What big time sporting events have you seen live?

by Johnny Detroit on 07/09/2008 10:21 AM

Being a sports fan, it is always exciting to experience a big time event live.  It could be the Super Bowl or even seeing Hulk Hogan bodyslam Andre at Wrestlemania III. Below is a list of interesting and exciting events I have seen in person and would love to hear some of the things other forum members have seen live. Here is my breakdown of events seen live:

Super Bowl- Pitt/Seattle
World Cup- (not final), but when it was in the US I was at the SilverDome
Masters- No, but have went to the Ryder Cup
World Series- Tigers/Cardinals
NBA Finals- Yes Pistons/Various
BCS Championship- No, been have been to BCS games and countless Bowl Games (from Orange to Motor City)
NCAA Basketball Final- No, but Elite 8 and Sweet 16
Boxing- Seen Mayweather defend his title in Vegas

Others:
Wrestlemania- Say what you want, but it was fun to be at
USA/Soviet Union- Saw some hockey matches in the 80's
MLB All Star Game- The one in Detroit + HR Derby etc
Stanley Cup- Wings/Various
Arena Football- Went to the games when the Detroit Drive seemed to win every year
Kentucky Derby- Do not remember much besides alot of titties and mint julep

Interested to get some stories about any events listed above and others not mentioned like the Olympics.

Who is next?

Pending whether it is a type of sport or just a skill game, but went/played in WSOP Main Event.

Rose Bowl- BCS National Championship - Texas/USC, best sporting event I've ever been too

Final Four in Atlanta two years ago - met tons of celebrities, have a picture with Pacman Jones to prove it.

Not sure if you brought up NASCAR, but those are fun too.

NBA Finals in Dallas, solid atmosphere.

Personally, I think college football is the best live sporting event to attend.

Agree on the college football, especially bowl games.

The Michigan win over Alabama was one of the most exciting things I have ever seen live.

I've been to 3 NBA Finals games involving the Bulls (all losses), 4 NCAA Lacrosse Final Fours (including 3 national championships won by Syracuse) and 2 small bowl games.  The biggest event I regret not going to was the 2003 NCAA Final Four in New Orleans when the Orange won it all.

The only ones that come to mind are Army-Navy 2007, and whatever that game is called before the AFC championship (not wild card game) Colts vs Bal

I was there for that Matty, I was a Junior at UT at the time and our professor gave us that Monday off.

TJ Ford vs Melo, Melo dominated. I drank a lot.

Recently went to CFB games at Clemson and saw USC/CAL last year up in Berkeley. Would like to go to a LSU game soon, hear they are outstanding.

This will not be considered by many as that big a deal, or at least not like in the past. My wife and I go with a local group of friends every year to the Indy 500 and let me tell you that until you witness it and all the festivities that go with it you cannot truly understand what a blast it isl We always sit on the paddock in pretty damn good seats and the start of that race is beyond description. I would very, very strongly urge everyone to attend at least once. Every year our group has at least a couple of newbies and to see the look in their eyes is priceless.

I went to Game 1 of the NBA Finals in 1991 - Bulls v Lakers in Chicago.  It was supposed to be game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Detroit, but the Bulls swept the Pistons and my Game 5's became Game 1's.  Bulls lost

I went to Game 3 of the NHL Finals - Blackhawks v Penguins in Chicago.  Blackhawks lost.

I've seen my Razorbacks in 2 Citrus Bowls and 1 SEC conference championship...Hogs lost all 3

I'm the cooler.

I heard it gets pretty wild at the Indy and Daytona. Boobs popping out like the Derby?

JD, Indy was a wild time.  I always partied in the infield and it was like the world's largest kegger.  I've seen people having sex, lot's of boobs, one time I saw a guy wrestling WWF style with a Weber charcoal grill - one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed.  He was suplexing it, clotheslining it, and at one point, jumped off the roof of his van onto it.  Crazy.  When CART left Indy, we stopped going because the IRL drivers were so terrible.

Daytona was a bit more laid back and definitely catered to an older crowd.  And at Daytona, people actually watch the race.
