, but can name every Avatar in their favorite virtual world.  With any luck that crew will stick to their virtual voting booths and cast Linden votes only

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like to masturbate when they close that voting booth curtain just as much as the next guy, but at least I know the names and some facts about the candidates before I shoot all over them.

Anyway, anybody who thinks I was talking about them by using the word "most", I probably was, and anyone who thinks I couldn't have been including them in the word "most", I probably wasn't.

Let me revise my statement to make it more accurate:

It should now read:

". . . unlike most of the posters here, except MrFreeze, Matty O'Shea and anyone who knows I couldn't have been talking about them . . . .  "

So, MrFreeze, stop resenting and start running.  i've made up some new bumper stickers.  Get your orders in before they run out.   Buy the whole set.  They are sure to become collector's items.  Note your choices below:

Great stuff Rob. The only thing is McCain HAS spouted off against Dubya. The problem I have is that he has backed down from doing so once he realized that to win he needed the Republican Powers That Be behind him. Prior to this, that is the reason people like Coulter, etc could not stand him. To his credit McCain was the moderate Republican who did not bow down to Emperor George. THUS WE HAVE IN THE WANING YEARS OF BUSH II's administration:

1. Oil prices up over 500%

2. Housing prices down 20-50%

3. Total lack of oversight by the Feds and rating agencies that allowed the financial people to slip sub prime turds into AAA products

4. Debasing of the dollar to an all time low

5. A preemptive war based on lies with no regard to paying for it and giving billions of dollars to war profiteering companies. (Did you know that Samuel Bush, Geoge II greatgrandfather) in the spring of 1918, became chief of the Ordnance, Small Arms, and Ammunition Section, with national responsibility for government assistance to and relations with munitions companies)

6. Crashing of the financial markets

7. Doubling the national debt to 9 trillion dollars from 4.5 in 2000

8 Soaring commodity prices

9 Looming stagflation

10. Destroying US prestige and credibility around the world.

11. Total support for Israel's interests without regard to the costs of our contry in blood or treasure.

12. No comprehensive energy policy in 7 years and cut backs on tax credits for alternative fuel sources. Thus maintaining dependence on oil for as long as possible.

JD hit it on the head. McCain has been outspoken about how he believes there shouldn't be gambling on college sports. That scares the hell out of me. Why? Because neither guy is going to do anything earth shattering. I'm listening to all you argue like it matters who gets to sleep in the White House. However, while no diseases will be cured, the national debt will continue to grow and we'll keep sticking our noses in to other country's problems regardless of who is President, McCain is strongly against gambling on college athletics. And that's a fight he can take on and win. I'm sorry but I just don't care to take that chance. Other than that, I could care less which figure head is in the White House while this lazy, power hungry country continues to decline. Call me when Jessie Ventura runs. lol

Even though I am no fan of Bush, the issue in the housing market started under Clinton. His repealling of Glass-Steagall allowed the banks to have open season on people. Second (even though the intention was good), many of his efforts to increase home ownership backfired. Sure it put people into homes, but also homes they could not afford. Things like allowing people to tap into a 401k without penalty for a downpayment to buy a home they probably should not be in anyway. That is a great idea. Dump your retirement into a home you do not have the money saved for. So now you have no retirement as they forclose on your house.

McCain was recently asked about online gambling:

When asked about sports betting and Internet gaming, and whether any Nevada Republicans or gaming industry representatives had approached him about those issues:

"The issue of college betting is not going anywhere. ... The sports betting thing, that was over years ago," he added. "I've faced reality. It's just like with immigration reform. Americans want a secure border."

On Internet gaming, McCain was just off his game. First he tried to back away from his position because he hasn't been involved in it lately. Then he said it was really fellow Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl's deal.

Then he tried to find a Nevada-friendly stance. "The economy is what's hurting the gaming industry in Las Vegas today," McCain said. "It isn't sports betting or Internet gaming."

Yes, but if the gaming industry could make money online, it could help the bottom line when tourists balk at spending thousands to fly here or hundreds to drive here.

"Let me get back to you on it," he said. "I haven't thought about the issue."

He did say he had concerns about Internet gaming originating in foreign countries. Of course, this happens because of U.S. policy and restrictions, but never mind.

McCain also spoke about oversight and making sure the kiddies don't have access.

"I'll call you back," he added.

Matty, Carter is close. Also, many if the middle US-era Presidents were pretty bad.

Not to turn this into a 9-11 debate, but the Clinton response to Bin Laden was a few cruise missiles fired into the Sudan.

posted by Matty O'Shea on 07/03/2008 7:51 AM

Honestly, presidents are judged historically years after their runs are over, so that's easy for you to say now.  The fact that W is already in this conversation says it all.  I'm not debating 911 either, just stating a fact.  For Chucky to use the argument that there were no more terrorist attacks on U.S. soil is ridiculous.

posted by Johnny Detroit on 07/03/2008 7:56 AM

I do not have a problem with what Chucky said. From the TSA to hitting Afghanistan (the correct invasion, unlike Iraq), you have to say we have been clear of it since 9-11.

In reading Greenspan's book you realize the potential disaster that could have happened with just one day of the US economy being stopped. The government under Bush responded on both fronts. The quick and successful (initially) invasion of Afghanistan and the economy not really missing a beat despite the potential to do so.

Trust me, Bush is easily one of the worst presidents in the last 100 years. But since 9-11, outside of Iraq, his decision have kept us pretty safe.

Just out of curiosity, when IS the "last time [you] CHECKED," and which places did you check, and what methodology have you been using?

The 4th of July stands for revolution against the tyranny of government, and the overthrow of local government officials by force that lead to the establishment of the rebel government known as the Second Continental Congress, which declared that it was taking over by further force, if necessary.  The 4th of July stands not just for change but for revolutionary change through total rebellion.

It is not about a Pentagon-coined "arc of instability" from the Middle East to Central Asia.

It doesn't really matter who wins, so I agree with JD that a NO vote is the way to go. I followed these campaigns all my life. Nothing has changed nor will it ever really change, as long as the business of  America is being the #1 developer, manufacturer of arms, munitions, and supplier to the world. Too many people are making too much money on the transfer of these weapons that results in the needless suffering, and misery of many other people. There is no end in sight to this tragedy, and tyranny, as long as war remains viable, and to the utmost very profitable.

McCain scares me, and reminds me of the Manchurian Candidate. Obama is better suited to be a comedian, or a clown in the circus when one considers all the gaffes he has made. Neither one can slow down the war machine, or ever be able to even stop it. And we are dreaming expecting this from these two. Looming on the horizon much like the rising sun will be the next concoction for war, and tests of the latest weapons on the field of battle, and the excuses for developing even more. Not to mention, the need for even more soldiers, and the increasing supply lines for them. That is the way it has been, is now, and shall be again. And that is a Lock.

Once again, It doesn't really matter who wins, because the outcome shouldn't alter our lives very much, if at all. Why waste the time voting? Until either Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, or a better option declare, and decide to run, I am NO voting.

Just saw this last night...

John McCains so-called "perfect" record with veterans has been roundly criticized by prominent veterans groups: He received a grade of D from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and a 20 percent vote rating from the Disabled Veterans of America; Vietnam Veterans of America noted McCain had "voted against us" in 15 "key votes."

As for the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars - with whom McCain claims to have a "perfect voting record" - both groups vigorously supported Sen. Jim Webbs (D-VA) GI Bill that McCain tirelessly opposed.

What do you guys say about that?

He kept the welfare checks to Israel at under $100 billion in his eight years as president.

He provided the Israeli government with billions so that they can provide all the rich Jews in Israel with universal health care while only 50,000,000 American taxpayers are without health care.

He blocked Social Security payments to the greedy elderly Americans by refusing the repeal the WEP and GOP.

He gave only $1 Trillion in tax cuts to the super rich at the expense of a huge deficits for the average American middle class.

It is not about "Islamofascism".

It is not about a Pentagon-coined "arc of instability" from the Middle East to Central Asia.

New evidence shows once again both George W Bush administration wars - in Afghanistan and Iraq - above all are about oil and gas.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) will formally introduce another article of impeachment against President Bush Tuesday as House leaders indicate they're willing to convene a hearing to consider the Ohio Democrat's arguments.

"Our Constitution is being destroyed. We are losing our nation to a war based on lies. I am determined to get this bill to committee for a hearing," he said.

"The President has conducted the affairs of the nation in a manner which cries out for justice and it is the Constitutional obligation of Congress to check his wanton abuses of U.S. and international law. We have troops whose lives were put on the line because the President told them Iraq was a threat to the United States and it was not. The loss of lives of our troops and of innocent Iraqi civilians is a direct result of the lies this president told to Congress. He must be held accountable."

BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a CHANGE! The chicken wanted CHANGE!

JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.

HILLARY CLINTON: When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure -- right from Day One! -- that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me.......

DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'THIS' side of the road before it goes after the problem on the 'OTHER SIDE' of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his 'CURRENT' problems before adding 'NEW' problems.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road...

ANDERSON COOPER - CNN: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.

NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he's GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.

DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain. Alone.

GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.

BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2007, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your check book. Internet Explorer is an integral part of the Chicken. This new platform is much more stable and will never cra...#@&&^(C% .........reboot.

ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken?

AL GORE: I invented the chicken!

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?

AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white? We need some black chickens.

JOE BEATTY: We don't care why the chicken crossed the road but buy our monitoring products and we can alert you not only when the chicken crosses the road but when, where and how fast they did it.

House Speaker Pelosi calls Bush 'a total failure'

posted by did u hear on 07/17/2008 7:16 PM

WASHINGTON -- Rep. John Conyers announced Thursday he will hold Judiciary Committee hearings next week on the "imperial" Bush presidency -- a step the Detroit Democrat's allies on the political left quickly trumpeted as "impeachment begins."

Conyers, however, was careful in his news releases not to use the word "impeachment," which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House leaders have repeatedly said is off the table.

Instead, Conyers said the hearing next Friday will look at "credible allegations of serious misconduct" by Bush administration officials and "what many would describe as a radical view" of power.

"As chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I believe it is imperative that we pursue a comprehensive review commensurate to this constitutionally dangerous combination of circumstances. Next Friday's hearings will be an important part of that ongoing effort," Conyers said.

The White House did not return a call about the hearing. But Pelosi's spokeman said she supports Conyers.

"The speaker supports this hearing and appreciates Chairman Conyers' strong leadership to ensure proper oversight and accountability," said Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, who was a Democratic presidential candidate, has introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush, largely around his handling of the Iraq war. On June 11, the U.S. House voted 251-166 to send Kucinich's bill to Conyers' committee in what was seen as way to kill it.

But Democracy.com -- one of several left-wing activist groups pushing for Bush's impeachment -- sent out an email before Conyers' announcement Thursday titled, "Impeachment begins July 25." The group, which did not respond to an interview request, urged impeachment supporters to attend the hearing.

"This is not yet a true impeachment hearing," the group wrote in a widely distributed email. "but it is our opportunity to push for one, and it represents a tremendous victory...."

Conyers has already held numerous hearings looking into whether Bush has overstepped his constitutional powers, leading two veteran political analysts to conclude that the hearings essentially will be a sideshow to appease the powerful left wing of the Democratic Party, which through the Internet has become a formidable mobilizing and fund-raising force.

Michael Franc, a political analyst at the Heritage Foundation, said the Internet-based left of the Democratic Party "can't be dismissed as the crazy uncle in the attic. They are a powerful force in Democratic politics."

But Franc said the Democratic left "tends to criminalize differences of opinion on policy, vision and the use of power." As a result, Franc said, Conyers' hearing -- part of a larger, continuing spotlight on the Bush White House -- could backfire if a Democrat is elected president.

David Bositis, a political analyst at the Joint Center for Economic and Political Studies, said "actual impeachment hearings could make voters sympathize with Bush at the very time his record-low poll ratings make him useful to Democrats in the upcoming high-stakes presidential and congressional elections.

"Bush serves a great use, because the Democrats are going to wrap George Bush around every Republican in the country," Bositis said. "Why risk a good thing?"

If the Republicans were intelligent (and no one is accusing them of being intelligent), they'd, too, do everything they could to get America off of oil, and single-handedly eliminate half of their political opposition.

Oil is the main culprit which Democrats blame for Global Warming.

Oil  is the real motivation, according to Democrats, behind the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Oil, and the high price of gas, is the number one reason why Democrats believe our economy is tanking.

If the GOP could just wean themselves off of the black sauce, the Democratic Party, as a viable political alternative, would practically disappear overnight...

...but never fear, my fellow Democrats - the GOP will NEVER take any truly bold steps anywhere away from Exxon's lobbyists.

They're too fucking greedy.

Paulson Braces Public for Tough TimesAPposted: 2 HOURS 52 MINUTES AGOcomments: 397PrintSharefiled under: Earnings, InvestingText SizeAAAWASHINGTON (July 20) - Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson sought to reassure an anxious public Sunday that the banking system is sound, while also bracing people for more troubled times ahead.

"I think it's going to be months that we're working our way through this period  clearly months," he said.

CBS / AP

Paulson said the number of troubled banks will increase as they struggle to cope with big losses on bad mortgages. The government this month took over IndyMac after a run led it to become the largest regulated thrift to fail.

"Of course the list is going to grow longer given the stresses we have in the marketplace, given the housing correction. But again, it's a safe banking system, a sound banking system. Our regulators are on top of it. This is a very manageable situation," he said in broadcast interviews.

Paulson used appearances on the Sunday talk shows to tell people that deposits up to $100,000 are fully insured. He said no one has lost a single penny on an insured deposit in the 75 years that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation has operated.

"We're going through a challenging time with our economy. This is a tough time. The three big issues we're facing right now are, first, the housing correction which is at the heart of the slowdown; secondly, turmoil of the capital markets; and thirdly, the high oil prices, which are going to prolong the slowdown," he said.

"But remember, our economy has got very strong long-term fundamentals, solid fundamentals. And you know, your policy-makers here, regulators, we're being very vigilant."

Paulson said he hoped Congress soon would approve his plan to help shore up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored mortgage companies

"I'm very optimistic that we're going to get what we need from Congress here, because Congress understands how important these institutions are," Paulson said.

The House plans to vote Wednesday on a housing bill that is expected to include a rescue for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The companies' shares have plummeted because of fears about their financial stability. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are private, but they were created by Congress to encourage homeownership by buying mortgages from banks. The two hold or guarantee more than $5 trillion in home loans  almost half of the nation's total.

"Our first priority today is the stability of the capital markets, the stability of the system. And these institutions have investors all around the world ... and those investors need to know that we in the United States of America understand the importance of these institutions to our capital markets and to our economy and to our housing market," he added.

Paulson acknowledged the U.S. is continuing to lose jobs, though he said the $168 billion economic relief plan approved this year has created jobs that would not otherwise exist. The plan included tax rebates for people and tax breaks for businesses.

Democratic leaders, including presidential candidate Barack Obama, are pushing for a second, smaller, economic installment. Paulson said he did not want to speculate about that idea.

"I'm focused on this stimulus package. It's made a difference in the second quarter. It's going to make a difference in the third quarter. We need to watch this very carefully," he said.

"Right now we're going through a tough period. There is no doubt about it. But the stimulus plan is making a difference," he said.

The second-ranking House Republican, Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri, said he was "open-minded" about a follow-up aid plan. "If they bring things to the table they know the president's not going to do, that has very little to do with stimulating the economy. It's all about a political discussion between now and the election," he said.

Paulson appeared on "Face the Nation" on CBS and "Late Edition" on CNN. Blunt was on CNN.

This is it - the final election to decide which Senate candidate we as a community want to direct our energy, enthusiasm, and dollars towards.

I am proud to announce that the two Senate challengers who received the most votes in round one are ... Al Franken and Tom Udall!

Now, it's up to you to vote in the final round, and decide which one of these two outstanding candidates gets to send two emails to the GiveEmHellHarry.com list, helping him build the resources needed to win this fall and reach our 60 Senator filibuster-proof majority.

Click here to vote in the final voting round, before the July 28th deadline!

As a Member of Congress and Attorney General of New Mexico, Tom Udall has earned a reputation as a principled leader who has the integrity to do what is right for New Mexico. In the House, Tom has established himself as a leader on key issues - writing and passing a bill to establish a national renewable energy standard, voting against the Iraq War, working to expand preventive health care, attempting to increase well-deserved benefits for veterans, and acting as a champion of small businesses owners.

You might know Al Franken as an award-winning comedian and author. You might know him as the host of Air America Radio's "The Al Franken Show," the network's flagship program that helped put progressive talk radio on the map. But, here's what's most important for you to know: Al Franken stands by his principles and leads by his values. As the founder of Midwest Values Political Action Committee, he raised over $1.1 million for Democrats across Minnesota and around the country. Now he is putting all of his energy into being elected to the United States Senate, and representing the progressive values of all Minnesotans.

Click here to vote in the final voting round, before the July 28th deadline!

I can't wait to see which Senate challenger you choose to help us reach our 60 Senator filibuster-proof majority. But, whoever you choose, this much is true: together, we will finish what we started in 2006 and deliver a mandate for change in 2008 that Republicans can't lay a finger on.

Thanks for all you do,

Harry Reid

Dear MoveOn member,

This Tuesday, the media did it again: CBS watched McCain say things about Iraq that were clearly, factually wrongand they let it slide.

But this time, they took it one step further. CBS covered up McCain's mistakes by editing his statements out of the videoin violation of their own standards.1

Ironically, John McCain is now saying the media are too soft on Barack Obama. But if Obama showed himself to be as uninformed on his top issue as McCain did on Iraq, the media would have a field day. In fact, this is just the latest of many times the media ignored McCain's mis-statements, flip-flops, and extreme positions. It has to stop.

Can you watch this video showing CBS's coverup, and sign a message demanding that CBS correct the record on the air? When you sign, you can also join our new 2008 Media Accountability Team. Click hereand then please forward this email to others:

Here's what happened on Tuesday:

Barack Obama's been making the case that much of the progress in Iraq isn't related to the "surge"including the so-called "Anbar Awakening" where Sunnis in the Anbar province turned on Al Qaeda. In a taped interview, Katie Couric asked McCain about it. McCain insisted that the Anbar Awakening was caused by the "surge" and even dismissively said "that's just a matter of history."

