Post-Superbowl NBA Hangover: NBA RoundUp for 2/8

by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 12:09 AM
Wow, what a Superbowl!

Can't say enough about how amazing this is for the city of New Orleans. I take my hat off to the team and the fans, and I only hope that everyone going nuts makes it through the night in one piece.

We did not have an NBA play yesterday, as the short card didn't really afford a ton of value. We did like Toronto a little bit, but the line just wasn't juicy enough to make it a posted play, so we moved on. Unfortunately, this Monday card isn't really one for the ages, either, but it's our job to sink our teeth into it and see what it tastes like.

As far as streaks are concerned, we went 2-1 on Saturday, winning both of the free plays and dropping the paid play, but ALL premium selections are still rocking strong at 10-5-1 in the last 16 plays, and 22-13-1 in the last 36, record that are quite profitable, I might add!

Sports Wagering

Hornets @ Magic - Orlando by 7.5 with a total of 194.5. The first thing that struck me when I saw this line was "what the hell are the oddsmakers smoking?" Orlando to win by just 7.5 over the Chris Paul-less Hornets? The Magic are indeed on the second half of a back-to-back after posting a nice road win against the Celtics yesterday afternoon, so that is indeed giving the line a slight downward bump, but man, this line is just asking for a bet on the Magic, and I don't feel like you can ever really trust a line like that. The Hornets managed to steal a win against a Bobcats team that hadn't been home in ages and was in a trademark letdown spot, but now we're asking this team, that is relying much more heavily on the fast-break without Paul, to beat a vastly superior Magic team that may have played some of their best defense all season. The question here is whether the Magic can parlay that nice win over Boston into a home cover, or if they'll suffer a letdown after the big ABC game on Sunday. This game is tough to predict, as you've got a New Orleans team that could very easily get blown out of the building if Orlando gives even a decent effort. They could certainly cover if Orlando lets them hang around for a half. To me, it's basically a coin-flip. I lean to the Hornets to grab another cover here, though I highly doubt they can pull off the win, as I feel Orlando might be in for a weak performance after picking up the season series in over the Celts. It is worth noting, though, before moving forward, that the Magic beat the Celtics in a great comeback just a couple weeks back, then proceeded to destroy the Hawks the very next game; they did have a day off to rest up for that one, and here they're on back-to-back, a situation that has seen the Magic post a 5-5-2 ATS mark. The total is also intriguing, as we've seen the Hornets really push the pace, playing to 8 of 9 overs, while the Magic have been trying to grind games out, playing to 9 of 11 unders. This one is a crapshoot no matter how you cut it, but I'm inclined to believe that with the Magic on the 2nd half of a back-to-back, there may be a couple quarters in here where they lose focus on the defensive end; I lean Over.

Spurs @ Lakers - This line is OFF. And for good reason - Kobe Bryant is hurt, and his late scratch, the injury news that plagued our Top Play on Saturday, is right back in focus in this game in LA. But what do we want, really? The Lakers other guys stepped up big time in the road win over Portland, just the way you'd expect them to when the superstar went down just before gametime. It's been discussed ad nauseum, the "Injured Star Theory", but one of the most interesting facets is trying to determine how long the "other guys" can make up for the superstar. Some believe it's 1 game. I happen to believe it varies depending on the quality of the team and the prognosis of the injured star. That is, psychologically, the "other guys" deal with a different sense of what sort of effort to put forth. I think in this case, where the Lakers know they're only going to be without Kobe for a game or two more, max, if that, guys like Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom can carry a team for a couple games, not just one. It's a predicament, to be sure. Hell, maybe Kobe will play and it won't matter, but I'd actually rather bet this game without Kobe, since I think the Lakers home crowd can potentially carry the other guys even if they start to run low on energy. On the other side, the rickety old Spurs are coming off an easy winner over the Clippers, another team that was coming home off an 8-game road trip and just completely unfocused. San Antonio has played pretty well on the rodeo road trip so far, but the Lakers are going to be playing with some strong revenge here. San Antonio beat LA in Texas by 20 in a game the Lakers just never showed up for, and the Spurs shot a ridiculous 57% from the field. That most certainly will not happen again, and if the Lakers are again without Kobe, we can expect the same deliberate offense and methodical team defense (and great rebounding). And really, other than the fact that the Spurs just ran all over the Lakers earlier this year, the Lakers have had nice answers for San Antonio since they acquired Gasol and since Bynum learned how to play a little. I lean Lakers and Under.

