Finally, Some Televised Games: NBA RoundUp for 1/28

by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 10:13 AM
Well, it was bound to happen at some point, and it did: a bad call. There isn't much else to say about the Warriors yesterday. They showed up late in the 4th quarter, but that was about it. That loss drops our Paid Play run to 6-3, still solid in my book.

We did, however, nail Toronto as our Free Premium selection, and Free Premiums moved to 6-3, as well, so we're very consistent, and this should serve as a reminder that ALL of my plays are Premium Plays, and that the Free selections are often within a fraction of a percentage of being as good as the Paid Plays. They're a group, and they should be taken together!

Sports Wagering

Raptors @ Knicks - New York by 3 with a total of 214. This one's got a couple situational angles worth exploring. First, and perhaps most importantly, the Knicks will be looking to get some sweet revenge on the Raptors, as the Raptors rolled into New York just under 2 weeks ago and beat the Knicks by 8 as a 2-point dog. So, looking at today's game, your first thought might be, "well, if they can do it once..." but not so fast. The Raptors were playing that game on 3 days rest, and they'll be playing tonight's contest on a back-to-back, where we've seen Toronto is less than perfect. Those crazy Canadians had to play a hard, drawn-out game against the Heat, truly using every tool in the bag to defeat the Heat and cover, and then immediately had to hit the road for this one. For those numbers guys out there, the Raptors are 2-8 ATS on the back end of these b2bs, 1-8 when the second game is played on the road (as is the case in this one). The Raptors defense also seems to suffer a great deal when they're tired, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the Knicks really pour in an absurd number of points, especially in the second half. New York is in the final game of a current 5-game homestand, so I expect them to bring a nice effort, what with wanting to hit the road on a positive note, and the obvious revenge factor. The Raptors shot 53% in the last meeting between these teams and exploded out to a 24-point lead at halftime, so I expect the Knicks to remember these games, and I expect them to come out with a greater sense of purpose. Do not be surprised if Toronto takes an early lead, since teams on back-to-back often have some adrenaline going early, but once that wears off, Toronto should fade, much like their game in Milwaukee last week. I lean Knicks, and I lean Over.

Celtics @ Magic - Orlando by 3.5 with a total of 187.5. Another game with all kinds of wacky angles. These teams have played twice this year so far, and in each game the road team has been the victor. I actually believe that trend changes in this one. When Orlando beat Boston in the first meeting, that virtually ensured the second game would be won by Boston, in Orlando. Now, it's almost as though we have a clean slate. Looking at some recent games, it's tough to see either of these teams with a clear advantage, though I do find it interesting that the Boston has failed to cover 5 straight games...BUT...with Kevin Garnett getting stronger and healthier now, every game, the Celtics are going to get that road warrior fire back. I said it on the podcast, and I typed it in here, the Celtics will only go as far as Kevin Garnett can fuel them to go. He is the anger that makes them such a good road team, and here they are, back in Orlando, looking to win 2 straight over the Magic in the Magic's building. This is a tough one, that's for sure. Can we trust that the Celtics aren't getting too much credit just because KG is back? Can we know for sure that this line hasn't been preadjusted to account for the fact that Orlando is avenging that home loss to Boston back on Christmas Day? My take on this situation is that Orlando had one of the worst single quarters/halves in the history of their franchise in that Christmas Day game, leading to a 38-27 halftime lead for the Celtics, and I just don't see that happening again. This game might very well be low-scoring and a defensive struggle, but Orlando will at least break 30 points in each half of the game, and they'll shoot better than 33% from the field. I lean Orlando on the side, and I lean just slightly to the Under on the total, though I think this posted total is finally reflective of how these two teams play their games.