Here's the thing: the Anbar Awakening happened in 2006, months before the troop escalation was ever announced.

And this CBS incident is just the tip of the iceberg. Throughout this campaign, the media have given McCain a free pass. Here are some things that would be big national stories if the media were doing its job:

McCain recently called Social Security a "disgrace" and blatantly lied about his past support for privatizing Social Security.2

At least six times, McCain has talked about his policy toward Czechoslovakiaa country that hasn't existed for over 15 years.3

McCain consistently makes foreign policy mistakeshe talked about the "Iraq-Pakistan border" when they don't share a border and confused "Somalia" with "Sudan."4

At least four times, McCain said Iran is helping Al Qaeda in Iraqbut Iran is Shiite and Al Qaeda is Sunni. They are fighting each other! McCain's campaign admitted the mistake and then McCain did it again!5

That's why we're forming a new 2008 Media Accountability Team today.

We'll monitor the media, push back on reporters and media outlets that go soft on McCain, and even do some paid advertising highlighting examples of bad journalism. Our first step is to hold CBS accountable for their cover-up.

If we do that, other media will get the hint that it's not okay to cover up for McCain's lack of understanding about foreign policy and his extreme positions on the issues. Click here to watch the video and help us hold the media accountable:

Sen. Jack Reed says America can't afford the Republican strategy of continuing to write blank checks for the Iraq war.

"At a time when the war in Iraq costs $10 billion each month, Americans are paying $4 a gallon for gasoline, and our economy is struggling, we cannot continue down the path that President Bush and Senator McCain propose: writing blank check after blank check," Reed, a Rhode Island Democrat, said Saturday in his party's weekly radio address.

Reed said Democrats have outlined a better plan to carefully redeploy combat troops out of Iraq and give them missions such as counterterrorism and training Iraq's military.

"Make no mistake: This is a plan that seizes on the progress and sacrifices our troops have made in Iraq, and it recognizes the desire of the Iraqi people to take control of their own destiny," he said.

Reed and Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska accompanied presumed Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama on a six-day trip to Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan and Kuwait that ended this week.

Obama says he will pursue a 16-month timetable for withdrawing combat troops if he is elected. That idea won conditional support on Monday from Iraqi leaders during talks in Baghdad.

"Our proposal to responsibly redeploy American troops out of Iraq will send a message to the Iraqi government that it must do more," Reed said. "And it will encourage more progress toward Iraqi self-sufficiency."

A West Point graduate and former Army Ranger, Reed emerged as one of his party's leading anti-war voices after he voted against authorizing the war. Reed, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, is a potential vice presidential pick for Obama.

"Some of the soldiers and Marines we met in the field are on their third and fourth tours of duty," Reed said. "And they deserve a policy that is worthy of their sacrifice."

100 days from today, we can end the Congressional careers of every single Republican who stands ready to help John McCain continue the Bush-Cheney policies for another four years.

In honor of our critical 100-day milestone, today we're launching our 100 Days Mobilize for Change: National Day of Action. This is the first step to contact 13 million voters in more than 50 key districts.

We're so close to surpassing our $3 million goal to support our mobilization efforts. Put us over the top before midnight tonight and win a chance to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Support the DCCC's National Day of Action Fund with a gift of $15, $25, or more before Midnight Tonight and be automatically entered to win tickets to the Democratic National Convention.

Voter contact is the name of the game in the final 100 days. Our ability to put "boots on the ground" to reach voters directly was a big reason why we already won three straight special elections this year, turning solidly red districts to blue.

Now, we need your help to set a new standard when it comes to voter contact. With only 100 days left to do it, we need to reach millions of voters with our message of change.

Support the DCCC's National Day of Action Fund with a gift of $15, $25, or more before Midnight Tonight and be automatically entered to win tickets to the Democratic National Convention.

Just as our 100-day deadline expires at midnight tonight, another critical deadline looms on the horizon. In just 5 days we'll hit the all-important July 31st FEC deadline.

July 31st marks the last FEC deadline before Barack Obama officially becomes our nominee and the last chance to make sure we charge into the Democratic National Convention with a surge of momentum.

Help us today - there's only 100 days left.

Rahm Emanuel

Democratic Caucus Chair

P.S. Midnight tonight marks the end of one critical deadline and just five more days until another. Help us blow past the July 31st FEC deadline with a surge of momentum. The White House has increased its estimate for next year's deficit to nearly $490 billion, a record figure that will saddle the next president with deepening budget problems in his first year in office, a report due out Monday shows.

The projected deficit for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1 is being driven higher by the continuing economic slowdown and larger-than-anticipated costs of the two-year, $168 billion fiscal stimulus package passed by Congress, said two senior administration officials with direct knowledge of the report. In February, President Bush predicted the 2009 deficit would be $407 billion.

The budget update shows this year's deficit headed under $400 billion, at least $10 billion less than projected, according to the two officials. That's partly because tax revenue held up reasonably well despite the weaker economy.

The rising deficit for 2009 marks a sharp turnaround for Bush's fiscal legacy. He inherited a $128 billion surplus when he came into office in 2001. It soon turned to red ink because of a recession, the Sept. 11 attacks and the war on terrorism.

Curbing the deficit will fall to Bush's successor and the next Congress following a time when taxes were cut and major spending initiatives were undertaken, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, transportation projects, farm subsidies, Medicare prescription drug coverage and a recently passed expansion of veterans' education benefits.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: George W Bush | Congress | White House | Afghanistan | Social Security | Iraq | Medicare | Medicaid | Republican John McCain | Democrat Barack Obama | Senate Budget Committee | Sen. Judd Gregg | Jim Nussle | Tax Policy Center

The actual 2009 deficit could climb still higher because the new projection does not reflect full funding for the wars. In addition, a worsening economy could add to the red ink by reducing tax revenue and increasing safety-net payments, such as jobless benefits and food stamps.

Both presidential candidates have proposed tax cuts that could further swell the deficit. The non-partisan Tax Policy Center estimates that Republican John McCain's cuts would cost $4.2 trillion and Democrat Barack Obama's $2.8 trillion over 10 years. Neither candidate has specified major spending cuts he would make to reduce the deficit.

"The picture's looking pretty dark out there," said Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee. He credited Bush's tax cuts with creating six years of economic growth but "on the spending side, their record is not good."

White House budget director Jim Nussle said that despite the surplus Bush started with, he faced a deficit in defense, intelligence and homeland security that had to be bolstered after 9/11.

"This is not just a mathematical exercise," he said in an interview with USA TODAY. Nussle said an economic recovery and a renewed effort by Congress to control spending could rein in the deficit.

Bush proposed in recent years to slow the growth of spending in programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Those efforts were ignored by Congress  most recently last week, when the House voted to sidestep a provision of the 2003 Medicare prescription drug law that would have required lower Medicare spending.

The biggest budget deficit recorded to date was $413 billion in 2004. In today's dollars, that would be about $478 billion. As a share of the economy, the 2009 deficit would be 3% to 4%, below the post-World War II record of 6% set in 1983.

Standing before a room of oil company executives in June, John McCain flip-flopped and declared support for coastal oil drilling. Now the Washington Post is reporting that, within days, oil and gas execs ponied up nearly $1 million to elect McCain.1 It's another piece of evidence that in a McCain White House, oil companies will call the shotsjust as they have with President Bush.

Yesterday, MoveOn members jumped into action in response to the Post story, placing "For Sale" signs on McCain headquarters in 10 battleground states to call public attention to it.2 At the same time, McCain made our point for us, holding a photo-op yesterday in front of a California oil well and renewing his push for offshore drilling.3

McCain's hoping to use gas prices as a wedge issue to win the election. That's why it's so critical that we keep spreading the message that McCain's been heavily influenced by the oil companiesand so we can't count on him to solve the energy crisis. When people think of Bush, they think "oil," but that's not true of McCain yeteven though his energy policy is almost identical to Bush's and his campaign is literally run by oil lobbyists!4

Here's a video that makes the case, from our friends at Progressive Accountability. Please check it out, then forward it to a few friends, post it on a blog, or stick it on your Facebook page.

The energy crisis is shaping up to be a decisive issue in the election. MoveOn's ongoing campaign on the energy crisis has two goals: 1) highlight the progressive solutiona huge plan to shift our economy to clean energy, prevent climate change, and create millions of jobs, and 2) work together to block McCain and the Republicans from pushing gimmicks like drilling to win votes.

Please forward this email to your friends and family to spread the word about John McCain's ties to big oil companies.

Trump: There's Too Much Oil

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 12:25 PM

Article Font Size

Real estate mogul Donald Trump says there is way too much oil in the world to justify the current high market prices.

"Frankly, I hear there are tankers all over the world that are loaded up to the gills with oil," he told CNBC.

"They have so much oil they don't know what to do with it. It's ridiculous what's going on with OPEC and all of that."

Trump blames major oil producing countries for the current recession and accuses large oil companies of "doing a major number" on everyone.

Trump lauds the recent dips in the price of oil, and he predicts that oil prices should drop a lot more. The overabundance of oil and the increasingly high prices are affecting the economy, he says

According to Trump, the price of oil should be no more than $50 or $60 or perhaps even lower.