Mavericks @ Warriors - Dallas by 4.5 with a total of 218. This is a battle of two teams, pardon the expression, literally crapping down their legs. The Warriors, the home team, are fresh off getting crushed, again, by the Thunder. They have lost 8 straight games SU, and while they're 4-4 ATS in that same stretch (and 7-4 ATS in their last 11), this team is barely covering as a dog, and while they might actually be getting a point or two of value because of the public's horrible perception of them, they are an extremely dangerous play. I have always liked backing the Warriors against the Mavericks due to the Don Nelson connection, but it looks like Golden State is starting to slow a little. They've played to 3 straight unders, and averaged just around 98 ppg while doing so, when their season average is over 106! If the Warriors can muster up some energy, playing them against the Mavericks is a great proposition. They've covered the last 3 games in Oakland against the Mavs, and they're actually 19-9 ATS against Dallas over the last decade-plus. The question here is whether fading Dallas is a valuable choice right now. The Mavs are 0-6 ATS since January 26th, so they're playing some awful basketball. The biggest issue continues to be defense, as the Mavs allow 98.7 ppg to their opponents on the season, but have allowed their last 6 opponents to each break 100. They're also 5-2 O/U in the last 7 games. Interestingly, though, one of the unders came against these Warriors, when the teams combined for 211 points, well under the posted mark of 218. In fact, both games so far have been under 218, the same total each time. And guess what? It's the same again. So our job is to try to determine if oddsmakers are just going to continue to try to split money on 218 until they have to change that value, or if indeed they believe this total is going to get up to 218. I'm inclined to believe the Warriors score a ton of points here against the porous Dallas defense. I like the Warriors, and I like the Over.

I don't know how you do it man!  Super Bowl kicked my ass.  Not in the handicapping way (actually had a big winner with the under), but in the wings and beer way.

And now I see you putting in the work to get Mondays card ready!  You're a machine!

Honestly though that's what makes you one of the best.

I'm hitting the hay right now, but definitely look forward to following this blog early tomorrow morning.

Hope you had a great Super Sunday, Dan!

Hey Tony!

Hahaha, yeah, I figured once I let the beer and pizza digest, it was time to get back down to business!

Just three games tomorrow, so I wasn't completely overwhelmed looking at the card, and yes, that helped, hah!

Can't wait to get some of your plays/leans in the morning, Tony!

You're a TOP QUALITY ASSET here at Pregame, and I always know I can expect the best when you drop by the blog!!

And of course, I TRULY appreciate the kind words!  I like to think of myself as pretty damn dedicated, but it's nice to know others take notice :)

Gomez, nevermind, I see the thread, haha!

Actually, this raises an interesting OPPORTUNITY!

Guys, I know some of you are probably asleep, and others are reeling from the 4 types of wings, 3 types of dip, tortilla and potato chips, sausages, dogs, pizza, and whatever else you jammed in your gullet....BUT...

Many of you have clamored in here for a Dan Bebe long term package, and it seems like if RJ is going to consider making a new one for Mike, this might be our opportunity to get him to make one for me, as well!

You guys know how badly I want to see a nice discounted package up there so you guys don't have to go through the process of buying the pick every day AND can get a huge discount.

If you want a BEBE long term package, feel free to drop a note in that thread that Gomez was talking about.  It's here at this link:

And finally, my last post tonight (unless someone asks a question in the next half hour, and I'd love to answer that)...