Dallas @ Phoenix - Phoenix by 2.5 with a total of 216. Dallas has forgotten how to play defense. Now, does that mean that Phoenix wins this game? I don't know for sure. I do know that I can't really trust the Suns right now, as they've covered just 1 of their last 7 games, including blowing a relatively large home lead over the Bobcats, letting Charlotte take that game to overtime, and then letting Charlotte win outright in OT. Yikes. The Suns still have the potential to win some games at home, but given Dallas's recent run of poor defense and the Suns recent run of poor everything, this is looking more and more like a side I want nothing to do with. Phoenix is on something of a revenge spot, as Dallas beat Phoenix by 1 back in early December, in Dallas, though Phoenix did cover the +4.5 spread they were graciously awarded in that one. My main concern with this game is that somehow, by setting this line at Phoenix -2.5, oddsmakers are either saying that there's a greater-than-7 home court adjustment between these two teams (which makes no sense, given Dallas can't cover a toast with butter at home), that Phoenix has moved up in the power rankings, compared to Dallas, or that they are almost "taking a position" that the Suns are the stronger bet in this game, and want to put a premium on them so that sharps don't get too succulent a line. I'm inclined to believe it's the latter of those three options, because watching these teams is definitely an indicator that Phoenix has not gotten better, they're tumbling like crazy. Because oddsmakers are giving us a hint of who is going to play the stronger game, I'm backing off my initial lean to Dallas. I'm not sure there's enough information here to make me like Phoenix, but if I had to lean in any direction, I'd go with the Suns to capitalize on a team that just isn't stopping anyone. It would then seem like if the Suns dictate the tempo, this game could go over, but I wonder if books are expecting a relatively weak performance from Dallas. I lean slightly, barely, maybe not even enough to call it a lean, to the Under.

What are you gonna do with football ending???

I know, my blog is kind of adjunct to pregame, and I've thought about moving it into a forum thread, but I kinda like having this weird little personal space out here on the outskirts of the forum, haha!

Hahaha, but I want to be able to talk to you guys, my blogger peeps, so I figured twitter was a nice in-between, where if someone else gets it, I still have something separating my address and phone number, etc. from those weirdos.

About to record the podcast - back in 45!

Good morning Dan, what 's up I see you like all faves tonight on the heels of the last two faves covering last night. That would make it 5 faves covering in a row. My trusty tracking spreadsheet says that never happened this year. I see one of these dogs(incidentally all road teams) coming through tonight. I am still working on tonight's card but I have a heavy lean to the Knicks.Good Luck .

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 8:54 AM

Gomez - I definitely lean to the home teams - you have to give a little edge because of the TNT cameras, but today's angles also strongly dictate leans to the home clubs.  I like 'em all.

Also, some monster steam hit the Orlando/Boston OVER, so that UNDER is OFF my card!

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 8:56 AM

Icewinder!

What's up, buddy?

Yeah, I like the faves, but some more than others!  Knicks are in a decent spot, and I think the Suns line looks like a trap.  I also think Orlando plays the better game.  I guess the question is whether these teams can cover!  I won't be playing all 3, that's for sure.

I likely have my Top Play selected, and will be writing that one up shortly, but the question becomes then, which of these is my second favorite?!

DB

great stuff as usual - i really like ur breakdown of the ny tor game - love those angles u came up with in that one

i was actually leaning over in that pho dal game though, given both teams recent form pertaining to totals -  but i guess nothing would suprise me with these two teams right now...

im going to look for some good quotes that might give us some insight

good luck!!

posted by icewinder on 01/28/2010 9:04 AM

Yeah Dan I saw where that total in the Orlando got steamed big time and I see a surge pf bets following that steam BUT steam is sometimes TOO LATE! I have seen this type of move before and I am not fooled, this looks like someone looking for a better total and they are coming right back with an even BIGGER position on the under. You have to trust your handicapping Dan, remember the Chicago game last night! Don't let these line movements dictate everything. I am getting on the UNDER 190 NOW!!!

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 9:10 AM

BR!

I've missed your quotes!  I'm so glad all the regulars are returning to the blog after I took a few days off there!

Yeah, that NY-TOR game has some fun situational angles, and those are often the most enjoyable to write about, but really, all 3 of these games are LOADED with angles

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 9:12 AM

Nice Ice!

I love those STONES you're showing, there!  I'm probably going to skip that total, but I liked the Over in the first game, and that one got steamed up a few points, too.  Maybe Knicks/Raptors Over as a potential free play today?

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 9:42 AM

Alright guys, let's get down to business!

I'm feeling quite strongly about MULTIPLE plays on the card, and I'm working on the write-up for what will likely be just my THIRD 2* play since turning Pro.

I know it's on the heels of a STINKER with Golden State, but you guys know me - I'm a bounceback handicapper, and I really think I've found a sweet one.

posted by guevones on 01/28/2010 10:23 AM

you think putting the suns at 2.5 means that vegas is putting a premiun on the Suns? meaning, you think the Suns should be 1 point favs in real numbers? i feel like the public would just jump all the hell over tjhe suns -1 (to win the game). i still see Dallas as the better play here (because I don't at all trust the Suns right now) but I doubt I will touch a side in this game.