The price recently dropped to below $121, the lowest it's been since May. The record was over $147.

"Oil is what is killing the world's economy," he says.

"There's a vast oversupply in the world. It's all over the place, and they don't know what to do with it."

Across Capitol Hill, Democratic-led committees are considering punishments for past and present Bush administration officials for a range of alleged misdeeds, from discriminating against liberals at the Justice Department to blowing off subpoenas and lying to Congress.

The proceedings on Wednesday are the latest congressional review of the White House, a constitutionally mandated power that majority Democrats relish. But three months out from Election Day, a lame-duck Congress conducting oversight of a lame-duck White House produces mostly talk. There's little time and less willingness to spend the remaining five weeks of the congressional session doing more than holding televised hearings to try to convince voters that President Bush has abused the powers of his office.

The allegations certainly are serious.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday was to hear from Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine, who reported this week that former department officials broke the law by letting Bush administration politics dictate the hiring of prosecutors, immigration judges and other career government lawyers. The probe springs from Justice's firings of nine federal prosecutors that sparked congressional investigations last year and led to the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

House and Senate Democrats said the findings affirmed their contention that career Justice employees were hired and fired based on whether they were deemed sufficiently conservative, a violation of law. House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said he was considering bringing criminal charges against some of the former officials named in Fine's report who may have lied to his committee. Lying to Congress is a crime, but there's little agreement among Democrats on whether a perjury referral against some of the officials is warranted.

Everyone has questions. Sen. Arlen Specter, the committee's ranking Republican, said in an interview that he was seeking more details from Fine.

"He says that federal law was violated as to a number of people. That's a very serious charge," the Pennsylvania Republican said. "I would want to know the details on the facts which led the inspector general to these conclusions."

On the House side, meanwhile, a subcommittee of Conyers' panel is considering citing former presidential adviser Karl Rove with contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena that compelled his attendance at a July 10 session. Democrats on the panel want to hear his testimony about the extent to which the politicization of the Justice Department was directed by the White House. Bush declared that information off limits under executive privilege.

If approved by the House subcommittee, the contempt citation against Rove would move to the full House. It was unclear whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi would allow a vote on it. Earlier this year, the House approved contempt citations against two Bush confidants  White House counsel Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers  who likewise refused to comply with their subpoenas. The House then filed suit against the two, which is still pending in federal court.

McCain has repeatedly and strongly argued against timelines. He even went so far as to say that those who want a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq want to wave the white flag of "surrender," or that setting a timeline would mean the terrorists will win.5

McCain thinks Americans won't mind a long-term occupation of Iraq. McCain famously and repeatedly said that he doesn't think Americans mind if we occupy Iraq for decadesmaybe even 100 years.6

This is just more political pandering from McCain. For the last five years, McCain's strategy has been the same: Promise that "victory" is around the corner and advocate to keep our troops in Iraq for a while longer. He has no proposal for how to bring our troops home, he only has plans to occupy Iraq.7

Americans want out of Iraq. The recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll is clear: 60% of the country wants a timeline to bring our troops home. Voters have to understand that McCain won't deliver that. It's important to cut past his spin and examine his record: He wants us to stay in Iraq indefinitelyagainst the will of the Iraqi government and the American people.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A 73-year-old retired surgeon marching in silence with a tombstone picturing a soldier killed in Iraq. A philosophy professor calling for a new investigation into the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. A long-haul trucker from Texas protesting the price of oil.

Those are just a few of the images that demonstrators hope will capture the attention of delegates, journalists and others attending the Republican National Convention. Tens of thousands _ from anarchists and immigrants to advocates for the poor _ plan to use the streets outside the Xcel Center as a national podium, transforming downtown St. Paul into a marketplace of ideas.

"There are some groups that are going to be here just because this is a big stage," said Chuck Samuelson, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota. "But I think the majority of groups are here because they really want to demonstrate to the delegates that they want to see some sort of changes in the party platform."

Protesters and police expect the opening day of next month's four-day convention to be the biggest _ with a huge anti-war march.

"The Bush agenda has really angered all different groups," said Meredith Aby, a member of the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War.

President Bush, whose approval rating was just 28 percent in a recent Associated Press-Ipsos poll, is scheduled to speak that night.

both candidates will continue destroying this country.  mccain is admittedly clueless on the economy.  mccain is absolutely wrong on the war on terror.  they hate us because we've been over there occupying their holy lands.  understanding your enemy is WAR101.  mccain was wrong on bush tax cuts, mccain-kennedy, mccain-feingold.  i don't care what he SAYS he supports now that he is runnning for president.  i look at the man's record.  he is more liberal than bush.

obama is a socialist that would be perfect for some lowly european country.  he would certainly raise taxes.  when you raise taxes on the rich, you are in effect cutting middle class and lower class jobs.  this is the last thing this country needs.  again, i look at the man's voting record.  he has the same vote as mccain on the iraq war every time he has voted.  he has voted to continue the war every single time.  the man talks change, but won't say what changes he will bring.  the man is all talk and no substance.

ron paul was the best hope this country has seen definately in my lifetime.  he would have worked to get rid of IRS, federal reserve, closed most of our emperial miltary bases that cost us over 1 trillion dollars a year to maintain.  he would have CERTAINLY balanced the budget and worked on our national debt.  this year we will spend over 500 BILLION dollars on the interest on our national debt.  that is half a trillion dollars.  you could finance 3 years of the iraq war with that kind of money and this is just the INTEREST on our national debt.  the INTEREST is the 4th highest expenditure in our budget.  only behind social security, medicare/medicaid, and defense.

ron paul wouldn't have elminated programs so much as ENTIRE DEPARTMENTS such as dept of education, labor, energy, homeland security.

department of education spends 10k per child in the public school system. compare this to the average private school k-12 tuition of only $7500.  send education back to the states where it has a better chance of accountability.

department of homeland security is a monster of a department.  we were spending 40 billion in intelligence prior to 9/11.  we had 14 warnings from other countries in the summer prior to 9/11.  the august 6, 2001 PDB(presidential daily briefing), entitled "bin laden determined to strike inside US".  inside this PDB it stated, bin laden planned to hijack aircraft and fly into buildings and government landmarks.

we had plenty of intelligence gathering before 9/11 to stop it.  they chose not to for whatever reason.  bureaucracy was the problem then and we simply made it worse with this monster of an intelligence bureaucracy.  until they secure our borders, i will never believe this government is serious about securing this country.   this is why the war on terror is as bogus as the war on drugs.

Warren Buffett will participate in a live Omaha "town hall" event to be seen in hundreds of movie theaters across the nation, following the screening of a documentary movie that argues the U.S. is going broke.

Its backers, notably Pete Peterson's foundation, hope the film I.O.U.S.A. (tag line: "One Nation.  Under Stress.  In Debt.") will focus public opinion on America's federal budget deficits and national debt the way Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth energized the "green" movement.

Buffett also appears as a "talking head" in the film itself.

According to a news release about the live event, I.O.U.S.A "presents a vivid, alarming profile of America's current financial status" by telling "the story of America's four key deficits - budget, savings, balance of payments and leadership."  It also promises to offer "suggestions for how best to recreate a fiscally sound nation for future generations."

The film, directed by Patrick Creadon, was shown at the Sundance Film Festival this year.  It opens Friday, August 22 in 10 big cities around the country.  The night before, it will be shown in several hundred theaters, followed immediately by an HD telecast of a panel discussion featuring Buffett and including Peterson; the CEO of his foundation and former U.S. Comptroller General, Dave Walker; CATO's William Niskanen; and the AARP's Bill Novelli.

While Buffett is the headliner of the after-film event and appears in the movie itself, he has complained much more vocally about the U.S. current account deficit than its budget deficits.  He blames the continued weakness in the U.S. dollar on the "force-feeding" of $2 billion a day to the rest of

A new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.

Suskind writes in The Way of the World, to be published Tuesday, that the alleged forgery  adamantly denied by the White House  was designed to portray a false link between Husseins regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war.

The author also claims that the Bush administration had information from a top Iraqi intelligence official that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq  intelligence they received in plenty of time to stop an invasion.

The letters existence has been reported before, and it had been written about as if it were genuine. It was passed in Baghdad to a reporter for The (London) Sunday Telegraph who wrote about it on the front page of Dec. 14, 2003, under the headline, Terrorist behind September 11 strike was trained by Saddam.

The Telegraph story by Con Coughlin (which, coincidentally, ran the day Hussein was captured in his spider hole) was touted in the U.S. media by supporters of the war, and he was interviewed on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"Over the next few days, the Habbush letter continued to be featured prominently in the United States and across the globe," Suskind writes. "Fox's Bill O'Reilly trumpeted the story Sunday night on 'The O'Reilly Factor,' talking breathlessly about details of the story and exhorting, 'Now, if this is true, that blows the lid off al QaedaSaddam.'"

According to Suskind, the administration had been in contact with the director of the Iraqi intelligence service in the last years of Husseins regime, Tahir Jalil Habbush al-Tikriti.

The White House had concocted a fake letter from Habbush to Saddam, backdated to July 1, 2001, Suskind writes. It said that 9/11 ringleader Mohammad Atta had actually trained for his mission in Iraq  thus showing, finally, that there was an operational link between Saddam and al Qaeda, something the Vice Presidents Office had been pressing CIA to prove since 9/11 as a justification to invade Iraq. There is no link.