I have uploaded my TOP PLAY PACKAGE for a 1* Play of the Day tomorrow!

It is the standard $15 for those interested!  I know the Portland play didn't work out (thanks Kobe, you butthead), but the winning remains VERY consistent at 10-5 in our last 15 plays overall, and 22-13 on our las 35.  That type of consistency is something I am VERY proud of!

Here is my Pro Page link for those interested nice and early:

Congrats to the Saints an their backers.. I've been busy with my review.. I did win with Toronto last night.., So today I wad leaning to NOH and Dal.. i think they might get it done this time while they are on the start of this road trip., and yeah I agree with the magic letdown but I don't know if I can trust Noh right now..

Dan, maybe you can help. All of my free bucks I've earned from chats and things like the tweets are not showing up in my discount page. They were there a couple weeks back, but not anymore. What up with that?

BTW I'm looking at the Lakers only today even though my numbers point to the Hornets & Warriors as well. I know right now that I won't be backing them tonight. However if everything falls in line with that Laker game I may have to put some down on them.

Anjorlino - I'll be checking out some of the overnight line shifts as soon as we finish recording the podcast, then I'll be able to make my final notes.

Dallas scares me a bit, since they just haven't been stopping anyone, but I have to wonder if that home loss to the Wolves is going to be the bottoming out point.  I mean, really, how many ATS losses in a row can this team put together?  Tough side to pick in that one.

Hey Bubba!

I'm not positive about the Pregame bucks - my guess is that they have a 1-2 month expiration.  If you wanted to get them back, you're such a loyal guy around here, I'm sure you could just email Marco and he'd give you a fresh coupon to use.  That's just my best guess, though.

I think we agree on all 3 games today, though I'll be honest - I like some of the totals more than the sides!

posted by TheBrick21 on 02/08/2010 8:25 AM

Dan,

This Lakers / Spurs matchup follows into the "Lakers playing against top opponents take the under" theory. Only problem is, do you think this line is down a few points because of Kobe's questionable status and Bynum being doubtful?

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 9:04 AM

Awesome questions, Brick!

I think the Spurs might not quite be in that "Top Opponent" category this year.  I just don't feel like the Lakers take them that seriously, and with the two injuries, the line is probably lower than it might normally be.  Well, specifically the kobe injury, since I don't think Bynum has any effect on the line at all.

I would look at the Lakers first, since I think the non-kobes step up for a second straight game - they built some confidence, and we can't forget how good guys like Lamar and Pau can be.

Liking the DAL-GS over.  Tread carefully if you like Dallas.  I'm seeing ~80% on the Mavs yet the line hasn't moved off 4.  It went to 4.5 at a few places but quickly moved back to 4.  Something smells fishy.

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 9:45 AM

Very screwy line in that game, Jmjinx!

I don't see how folks can bet the Mavs right now.  Even if you hate the Warriors, that would seem to be reason to PASS on this one, not a reason to like the Mavs, who haven't covered a game in weeks!

Notlebet, I'm fairly undecided on the Orlando/New Orleans Total.

I do still have a lean to the OVER in the Dallas/GS game.

Golden state may not have a good record but their ATS is not bad at all.  I am trying to find the percentage right now but i can tell you GS has cashed a lot of tickets for me this year.  There is no reason anyone should be leaning towards Dallas, they are terrible ATS.

Rule #1: fade sweenbeagle's personal picks the last 7 days!

today's pick is on dallas -4. I'm going more qualitative analysis here. I think Dallas needs a whipping boy after they've played so badly lately. They've been blowing leads and have a defense like a piece of Swiss cheese. But here they have a bad western team who has also been faulty lately. I'm betting Dallas comes out hard this week and tries to string together some wins going into the break. They have a playoff position now, and can't afford a meltdown. I think the earlier loss against the warriors definately lowered this line, but I think there's some value in -4. Golden state has been getting worked by double digits often of late.