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 10:25 AM

Alright guys, I'm taking YOUR advice and I'm going with what my handicapping numbers have, and I'm not worrying as much about line moves between 1 eastern and 4 eastern, and I'm releasing my TOP PLAY right now.

I have a true and fair line separation of 3.5 points on this game, which, for better or worse, means it's time for a 2* release!

The play is uploaded, and the Paid Play, a 2*, is the same $15 as always.  Here's the link!

You guys know I'm a bounceback handicapper - I don't go on many 10-0 streaks, and I don't go on many 0-10 streaks, and I really like tonight to bounce back from that bunk Warriors pick last night!

I do, G.  I think this game is begging for Dallas money, as the road dog.  One of the best road teams in the NBA against a team struggling like hell?  Very "stinky" business, to quote our buddy Razorbackfan

posted by ZOBEL0022 on 01/28/2010 10:57 AM

Dan, what are your feelings about this line movement in the Raptors vs Knicks game??  All the money is on Toronto but the line only goes up to -3.5??  I don't like the sound of that!!

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 10:58 AM

The line movement definitely does not favor a play on Toronto - Raptors in a tough spot here, Zobel!

Hi Dan, apologies for my recent absence. It seemed that as soon as you left for your stag do my luck evaporated. I couldn't score in a brothel when it came to betting, so I am currently on a hiatus from betting. I do plan to get back on the horse shortly once I am done licking my wounds.

Last night seemed to sum my betting up... I had gone a week without a bet to see my bookie was giving me a free £5 bet. I decided to go for broke and went LAKERS, BULLS, RAPTORS, SPURS and FRIGGIN BLAZERS last night in a 5 fold. I know a 5 fold is ridiculous but I could only laugh at my luck, given it was the last of the 5 games that screwed me.

I'll continue to read your blog in the meantime and hope to make a spectacular return in the not too distant future.

Best of luck with your picks tonight and I may treat myself to your paid pick... although I won't say so till tomorrow because If I do you're probably doomed with my current streak lol.

I love the Knicks in this spot tonight. They are 7-3 ATS revenging a home loss. Raptors are 2-8 ATS on back to backs. Action has been on TOR, but line has moved up to 3.5

Thinking of a half-unit, possibly a full unit, on NYK

I haven't watched him play at all since his poor showing at the US Open last year. Maybe he's playing more aggresively now. You can't beat Federer any other way unless you are Rafael Nadal 2 years ago.

Brits need a win in tennis badly.

If this game DOES go Over, it'll be by 4-5 points at most, and I imagine the game itself goes down to the wire!

as a Mississippi State fan I can warn folks against taking the Dogs tonight in Fayetteville. We typcially blow  in Fayetteville, though we have handled the Hogs in S'Ville for a while now, even back when Ark was a great team. But, we just never play well in Fayetteville. I think we have won a few times in the last few years but, even when our teams are vastly superior to Arkansas we struggle up there in Bud Walton. Now, that being said, we are much better than Ark this year even though we have grossly unachieved, and we are coming off a loss to Bama and we know that we need to win this game because these are the type of games you have to win in conference play if you're gonna make the tournament after losing some bad non-conf games early in the season. my advice on this one is to take Ark or simply stay away.

Guys, I'm going to recommend a PASS PASS PASS on the Mavs/Suns game!  It is NOT my Paid Play, so I'm not giving anything away, but if you have seen the overwhelming support for Phoenix almost EVERYWHERE I've looked, I'm starting to think some of the bet% numbers on that game might be skewed slightly.

THAT IS NOT TO SAY PHOENIX WON'T WIN.  Hell, they might, but I think this is LESS than 50% probability on that game.

Bet what you like, but handle with care is my suggestion.  Handle with care.

G - sorry for the late response.

Yep I live in London, in a north west suburb called Harrow (don't know if that rings a bell), and yeh Tesco is by far the market leader over here in the supermarket industry... I wouldn't quite say it's our equivalent of Wal-Mart, but it's pretty strong.

When were you last here?

I've only been to Florida over in States, but I would love to visit some other cities if the chance ever arises? Any cities you recommend?

Oh on another note... a girl from Auburn University moved into my m8's house for a semester the other day (I go to Nottingham University and she's doing a semester over here) and the culture difference was remarkable!

Ben ---- I'm not far from Auburn.