The White House flatly denied Suskinds account. Tony Fratto, deputy White House press secretary, told Politico: The allegation that the White House directed anyone to forge a document from Habbush to Saddam is just absurd.

The White House plans to push back hard. Fratto added: "Ron Suskind makes a living from gutter journalism. He is about selling books and making wild allegations that no one can verify, including the numerous bipartisan commissions that have reported on pre-war intelligence."

Before The Way of the World: A Story of Truth and Hope in an Age of Extremism, Suskind wrote two New York Times bestsellers critical of the Bush administration  The Price of Loyalty (2004), which featured extensive comments by former Treasury Secretary Paul ONeill, and The One Percent Doctrine (2006).

Suskind writes in his new book that the order to create the letter was written on creamy White House stationery. The book suggests that the letter was subsequently created by the CIA and delivered to Iraq, but does not say how.

The author claims that such an operation, part of false pretenses for war, would apparently constitute illegal White House use of the CIA to influence a domestic audience, an arguably impeachable offense.

Suskind writes that the White House had ignored the Iraq intelligence chiefs accurate disclosure that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq  intelligence they received in plenty of time to stop an invasion.

They secretly resettled him in Jordan, paid him $5 million  which one could argue was hush money  and then used his captive status to help deceive the world about one of the eras most crushing truths: that America had gone to war under false pretenses, the book says.

Suskind writes that the forgery operation created by the White House and passed to the CIA seems inconsistent with a statute saying the CIA may not conduct covert operations intended to influence United States political processes, public opinion, policies or media.

It is not the sort of offense, such as assault or burglary, that carries specific penalties, for example, a fine or jail time, Suskind writes. It is much broader than that. It pertains to the White Houses knowingly misusing an arm of government, the sort of thing generally taken up in impeachment proceedings.

Habbush is still listed as wanted on a State Department website designed to help combat international terrorism, with the notation: Up to $1 Million Reward.

Suskind is scheduled to discuss the books findings  and his assertion that the country has diminished moral authority -- in a pair of interviews by NBCs Meredith Vieira on the Today show at 7:10 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Beery placing so much on its secret ledger, Suskind writes in his final chapter, the administration profoundly altered basic democratic ideals of accountability and informed consent.

The book (HarperCollins, $27.95) was not supposed to be publicly available until Tuesday, but Politico purchased a copy Monday night at a Washington bookstore.

Suskind, an engaging and confident Washingtonian, writes that the book was one tough project. He won the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, where he worked from 1993 to 2000.

The White House said Suskind received no formal cooperation. He writes in the acknowledgments section at the end of the book: It should be noted that the intelligence sources who are quoted in this book in no way disclosed any classified information. None crossed the line.

Among the 415-page books other highlights:

--John Maguire, one of two men who oversaw the CIAs Iraq Operations Group, was frustrated by what Suskind describes as the tendency of the White House to ignore advice it didnt want to hear  advice that contradicted its willed certainty, political judgments, or rigid message strategies.

And Suskind writes that the administration did not want to hear the word insurgency.

--In the first days of his presidency, Bush rejected advice from the CIA to wiretap Russian President Vladimir Putin in February 2001 in Vienna, where he was staying in a hotel where the CIA had a listening device planted in the wall of the presidential suite, in need only of a battery change. The CIA said that if the surveillance were discovered, Putins respect for Bush would be heightened.

But Condoleezza Rice, Bushs national security adviser, advised that it was too risky, it might be discovered, Suskind writes. Bush decided against if as a gut decision based on what he thought was a friendship based on several conversations, including during the presidential campaign. The CIA had warned him that Putin was a trained KGB agent  [who] wants you to think hes your friend.

--Suskind reports that Bush initially told Cheney he had to "step back in large meetings when they were together, like those at the NSC [National Security Council], because people were addressing and deferring to Cheney. Cheney said he understood, that hed mostly just take notes at the big tables and then he and Bush would meet privately, frequently, to discuss options and action.

--Suskind contends Cheney established deniability for Bush as part of the vice presidents complex strategies, developed over decades, for how to protect a president.

After the searing experience of being in the Nixon White House, Cheney developed a view that the failure of Watergate was not the break-in, or even the cover-up, but the way the president had, in essence, been over-briefed. There were certain things a president shouldnt know  things that could be illegal, disruptive to key foreign relationships, or humiliating to the executive.

They key was a signaling system, where the president made his wishes broadly known to a sufficiently powerful deputy who could take it from there. If an investigation ensued, or a foreign leader cried foul, the president could shrug. This was never something he'd authorized. The whole point of Cheneys model is to make a president less accountable for his action. Cheneys view is that accountability  a bedrock feature of representative democracy  is not, in every case, a virtue.

--Suskind is acidly derisive of Bush, saying that he initially lost his nerve on 9/11, regaining it when he grabbed the Ground Zero bullhorn. Suskind says Bushs 9 p.m. Oval Office address on the fifth anniversary was well along in petulance, seasoned by a touch of self-defensiveness.

Moving on its own natural arc, the country is in the process of leaving Bush  his bullying impulse fused, permanently, with satisfying vengeance  in the scattering ashes of 9/11, Suskind writes. The high purpose his angry words carried after the attacks, and in two elections since, is dissolving with each passing minute.

--Suskind writes in the acknowledgments that his research assistant, Greg Jackson, was sent to New York on a project for the book in September 2007 and was detained by federal agents in Manhattan. He was interrogated and his notes were confiscated, violations of his First and Fourth Amendment rights. The author provides no further detail.

Did you hear that Dick Cheney was snubbed by the Republicans and not invited to speak at the Republican Convention?

I guess their Oil-Man-in-Chief wasn't invited to celebrate the Republicans' dismal record on record high gas prices, and the failing economy in front of an audience of tens of thousands. Snubbing Dick Cheney won't change a thing. They can try to hide from their record, but they won't be able to run from it.

This is our time. We can make our message heard and take advantage of the unprecedented electoral map we have in front of us but only if we act now. August is a critical time for purchasing ad time and we want to raise an additional $450,000 for our 45 Red-to-Blue candidates.

As a special incentive if you contribute by MIDNIGHT tonight, you unlike Dick Cheney will win a chance to attend the Democratic Convention in Denver (August 25th-29th) as our guest. MIDNIGHT tonight is the last time we will offer a slot to the convention.

Kick off Denver-to-November with a contribution of $15, $25, or more by midnight tomorrow and you'll get a chance to win our final slot at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

We are ambitiously going into deep-red territory, competing on turf we never thought possible only a few years ago. Our three special election victories earlier this year in Illinois, Louisiana and Mississippi, while worth every penny, cost more than $5 million. And some of the top races in November will be in some of the most expensive media markets in the country.

Across the nation, we can remove the Republican roadblocks in Congress, who next year will take pleasure in road blocking Barack Obama and our agenda to turn the page on eight years of failed Bush policies. We call these opportunities the Red-to-Blue Program and today the DCCC just announced its unprecedented 45th candidate. These are impressive Democrats, campaigning hard and making districts in Republican territory competitive. Red to Blue's success will mean defeat for the Republicans in Congress who rubberstamped George Bush's policies for eight long years.

When Barack Obama steps into the White House, we can't afford to have these Republicans still in Congress blocking a new page in America with partisan politics.

Under the guise of clarifying existing laws, the Bush Administration has drafted regulations that redefine abortion to include commonly used, FDA-approved methods of contraception, such as birth control pills and IUDs.

This radical redefinition of abortion is at odds with science and the government's own definition -- that pregnancy begins with the implantation of a fertilized egg. Tell the Department of Health and Human Services to abandon these dangerous regulations now

The draft regulations are also intended to trump existing state laws that protect women's access to reproductive health care. In fact, these draft regulations threaten all women's access to contraception, and limit health care providers from providing information and services to low-income women.

This is a shameful political ploy in the final days of this administration. Join me in speaking out today, and let the Bush Administration know that birth control pills are not abortion

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (AP) -- A 73-year-old retired surgeon marching in silence with a tombstone picturing a soldier killed in Iraq. A philosophy professor calling for a new investigation into the September 11 terrorist attacks. A long-haul trucker from Texas protesting the price of oil.

Those are just a few of the images that demonstrators hope will capture the attention of delegates, journalists and others attending the Republican National Convention. Tens of thousands -- from anarchists and immigrants to advocates for the poor -- plan to use the streets outside the Xcel Center as a national podium, transforming downtown St.

Protesters and police expect the opening day of the four-day convention, September 1-4, to be the biggest -- with a huge anti-war march from the state Capitol to the Xcel Center and back. Groups representing labor, immigrants, gays and lesbians, solidarity with Palestine, and many other causes have signed on.

"The Bush agenda has really angered all different groups," said Meredith Aby, a member of the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War. "These groups have said, 'We can't survive four more years of this."'

Sen. Joseph Lieberman termed Iran's training of Iraqi insurgents "an act of war" in a Florida appearance Wednesday evening on behalf of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign.

The independent Democrat from Connecticut spoke at length about the threats facing both the state of Israel and the United States during a town hall meeting at the Palm Beach Synagogue in South Florida, describing McCain as ready to face global dangers as commander-in-chief from his first day in office.