I'm not touching this total. I feel it's literally a 50/50 think. If one defense shows up it stays under, but will that happen?

What's up buddy??  Glad you could drop by, and I DEFINITELY appreciate EVERY nice comment made.  It's amazing how hearing that folks appreciate my work can turn a mundane day into a good one! :)

In terms of the games tonight, I think today is a great day to GO SMALL.  Only 3 games, and in my opinion, not a TON of value on the card.

I like the Hornets a fair amount, but at the same time the Magic have actually been decent in these letdown spots.  They have won most of the games immediately AFTER playing the Celtics this year...so be careful there...in fact, tread lightly today all around.

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 11:44 AM

Sween - I'm not sold on Dallas.  I think if you dislike the Warriors, this game should become a no-play.  Dallas's defense (or lack thereof) basically ensures that they can't pull away from anyone.  If they score on 10 straight possessions, they'll only build 6 points on a lead, since their opponent is probably going to score on 6-7 of theirs.  They're not forcing turnovers, no one can shoot on that team besides Dirk and JT, and if they're not dominating the glass, they basically lose the game outright.  TREAD LIGHTLY.

Monday is going pretty well; I got a full night of rest last night for the first time in a couple weeks, and I think without football, Sunday night is going to be my time to catch up on rest.  NBA and MLB don't have many games on Mondays, usually, which makes my capping a bit less strenuous.

Just now about to start my write-up on the play of the night in the NBA.  Short card, low/mid value day, so it's just going to be a standard 1* play.

How are you this fine day??

Unfortunately, no Free Play today :(

I REALLY tried to find one, but just couldn't quite pull the trigger.

I think the Maggette injury scared me a little in that Warriors game, and when push came to shove, I just didn't like 2 games, and being that I'm only betting one today, I decided to just lay low, and pound tomorrow's bigger card, which is almost sure to have a freebie or two!

Hey guys...been busy the past couple of days.  Hope everybody had a good Super Bowl and made some loot.  As for the card today.  My only thought is to take the Hornets getting 9.5.  I'm also thinking about taking the Lakeshow at -3.5.  I see Bynum is doubtful but looks like Kobe is playing??  Either way I think the Spurs aren't what they used to be and this is a small number for the Lakers at home.

Anybody love or hate these?

That's what it's all about for me, helpmemakemoney (I'm going to start abbreviating your name as HMMM if that's okay)!

I still think that game is Warriors, Over, or nothin'.  If it's the type of game you'd want to put a half unit on, or something of the sort, I don't think that would be an awful idea. The Warriors have been a cash machine at home against the Mavs, who have played ZERO defense over the last 2 weeks.

When I said "go small", I just meant don't get carried away trying to double super bowl winnings OR make back super bowl losses.

This is a trademark ONE PLAY day :)

Coutu!  What's up??

I saw you posted in that other thread, so hopefully we can work as a team to get RJ to get the Pregame admins to set up a longer term package for me, then you guys can finally get some DISCOUNTS (thank goodness!)

I like the Hornets +9.5 - the line movement is a little disconcerting, and the Magic have actually been a team that seems to look ahead more than they suffer letdowns, but Hornets have been running well and getting some open looks.  The Chris Paul letdown is coming soon, but not yet.

Kobe, I'm seeing, is a game-time decision?  It might be worth buying the Lakers low, and if Kobe decides TO PLAY, you could middle.  If he doesn't, you've got a decent bet on the Lakers at a short line?

posted by gcoutu_9 on 02/08/2010 2:30 PM

Makes sense to me.  i think I'll play them both but small since we have some larger cards on the horizon.  I'll also keep an eye on the Lakers line in case something crazy happens there with Kobe.

Yeah, I would love to see a reasonable long(er) term package for you.  Your results and outlook is more long term so it makes sense for us getting on board.  It gets my vote for what it is worth.