Last time I was in London was when I was 17, I think. When I was a kid I remember walking to the Tesco a lot. I still grab Hob-nobs every time I see a store around here that sells them. We used to buy like 30 packages of them to bring back to the states.

I, and I bet a lot of folks in here, could recommend a ton of places in the states to visit. If you ever decide to make the trip over find me up in here and I'll give you some recs.

And yes Hobnobs are very good! The other thing I would say we do better is beer!

Besides the obvious of wanting to visit New York at some point... I really would be spoilt for choice as to what cities to visit - you seem to have so many great cities - New Orleans for one has always intrigued me.

Over here with the exception of London and maybe Manchester I really wouldn't say any of the other cities are particularly amazing. Liverpool and Newcastle maybe, but they seem to be nothing compared to the cities you guys have.

Only London really has a skyline for example, and even that pales in comparison to lots of cities you guys have!

NASCAR, that's something us Brits don't get - we just see it as cars going round in a circle (literally) - that isn't meant to be offensive, but that's our ignorant view I guess.

The motorsport that is big over here is Formula 1 - especially given the last two world champs have been English

I also watch and bet the indy 500 every year but can never get into any other indy car race. Nascar is alot about the personalitys and the culture although nascar has legislated driver personality out of it over the last few years and their ratings have suffered because of it they are supposed to relax the rules this year to bring the drivers etc back into it i hope so with JJ being the champ and all the rules it has not been very exciting I must admit when football starts I dont watch many sunday races anymore

erm Formula 1 cars are probably the most technically perfect cars you'll find around... for example they create enough downforce that they can literally drive on ceilings of tunnels. they do actually run on petrol though.

I can't really justify why it is better than any other motorsport really - I guess the glamour around it gives it an aura. Some of thr tracks they drive on are spectacular too eg Monte Carlo and Belgium.

HAHA I can't stop laughing... not at you or who you support!

I'm laughing at the irony of it - I am a HUGE Tottenham Hotspurs fan... I'm a season ticket holder! And yes you spanked us earlier in the season at the Emirates and yes it's been 11 years since we beat you in the League although I do savour the 5 - 1 mauling we handed you in the league cup semi final 2 years back :)

As for betting on it... ALL THE TIME. It's the sport I know the best, so it's usually where I win the most.

Chelsea should cake walk the Premiership this year - they are far too strong and Manchester United are so reliant on Rooney it's ridiculous! Arsenal would really have had a chance had Van Persie not got injured. Who do you fancy for the title?

I've also backed Portsmouth, Hull and Wolves to get relegated, although now Burnely have lost their manager they may go down instead of one of em.

Also, will Toronto run out of gas in the second half?  That was my prediction, so let's see if it comes true!

posted by SnapperK on 01/28/2010 5:54 PM

Ben, we really should not try and takeover this US Sports Forum. As Brits we obviously have an interest in the NBA, NFL etc and College ball and hopefully we can do our bit to convert our friends on Pregame to our own round ball game.

Now Dan, how do you feel about how the Raptors, Knicks game is developing? You got it spot (as you often do) last night in predicting the Toronto rally against Miami and tonight you say that the Knicks should take over 2nd half.

I backed Toronto at the outset, aiming to switch if Raptors got off to a strong start. Now I'm wondering with their strong 2nd qtr whether the Raptors can continue to surge to take a lead - theyve got momentum right now.

I know firsthand how much time Mike puts in, and just like with me yesterday, we're going to misfire every so often.  Perhaps his use of the "100%" remark was a little too strong, and I would never tell you NOT to be mad if you bought a play that lost, but you certainly need to take it with a grain of salt.  The guy has been dominating CBB, and he was due for a couple losses.  Best of luck moving forward, WJ!

posted by SnapperK on 01/28/2010 6:20 PM

You've gotta be confident of your pick and someone like Mike knows his college hoops backwards - but sometimes things go AWOL unaccountable.

Need I remind you of New Orleans last week Dan? No, I lost some on that too. Just completely wrong and unpredictable.

Sometimes we all make mistakes, but Mike will get back in his groove pretty quick and that is 100% sure

I will always reply to critical posts, and I'll certainly reply to questions, win or lose.  As you saw, and as Snapper noted, I've had a few clunkers myself, but overall, I feel like most of my plays have been spot.  Same with Mike.