Lieberman said that by loosing its elite Kuds revolutionary force to train extremists to fight in Iraq, the Iranian regime has "been responsible for the murder of hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq." "This is really an act of war," Lieberman added, "A proxy act of war."

Citing the threat of terrorism and Iran's nuclear ambitions, Lieberman praised McCain's experience, saying it had given him "good judgment in war and in peace." Lieberman said McCain is an "idealistic realist" who understands that when confronting al-Qaida and Iran's extremist leaders, "You can not sweet talk them into being reasonable, you can't give them a warm embrace and think they're suddenly going to become our friends."

In an obvious reference to Sen. Barack Obama's plan to negotiate readily with foreign despots, Lieberman said McCain would "never be so confused as to think you can sit down with our enemies without preconditions, unless it will really benefit ourselves." He added that Americans must understand that Iran is the No. 1 challenge to American foreign policy.

In reference to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Lieberman said, "History should have taught us that when we hear a leader of a state make statements so extreme as to seem almost unbelievable, we should take that seriously." Ahmadinejad, he said, regularly leads the Iranian masses in chants of "Death to America."

"We've got to take that seriously," Lieberman said, "because he means it seriously." Early in his remarks, Lieberman drew applause after he announced that former Israeli cabinet minister Natan Sharansky had endorsed McCain.

Asked later if he agreed with Sharansky that an Obama presidency was "a risk" to Israel, Lieberman told Newsmax: "I guess I'd say it affirmatively: A McCain presidency will be good for the state of Israel."

"We want to see whether the provisions of the agreement are serious. We will be satisfied if the agreement contains the withdrawal of US forces," Salah al-Obeidi, chief spokesman for the Sadr movement, told AFP.

"If so, we will complete the reorganisation of the Mahdi Army which aims to transform it into a social organisation," he said in the Shiite stronghold of Najaf, about 160 kilometres (99 miles) south of Baghdad.

But he also warned that if the withdrawal terms were not written into the agreement then Sadr's forces would remain armed.

"We will be forced to await the decision of withdrawal of American forces."

(San Francisco)-- A year to the date exactly after formally announcing her intention to challenge Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi for her seat in California's 8th district, Cindy Sheehan is officially on the ballot as a "Decline to State" candidate.

In order to qualify as a "Decline to State" candidate Sheehan was required to submit 10,198 signatures from registered voters in the district by August 8th, 2008; Sheehan's campaign collected close to double the amount of signatures needed and qualified before the deadline.

"Getting on the ballot is just the first victory for our campaign," says Sheehan.

"I am even more convinced now than I was a year ago that the people of San Francisco are ready to lead the way to step outside of the dated two-party system and elect someone who truly represents San Francisco values, not party loyalties and criminal activities."

Matty,  are we taking an official position on Offshore drilling?   That seems to be what the "other guys"  are talking about now.  I saw Lieberman and Kerry on Meet The Press last week backing their respective (though perhaps not respected) candidates,  and the main issue they were talking about was offshore drilling.

Personally,  I think it's unnecessary,  and would not solve the problem of high gas prices anyway,  so we should not encourage it.   I've got a cousin in Texas who works for an oil company,  drilling new wells, etc.    You know what they do when they drill a new well and find oil?   They cap it.   Yep,  that's right, they cap it.   They're not pumping the oil domestically,  they're saving it for "later".

Meanwhile, they're getting government subsidies and still making S16.25 BILLION in profit last quarter. (Exxon-Mobil)  Now,  one would think this is to maximize profit,  but withholding that commodity at $125/barrel?   I don't understand their logic... most of these oil tycoons are older, and those wells aren't likely to go dry if they pump them for the next 50 years,  by which time we shouldn't even be using gasoline for automobiles,   which would drastically reduce demand,  thus reducing the value of the commodity which they are currently stockpiling.

I actually think that we need to use less fossil fuels,  drive more efficient vehicles and develop and utilize alternative,  environmentally-friendly  energy sources,  but I don't understand the stockpiling of oil resources which drives up costs for citizens domestically while exponentially increasing profits abroad.    Unless they think the Middle East and South America are going to run out of oil in the next few years,  in which case we would be left in control of one of the most valuable commodities in the world, thus returning the United States to world domination...    but that isn't a likely scenario.

So, in summary...  we don't need to drill offshore, it would only create more profit for oil companies, while not benefiting consumers.   If the Oil Companies are hurting for cash,  perhaps they can start selling the oil they've already found.

Wounded troops hit by foreclosure crisis need your help to avoid losing homes!

Dear Patriotic American,

           We're being flooded with calls.

"Ever since I got out of the hospital, I've been unable to work. My wife can't work because she has to take care of me and the kids."

"Now, I'm holding a foreclosure notice on my home and I don't know what I am going to do."

It started out as a trickle. Just a few of the hundreds of calls the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes receives every week.

Wounded troops, many paralyzed, brain-damaged, burned or blinded asking for someone to help them save their homes and keep their families from being tossed out into the street.

Now, that trickle has turned into a flood and it is threatening to drown many of these wounded warriors.

Please click here to help prevent them from losing their homes.

My name is General Chip Diehl (Ret.) and I'm writing to you on behalf of the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes. The Coalition is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded to help troops who have been severely wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan.

So far, the Coalition has satisfied more than 6,300 requests for emergency financial aid and other assistance by sending severely wounded troops and their families more than $11 million.

Because of this surging need, we've just launched the Wounded Troops Foreclosure Fund, an effort to raise $1 million to help as many wounded troops and their families as possible who are facing foreclosure or eviction.

By clicking here you can make a generous, tax-deductible donation to the Coalition's Wounded Troops Foreclosure Fund.

I also want to ask you to take just a few seconds to sign a special THANK YOU and GET WELL card for a severely wounded young Marine, Soldier, Sailor or Airman.

When you make a donation, a special THANK YOU and GET WELL card with your name on it will be hand-delivered to a severely wounded hero who needs some cheering up. You can even type in a personal greeting if you like!

Click here to send your greeting to a disabled hero.

Your greeting card and donation may be helping someone just like Frank G.:

"On November 28, 2004, while on patrol in Iraq, I was wounded by an IED. I lost some of the use of my left lower leg and have partial paralysis. Soon after retiring, my wife and I discovered we couldn't make ends meet on the pension I was receiving.

"I sold personal belongings on E-bay and tried to find work. For the first time in my life,I had bill collectors calling me. I felt incredible shame and anger that I wasn't able to provide for my family, and I was afraid of losing everything I had worked for.

The day I called CSAH was the best move I have made for my family. The Coalition has given us the chance to keep our home. And because of all the people out there who donate to this incredible organization, we have time to find the solution."

So far, the Coalition has been able to help every single wounded troop who has placed an emergency call to the Coalition.

But this latest surge has completely busted our budget.

We've had to cap our emergency aid grants for foreclosures at $25,000 a week.

That's all we can afford to send.

But for the past couple of months, we have been averaging $36,000 a week in emergency aid payouts!

So, you can see, we are facing a shortfall of $11,000 a week . . .

. . . just as the need has risen to historic levels.

Two recent headlines on the front page of USA Today caught my attention, and they may have caught yours as well.

The first headline was, "Soldiers risk ruin while awaiting benefits checks." The article described how government red tape was holding up benefits checks for so long that many soldiers were winding up in homeless shelters.

The second article was headlined, "More U.S. troops battle foreclosure." It pointed out how America's foreclosure crisis is having a devastating impact on our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A little extra help may be all many of these wounded heroes need to turn their financial situation around, so please click here to make a generous donation right now.

These wounded heroes have protected our freedom, our families and our homes. Now it's our turn to protect theirs.

Please click here to make a generous, tax-deductible donation to the Coalition's Wounded Troops Foreclosure Fund.

Thank you,

P.S. The skyrocketing number of disabled servicemen and women facing foreclosure has wiped out our ability to help every single paralyzed, burned, blinded or brain-damaged soldier who needs help saving their home.

Many of these troops are unable to work, and nearly half their spouses have been forced to leave the work force and become full time caretakers for their injured spouse and kids.

Can you imagine how you'd pay your rent or mortgage under those circumstances?

That's why the Coalition has created a Wounded Troops Foreclosure Fund to help these families, and I hope I can count on your support!

Democrats adopt goal of health care guarantee

By CALVIN WOODWARD  3 days ago

PITTSBURGH (AP)  Democrats shaped a set of principles Saturday that commits the party to guaranteed health care for all, heading off a potentially divisive debate and edging the party closer to the position of Barack Obama's defeated rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Obama, soon to be the Democratic nominee, has stopped short of proposing to mandate health coverage for all. He aims to achieve something close to universal coverage by making insurance more affordable and helping struggling families pay for it.

Advisers to Obama and Clinton both told the party's platform meeting they were happy with the compromise, adopted without opposition or without explanation as to how health care would be guaranteed.

In return for the guarantee, activists dropped a tougher platform amendment seeking a government-run, single-payer system and another amendment explicitly holding out Clinton's plan as the one to follow.

The party now declares itself "united behind a commitment that every American man, woman and child be guaranteed to have affordable, comprehensive health care."