When GF puts a play out, free or otherwise, it is a GOOD PLAY.  If this game was in Nawlins, I would say to lay off, but as long as the Hornets are on the road (and hopefully not as hung over) as if they were playing at home with the Super Bowl madness, that's a green light on Darren Collison and co.

Good afternoon, as always!

Watching the line today, I get the feeling JM's v3.0 plays aren't getting the traction that his 1.0, and to a certain degree, the 2.0 plays get.

Dallas actually had a very SHORT spread most of the day, and I would have expected the line to move the other way if books were expecting Dallas money.

Go small today, Sweet.  Just a 1-unit play!

How are you today, friend??

I leaned Over in that early game because I feel like the Hornets are playing SNEAKY-FAST basketball right now.  People look at them and assume that without Paul they can't score, which is partially true.  They know it, so they've been running like crazy lately, and playing to the Over quite a bit.

I saw you had that Monta Ellis prop - VERY smart choice!

I really like WVA line opened at 5 up to 5.5 even though 79% of the money on nova? hmm dan u like that line move? as I am typing this Hook just tweeted side to avoid Villanova. I feel strong on texas but not as strong as wva maybe it is a no play for u I would hate if it lost and u took it but all my strong indicators are wva.My initial lean lookin at the line was nova but as i dug into I love wva

For me, when I see a move like that, I generally avoid the game....BUT...if you like WVA, then it definitely supports a play on the 'Neers!

I was at Cal when we went 1-10 in 2001 under Boller and head coach Tom Holmoe.  Boller looked like a fish out of water.  Tedford made him relevant, but something always seemed a little screwy with that brain of his...

TY for your feedback Sink, I think I will stay with this one service and take NOVA, probably a mistake.  It seems like WVU has a knack of coming back in the 2nd half of games, so I hope NOVA can build up a nice lead in the first half to stave and hold off a 2nd half comeback, GLT you

What up DB.

Not much to choose from today.  I'm going with

1.5* on the Lakers

1.5* on the over in GS

1* villanova

1* over in nova game.

I think the Lakers can win this game even w/o Kobe, and if he plays, all the better.  I think the odds makers expected a big public play on the spurs with all of the Lakers injuries.  So I really like LA in this spot, based on the value in the line.

I expect very little D in GS tonight, plus the last 2 times these 2 teams played the total was set at or around 218.  Both went under, and it opened at 218 again.  I have a feeling, odds makers have a feeling this will go over.  So I'm feeling the over :)

Villanova line is inflated because of Georgetown game on saturday.  But that was a bad spot for them, and I expected them to come out strong in this one, which they did in the second half.

The over in nova is just a free play that Tony G gave out, so I took it.

Big NO PLAY for me on the first NBA game.

Have slight lean towards the Warriors, based on weird line.  Any thoughts on the side in that game?

Best of luck to you today, buddy!

Hahaha, oh, they will.  I can guarantee that.

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 5:31 PM

Well, for one, I took the OVER in this early TNT game - that was my only play tonight.

Lakers I think is a strong play, but obviously, the reason I ended up staying off was that it's often tough to know exactly how the "other guys" will respond to game two without Kobe, especially if they get a bad MRI result right before the game.

I think the GS/DAL game is going to be right around 218.  Oddsmakers are pretty confident in that number, and they're getting mostly split action, so I don't think they care if the game goes under or over so long as they collect on the juice.

On the CBB front, I have to admit, I forgot what I handicapped this morning for the show, since once I realized they were no-plays for me, I just put them out of mind.  Bad habit, but 6 years in northern california left my short term memory one step slow, hahah!

posted by gcoutu_9 on 02/08/2010 5:35 PM

Hot shooting so far in the Hornet-Magic game is good for that over.  Hopefully the Hornets do most of it and get us both a big W

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 5:39 PM

Agreed!  Nice tempo, too.  If the Magic weren't turning it over every other possession, this thing might be at 55 points already.