Under any system in play, most people would still put out money for health insurance as they do now, but they would get help when needed.

That was a common feature of the plans put forward by Obama and Clinton in the primaries. But she would have required everyone to get insurance while his plan makes it mandatory only for children.

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean praised "the spirit of this compromise." Judith McHale, a Clinton supporter who helped to lead the platform meeting, said Obama and Clinton advisers worked collegially throughout the process.

For the 186-member platform committee, one imperative Saturday was to satisfy Clinton loyalists still sore from the often acrimonious primary fight while keeping policy firmly in synch with Obama's campaign.

There was little dissent, or room for it.

Democrats made mostly cosmetic changes to a platform draft prepared for the meeting, a process designed to showcase unity more than to air differences in the party at large on hot-button issues such as the Iraq war, abortion and health care.

Party platforms are a statement of principles that are not binding on the candidates or the next president and they are typically given little attention after they are adopted.

Even so, the party's decision to embrace guaranteed health care is bound to become a leading yardstick by which Obama's presidency will be measured if he wins in November.

The platform was to be approved by the committee later Saturday, then submitted to the national convention in Denver later this month.

On Iraq, the platform states that Democrats "expect to complete redeployment within 16 months," reflecting Obama's time frame but not the tone of certainty he brought to it when he was running in the primaries.

The 51-page platform draft showed the influence of Clinton's supporters not only in the extensive section on health care but in its assertions about the treatment of women. Some of her backers believed sexism dogged her campaign for the nomination.

An extensive section on women's rights is included and the votes she received in the primaries are described as "18 million cracks in the highest glass ceiling."

Even so, the platform is thoroughly tuned to Obama's proposals.

It reasserts his promise of energy rebates to struggling families, pension subsidies, a crackdown on predatory lenders, higher taxes for families earning over $250,000, tax breaks for others, billions for economic stimulus and "direct high-level diplomacy, without preconditions," in the case of Iran.

On trade, it promises a multilateral approach to improving the North American Free Trade Agreement, without saying specifically what those changes should be. Obama criticized NAFTA when campaigning in states that felt disadvantaged by it, but the platform offers no suggestion he would take unilateral action against the deal.

Instead, it says: "We will work with Canada and Mexico to amend the North American Free Trade Agreement so that it works better for all three North American countries."

Democrats typically have a strong plank in favor of abortion rights; this year's version is stronger than usual. "The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right," it says.

Gone is the phrase from the past that abortions should be safe, legal and "rare."

The party also pledges to ensure access to adoption programs, prenatal and postnatal care and income support programs for expectant mothers who need the help.

The party also:

_Promises "tough, practical, and humane immigration reform in the first year of the next administration."

_Favors restoration of the ban on assault-type weapons and other "reasonable regulation" that recognizes the constitutional right to own and use firearms.

_Favors helping religious groups provide social services as long as "public funds are not used to proselytize or discriminate."

_Promises to close the Guantanamo detention center.

_Promises to double the Peace Corps.

Here is my theory on what to do in politics if your opponent is sinking: throw him an anvil.

That's just what we're doing right now to the Grand Oil Party by exposing all their sleazy ties to those Big Oil companies lining their pockets and sticking it to average folks at the gas pump. How would you like to help?

The Republicans are so desperate to hide their ties to Big Oil that they enlisted none other than the shadowy Karl Rove-backed Freedom's Watch to try and change the subject and promote John McCain's 100 Year Plan in Iraq. Right now, Freedom's Watch is spending millions on attack ads of the worst kind against any Democrat who dares to oppose their Big Oil agenda.

It's up to us to decide whether they get away with this trash.

My friends at the DCCC have launched an all out campaign including radio ads that started running on Friday to defeat these Republicans and their oil soaked campaign coffers. These Republicans have accepted millions and protected oil profits in the billions while we're left with nothing but empty wallets at the gas station.

Help spread the word far and wide about the GOP's big ties to Big Oil - check out the DCCC's latest radio ads.

Even worse, The Washington Post reported that Republican Leader John Boehner has spent the last week doing a series of golf outings while a small band of House Republicans remain in Washington to call for "drill only" legislation that does nothing to bring immediate relief to Americans paying high gas prices.

Changing the subject with their Karl Rove campaign of distraction is what Republicans do best. The only way we're gonna win this fight is by getting the word out, which is just what the DCCC is doing.

They're going up on the radio with response ads and doing whatever it takes to make sure everyone knows how hard Republicans are working to protect those same Big Oil companies who earned a whopping $44 billion in profit last quarter alone.

Help spread the word far and wide about the GOP's big ties to Big Oil - check out the DCCC's latest radio ads.

The last thing those Big Oil Republicans want is for word to leak out about how much money they're taking from those oil companies who are profiting off the pain of America's families. So let's tell everyone all about it.

Defaults on consumer debt -- mortgages, credit cards, home equity loans -- have dominated the news and sent markets reeling in recent months. Now the next wave of defaults looms. And it's a growing roster of corporations that figure to be the deadbeats.

U.S. corporate bond defaults are already on the rise. Moody's on Aug. 7 reported a sharp rise in July defaults and now expects the global default rate to climb over 6% over the next year. That's up from less than 1% in late 2007.

Standard & Poor's predicts that 4.9% of all speculative grade borrowers will default over the next 12 months. And there is a chance -- estimated at 20% -- that things could get much worse, with over 8% defaulting. Default, of course, sets the stage for bankruptcy court. "Default typically precedes Chapter 11," said Diane Vazza, head of global fixed income at Standard & Poor's.

Like a storm felling the weakest trees, a new wave of defaults would level the most debt-laden firms. It would mean new losses for many of the private equity deal makers, banks and investors who financed recent debt-heavy leveraged buyouts.

Let's give California back to Mexico

Just One State

This is only one State...............If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will !

From the L. A. Times

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people)are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. Are Spanish speaking.

10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3..9 million speak Spanish.

(There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County. )

(All 10 of the above are from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida , and New York) results from immigration.  29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue

HOW CAN YOU HELP ?

Send copies of this letter to at least two other people.  100 would be even better.

This is only one State...............

If this doesn't open your eyes nothing will ! And you wonder why Nancy Pelosi wants them to become voters!

Rep. Dennis Kucinich, erstwhile presidential candidate and strident opponent of the Bush administration, gave the most spirited speech of the session Tuesday condemning the war, the economy and the Republicans

Short in stature, the Ohio congressman leaped up onto his tip toes time and again, thrusting his arms out and up, getting the crowd to roar so loudly he had to yell into the microphone to be heard.

It will become known as the Wake Up, America speech.

Fellow Democrats, are you ready for November? he asked.

Its election day 2008 and we Democrats are giving America a wake up call. Wake up, America!

In 2001, the oil companies and the war contractors seized the country and added four trillion dollars to the national debt.

Millions of Americans have lost their jobs; trillions of dollars for an unwarranted war paid for with borrowed money; tens of millions of dollars in cash and weapons disappeared into thin air at the cost of the lives of our troops and innocent Iraqis.

Meanwhile, with the U.S. helping to rebuild infrastructure in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no money to rebuild bridges in America.

Then he launched into a Wake Up litany:

The insurance companies took over health care. Wake up, America!

The pharmaceutical companies took over drug prices. Wake up, America

The speculators took over Wall Street. Wake up, America!

With each refrain, the delegates grew more frenzied.

We went into Iraq for oil, and now they want to drill more into your wallet. Wake up America.

This administration can tap our phones but they cant tap our creative spirit. They can open our mail but they cant open economic opportunities. They can track our every move but they lost track of the economy.

He played on the terror alert level color chart.

Every day we get the color orange while the oil companies, the insurance companies, the speculators, the war contractors get the color green. Wake up, America.

This is not a call for you to take a new direction from right to left; this is a call for you to go from down to up.

Up with peace! Kucinich yelled to approving roars. Up with prosperity! Up with education! Up with Democrats!

The delegates continued to cheer through the first part of the next speakers remarks.

"Regrettable," but not unavoidable, Condi.  When Bush made it clear to the world that invading other countries was an acceptable way for nations to behave, well... we can all see the results.

Furthermore, what most folks don't realize is that, back during the George H. W. Bush Sr. Administration, Pappy Bush made an agreement with Mikhail Gorbachev, that, if the Soviet Union were to withdraw troops from any former East Bloc nation, the US wouldn't try and enlist those former Warsaw Pact nations to join NATO.

Junior, of course, broke that agreement, by trying to get both Poland and Georgia to join NATO.

George W. poked, "The Bear" - and ONLY George's brain-washed supporters are wondering why on earth the bear growled back

China, Iraq reach $3 bln oil service deal

Thursday August 28, 2008

By Elaine Kurtenbach, AP Business Writer

China, Iraq reach $3 bln revised deal for CNPC to develop Ahdab oil field

SHANGHAI, China (AP) -- China and Iraq have signed a $3 billion deal revising an earlier agreement for China's biggest oil company to help develop the Ahdab oil field, an official at the Iraq's Oil Ministry said Thursday.

The deal, restoring a project canceled after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, was signed late Wednesday by Chinese officials and Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani.

"The initial agreement has been signed, and we are waiting to see the approval of both governments," said Sarhad Fatah, a spokesman at the Iraqi Embassy in Beijing.

Fatah would not disclose the value of the deal, but an official at the Oil Ministry in Baghdad confirmed it would be worth $3 billion. He requested anonomity because the agreement hasn't been approved by the cabinet yet.

Major oil companies have been reluctant to commit to deals in Iraq because Baghdad has yet to enact a law to govern the oil industry.

The government of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein signed a deal in 1997 with China's oil company, government-owned China National Petroleum Corp. It was to take effect once U.N. sanctions on Iraq's oil industry were lifted.

That contract, worth $1.2 billion at the time, gave a subsidiary of the Chinese company concessions to develop the field on a production-sharing basis for 22 years.

A CNPC spokesman, Liu Weijiang, said Thursday that he could not provide any information on the new agreement.

If it is approved, the agreement would be the first Saddam-era oil deal to be honored by the new Iraqi government.

A number of companies say they signed deals with Saddam's regime and demand that those be honored, or the countries involved be given priority on new agreements.

But the Iraqi statement said that some technical services contracts with other big petroleum companies might be postponed.

Iraq's Oil Ministry has consistently denied giving any advantage to companies with which Saddam signed deals, instead insisting that oil and gas fields and exploration blocks will be offered up for bids.

Iraq sits on more than 115 billion barrels of oil, but decades of wars, U.N. sanctions, violence and sabotage have battered its oil industry.

The Ahdab field is located in @#$%e-dominated Wasit province, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad. It has been the scene of sporadic attacks since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

As security improves, Iraq is trying to bring in foreign companies to help increase crude output from the current 2.5 million barrels a day to 3 million barrels a day by the end of 2008, and 4.5 million barrels a day by the end of 2013.

Associated Press researcher Bonnie Cao in Beijing and Sinan Salaheddin in Baghdad contributed to this report.

House panel votes to cite Rove for contempt

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - A House panel Wednesday voted to cite former top White House aide Karl Rove for contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena to answer questions about the dismissals of several federal prosecutors as its Senate counterpart explored punishments for an array of alleged Bush administration misdeeds.

Voting 20-14 along party lines, the House Judiciary Committee said that Rove had broken the law by failing to appear at a July 10 hearing on allegations of White House influence over the Justice Department, including whether Rove encouraged prosecutions against Democrats such as former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman.

The Larry "wide stance" Craig bathroom a tourist favorite   .   "Tourists flock to Minneapolis airport men's room

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. When you go to Minneapolis, you might put the Mall of America, the statue of Mary Tyler Moore or maybe even the zoo on your list of things to see.

Now tourists are asking about a new destination in the Twin Cities, says Karen Evans, information specialist at the information counter at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

A common request is, "Excuse me, can you please tell me where the Larry Craig bathroom is?"

Evans was just 15 minutes into her shift Friday afternoon and already had heard the request four times.

"It's become a tourist attraction," Evans said with a smile. "People are taking pictures."

Since news broke Aug. 27 of the arrest of Idaho Sen. Craig in an airport restroom here, the airport has been fielding requests for directions to the men's room in question, which is conveniently located just off the central food court and popular shopping area.

Abdalla Said, who works at a newsstand on the G concourse, said he's been getting requests daily for directions to the infamous bathroom.

"It's by the Lottery shop, right next to the shoeshine shop," he said without blinking. Gee Butler and Royal Zino work at the Royal Zino Shoeshine shop. Zino, the owner's grandson, said the shop has been in the same location for 45 years. Some of the shop's famous clients include James Brown and Muhammed Ali. And Sen. Craig?

Probably not, Zino said, although he thinks he might have been witness to the senator's June 11 arrest. "I might've actually been here. Me and my buddy were watching them doing a sting," he said.

And since the story became public, the restroom has become a photo-op, Butler said.

"People have been going inside, taking pictures of the stall, taking pictures outside the bathroom door man, it's been crazy," he said.

Directly across the hall from the bathroom is Inmotion Entertainment, a DVD rental kiosk. Kelly, who declined to give her last name at her manager's request, works for Inmotion. "There've been a lot of people coming to see it," she said. "I've been asked several times to take photographs of people in front of the bathroom."

"It's a morbid fascination," said her manager, who declined to give his name.

Jon and Sally Westby of Minneapolis were flying to Guatemala on Friday. "We had to just stop and check out the bathroom," Sally said. "In fact, it's Jon's second time he was here last week already."

"I checked it out," Jon said. "It's the second stall from the right."

Chevrolet dealer group closes all 14 dealerships

(AP:COLUMBUS, Ga.) One of the leading sellers of Chevrolet vehicles in the country has closed all 14 of its dealerships.

In a statement released Wednesday, Bill Heard Enterprises says the closures will affect about 2,700 employees.

The statement says the company did not have the resources to continue operating. It cites factors including rising fuel prices, an inventory dominated by trucks and SUVs, economic recession, unfavorable market conditions and the current banking and financial crises.

The Columbus, Ga.-based company had five dealerships in Georgia and nine in six other states _ Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Nevada, Tennessee and Texas. The Arizona dealership closed two weeks ago.

McCain was really the Nostalgia candidate tonight.  I was really impressed by his command of history.  I suppose I shouldn't be -- afterall, he did live it.  McCain really makes you remember the "good 'ol days.  When the buck stopped somewhere and you could still buy something with it."

But then you remember that the folks who gave us the good 'ol days are also responsible for the mess we're in now.

GO OBAMA!

Think of what the objectives were for each candidate. McCain, with 26 years in the senate , needed to show that his mastery of foreign affairs was far and away better than Obama's grasp of matters facing the United States on the gloabal stage. At best, McCain allowed Obama to tie him in last nights debate. Tie goes to Obama, since this was Mccain supposed strength.

Now, what was Obama's objective? Obama's objectve, in a debate staged in the deep south, was to show that he had a mastery of the factors pertaining to foreign policy. He did that. He also needed to show millions of undecideds that he was thoughtful, wise, diplomatic, plainspoken, and presidential. He did all that. While McCain made a mistake not looking at Obama, as if to show the white south that Obama, as a black man, had no right to be running for the president, looked unable to communicate with a political rival or adversary in a professinal manner, and was much less presidential in doing so. Obama, on the other hand, debating in the deep south venue, needed to show that he was not an over the top, hate whitey, arrogant, and divisive black man, like say, Jesse Jackson. I don't think that anyone watching that debate could infer that Obama has a anti-white posture, or chip on his shoulder from what they saw on the TV last night. He showed respect for McCain, though McCain did not do the same for the other presidential candidate on the stage. Obama, again, looked presidential, and McCain looked like he was stuck in politics, and racial bigotry of the past, by not acknowledging the other presidential candidate on the stage, who just happens to be black.

And finally, in the quest for the undecided vote, Obama came out on top. How did he do that? By acknowledging to the millions of viewers that the far left liberal Obama, was in agreement with McCain on many issues and points by saying "John is right" Senator McCain is right", time and time again. Foolish rightwingers saw that as a sign of weakness, but it was really a political bit of genius. How Far to the left can Obama really be when he's in agreement with McCain on so many points? Or how far to the right can McCain really be when Obama agrrees with him on so many points ? So for those more in the middle Obama showed himself to be less of a liberal and more of a diplomatic consensus builder, rather than the same old republican bludgeoning scorched earth politician.

Winner. OBAMA.

Let's Be Realistic - Tomorrow will be MASSIVE selling       As panic and the realization that we are just in the beginnings of a huge recession or a depression, people will start panic selling and rush out the doors. There will be a few bagholders left, and the door will hit their a$$ along the way out... Others will be trapped inside where they will thirst for hunger and water.

Right now, some Americans are living day to day not even knowing what's going on. Ignorant fools. Others are thinking it won't affect them. Morons. Those idiots will be hit the hardest. Save up, because this is going to be a very long and gloomy winter.

The DOW will see 1,000+ point drop tomorrow. That's about 12%, which is not unrealistic at this stage in our doom.

The world will start another war in order to gain resources. Armageddon is coming my friends.

Look at the world markets falling over 10%.... ouch

After 8 years of massive incompetence and corruption from the Bush Administration and the Republicans in Congress, the public has finally had enough. The Obama lead is climbing every day. Don't be surprised if he doesn't win Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada and Florida. All he needs is to maintain the blue Kerry states and just ONE of the six mentioned above and he is our next President. But it doesn't stop there. We democrats will have big increases of our majorities in the House and Senate. Obama in 2008 will be for the Democrats what Regan was in 1980 for Republicans. And its about time!!!

Either way change will be slow to come.  All these grandiose ideals they are spewing out and ect are nothing but rehetoric and half truths spun by a political machine that backs them both.

I am a republican but do not always vote down party lines, I vote for the best canidate based on things I feel are important to what my stances are.  If I had my druthers I would vote for neihter one as Obama is no more ready to lead a nation that Matty as mentioned (no offense buddy), and on the other hand if McCain would croak you have a former Mayor MILF with NO political chops running this country and no friends on the international landscape.  Either way it totally scares the hell out of me.

In my opinion we are screwed either way.  The most progressive changes come out of the house and senate anyway, look to elect the guys or party that will make the most positive changes based on your stances.

Who the Hell wants that job anyway, it is like taking the wheel of the Titantic after it already hit the iceburg!!