Dwight Howard is aggressive early, which I like.  Hornets can't even come close to stopping him.  Okafor is too short, and Sean Marks?  Come on, I know he's a Cal guy, but sheesh.

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 5:48 PM

Hahaha, Dave, interesting way to look at it, but I have to give you credit, you're saying what I'm thinking...

60-points per quarter won't keep up, but I thought the pace was pretty good.  Most shots occurred in the first 15 seconds of the shot clock.  I'd like to see more free throws, especially for Orlando, and fewer turnovers for the Magic going forward, but I certainly can't COMPLAIN about that total.

posted by sinkcom on 02/08/2010 5:49 PM

Now we get to talk NASCAR!  No way the 5 car wins the chase, sorry.  I think this will be a very interesting year and look for guys like Montoya and Ambrose to make things close with the "usual suspects" this year.  I imagine it comes down to Smoke and Johnson this year but I think the players in the chase are a little bit more "diverse."  If Kyle can jive with the new crew chief (which is unlikely and why they fired Addington is beyond me) he can be a contender...I think he has more talent and balls than anybody.

I tend to really save my 3* plays for, at most, once a month, usually more like 2-3 per season.  You can best bet I'm keeping my eyes peeled for it, though!

My last couple 2* plays have had some bad breaks, so I'm even more hesitant to toss out a bigger play.  I just keep thinking now, that some idiot is going to be a late scratch or someone is going to hit a buzzer-beater.

I'll find it, though don't you worry!

Dallas-GS I liked this morning, then Maggette went down.  I think the UNder is the big sharp play on that game, but I dunno...

I think you're good here, Dan. Playing at a 252 pace. And yeah, historically, Cal and conserve don't mix. I know how hard you worked to try and change decades of history, though. And because I know your "star" ratings, if you do find a triple, I'm all over it. But, I would be no different than you, knowing I am helping control someone's wallet..........

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 6:50 PM

Hope so!  Hornets not scoring here in the 3rd, which is exactly what I feared, in terms of the Under pulling off the mega-miracle.

In terms of the triples, or whatever I'm going to end up calling mine, I'm justgoing to keep trying to find winners, and I think as long as the wins greatly outnumber the losses, things will fall into place.  If it's a 3*, it's going to be a beast of a situation game.  It's going to take a lot.

I haven't released one since turning Pro, and I've had just one all NBA season -- it was a winner on the Bobcats way back when the hosted the Raptors in November I think.

Citadel wins outright .They have been playing well that is why I laid off Cof C looked like the pick but citadel has been playin really well amazing they win on the rd in that spot

dan,

what do you think about this LA line down to 2.5??  This line has been dropping all day.  Is this just bc of Kobe??  With it going under 3 i am starting to question myself!!  What do you think??

Zobel - yes, I think it's Kobe.  The value is with the Lakers right now, but that game is a FAT PASS for me.

HOW ABOUT THIS NO-SWEAT WINNER ON THE OVER?

I'm moving on to capping tomorrow's games, already, and it's only 10:12 here!

Nice call on the over, Dan.  I played it as well.  It was either this or the DAL-GS over.  Those were my only options tonight.  Glad I went with this play as DAL-GS got steamed under a bit this afternoon.

posted by guevones on 02/08/2010 7:49 PM

dan, beautiful hit on Orlando over. love ones like this that are never really in question.

i ended up laying off of Dallas.

guys, how's in going? i'm exhausted and elated from my saints win last night and subsquent late night party. We watched in local bar in new orleans and it was freakin unreal down there. i'll give y'all some more details later.

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 7:50 PM

Coutu, just turn away, the end is going to stress you out, but it's going to come in a winner.

There we go, all done!

Jinx - GOOD CALL goin' with this one.  Fighting against that UNDER steam on the Warriors game and the Maggette injury would have been way too risky of a call.

Dan, I live for the sweat!  2-0 with 2 bets to go.  Got La Tech (which may be a nail biter) and the Lakeshow.  Worst i can do is lose the vig and thats fine...shared 2 bottles of wine with the bride, quality time with the girls (2 daughters) and got some sports in.  Quality day in my book.  Oh and may sell $3M worth of real estate this week...life is good gents.

Sweet - SHARP angle on the 2nd game.  Still, I'm of the mindset that if a star is going to be out for 2-3 games and the other guys know they only have to play super hard for 2-3 games, I think you BACK them in the first game, then AVOID the game altogether in the next 2-3.  I think I differ from most cappers in that thought process, believing that it has a TON to do with the prognosis for the injured star.

Jkling, I'm just up highway 23 in Ann Arbor, so we can dig ourselves out of this mess together!

Just took a glance at tomorrows huge card, and one game jumped out at me.

Dallas @ Denver

Much like you, I also like to look fade teams on a BTB going into Denver.  Plus the Nugs lost at home to the Mavs earlier this season.  This game already has me chomping at the bit.

Can't wait to see the number.  I expect something in the 9-11 pt range.

I'm sure you'll touch on it in Tuesdays blog, just thinking ahead.

haha, Tony, you guys are starting to know me too well!

I want Dallas to come back against the Warriors and make this thing a battle to the death.  Tucker themselves out a little.

I just watched a few minutes of that game on League Pass -- the Warriors broadcasters are easily among the 5 worst tandems in the League.

posted by tonydaguru on 02/08/2010 8:54 PM

haha, I've never had the pleasure, or displeasure, of hearing them.

I'm with you on the Dal/GS game!  Let's hope they wear themselves out tonight!  As long as they are playing from behind, and still within striking distance I think we'll get it!

posted by tonydaguru on 02/08/2010 8:57 PM

anyone have any thoughts on the second half of the lakers game?

I took lakers -3.5, should I take spurs +.5 and just lose the juice, or should I ride it out?

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 9:02 PM

Lamar Odom is going to make a HUGE impact in the 2nd half.  This guy is playing with all kinds of confidence -- you can really tell he's enjoying himself, and I believe the Lakers stay right with the Spurs the rest of the way.  Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmar are doing a pretty solid job on Tony Parker, and if Gasol could get even 1-2 of those baby hook shots to drop, Lakers would be up a half-dozen.

I like the Lakers right now - I think they're playing hard, and I don't see them giving up on this game. 2nd half wager is a total coin-flip.

boy am i glad i decided not to get on Dallas, Dan. they might come back here but i don't know if they'll cover that -5.

Drew Brees just got a standing O from the crowd at the Letterman Show. Maybe they always do that but still, pretty damn cool.

Morning Hotspur!

Most of the leans look pretty good from when I put this blog out, though Monta Ellis just destroyed his knee, so the Warriors probably won't cover.  BRING IT ON HOME!!

posted by guevones on 02/08/2010 10:06 PM

man, the Spurs offense is just painful to watch. They look as if they have no plan at all out there. what's going on with these guys?

their D, rebounding, and hustle is pretty lacking as well.

posted by guevones on 02/08/2010 10:10 PM

and the Mavs outscore GSW by 18 for the late win and cover. meanwhile, SAS has scored just over 30 points in the second half.

posted by Dan Bebe on 02/08/2010 10:15 PM

Hah, f**kin' Mavs.  Though I still think The Warriors cover if Monta Ellis doesn't hurt himself there late.

He cut the deficit to 5, then the Warriors had to foul to get him off the floor, that pushed the deficit to 7, and the idiots that replaced Ellis out there just couldn't do anything the final 3 minutes.

Though I do like that Dallas won, because they'll get a little credit going into Denver...

i remember that last time Dallas went into Denver the game was seldom close and Dallas won by about 10. dallas was playing really well then though as opposed to now. was denver's last game that atrocity against the Suns? if so, I'd have to lean to Denver also but, I still don't much like fading Dallas on the road.