It's not that I think a hot capper is going to lose as soon as they get hot, I'm just saying that losses are inevitable for everyone.  The mathematical odds of winning 12-13 games in a row are over 10,000 to 1, if I'm not mistaken.  So basically, I don't know that there's any PERFECT time to get on board with a capper.  If someone is good at a particular sport, that's a guy that should be used in that sport, preferably long term.  I sell my plays not with the assumption that I'm going to lose as soon as I win a few, but with the knowledge that everyone will lose, and if we can hit 55% in the long term, then we'll all be winners!

I hope that helps to a certain degree - I just want to make sure anyone buying plays knows that it's never going to be a guarantee, but that they know I"m going to be right here, accountable, and putting in a ridiculous number of hours every day to helping folks not only get MY Top Play, but also learning how to handicap and pick winners without my assistance down the line.

posted by jtevans on 01/28/2010 6:40 PM

Ben,

I truly was worried about Spurs this year. It seems like you were making some quality signings. Getting Defoe and Keane back was a huge boost for your squad. The one signing that I thought would really push you into the Top 4 was Luka Modric, but I'm not sure he's really done much. You obviously would know more than I do.

I agree with your Chelsea pick. United didn't do enough to replace Ronaldo. While Valencia was a great signing (and underrated before coming to United in my opinion), Ronaldo is truly irreplaceable...unless you replace him with Messi of course!

Chelsea have so much squad depth. Their biggest test was during the African Cup of Nations because of the loss of Drogba. They seemed to have weathered the storm. It's usually easy money to bet the Chelsea money line.

I have followed and played the game for quite some time now and feel like it's the sport I am most knowledgeable about, however, I am terrible at predicting games. I guess I haven't put a ton of thought into each match like I do when I bet on the NFL or NBA.

What kinds of things do you look at when betting a game? Do you ever bet the spread? I understand if you are reluctant to help a Gooner win money! HA

posted by SnapperK on 01/28/2010 6:50 PM

Yeah Sink its FOOTBALL, soccer if you will.

Anyway for the past 3 or 4 year a perennial top 4 best teams have emerged, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool - the latter have been so very inconsistent this year and the other 3 have not hit the levels of the past. But the last 3 seasons you could easily have just backed each team's games blindly, home or away and won a bundle.

So many weekend all 4 teams have won and if not 3 out of 4, so you could have bet them in combinations. If you could bet 'in play' back then if and when they go behind in agame and they will still win.

Such has been their dominance.

This season Chelsea have been the dominant team so far, but dont write off Man Utd just yet. They have a habit of winning and even without their top players and the loss of the irreplaceable Ronaldo, they will noty be far away at the end of the season.

Arseanl should take 3rd spot and qualify for Europe, but Liverpool are really under pressure from 3 other teams, Man City who have billions to spend on players literally, Spurs and Aston Villa who have both got very nice teams with good squads of players in case of injuries

Sink-

I'm sure they appreciate you sticking up for them.  This all goes back to old thing that if you didn't respond or were short and brief, he would lose interest.  People come into chat rooms/message boards/blogs to bitch because they are lonely and need someone to give them attention.  Don't give them attention and they stop.

Sink - the usual regular bets on Socce rthat we do here are on what you'd call match odds ie Win, Lose or Draw, - dont often bet hcap like on US Spoorts cos often games can be low scoring

Becuase of that one of the popular bets offered on the UK betting sites would be unders or overs - a bit lijke betting total points on NBS, except with soccer it would be under/over 1.5 goals, 2.5 goals, 3.5 goals etc - or some sites offer total goals, ie 0, 1 or more, 2 or more etc.

The English Premiership does not have many 0-0 draws, this year theyve had more than before, but some foreign leagues can be very low scoring and also very dodgy ie fixed (Greek, Turkish Leagues often)

So a number of bettors try consistently beting say 1 goal or more or trying over 1.5 - if you can bet in running you can usaully get odds of around 1.5 after 15 mins of the game (ie with still 75 mins to play) which are pretty good odds on just 2 goals being scored.

Of course the first time you do it you get get are rare scoreless game and be wiped out, but if you backed say Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal's games to be 2 goals or more each time, you'd get a decent profit

For example Chelsea last 5 games have been

3-0, 2-0, 7-2, 5-0, 2-1

Man Utd last 5 games 3-1, 4-0, 2-1, 3-0, 1-1

Arsenal had a 0-0 draw last night but before that its been 3-1, 4-2, 2-0, 2-2, 2-1

Uplay - exactly - I'm just trying to keep the peace, not jump on anyone.

In any case, I'm basically sick to my stomach that that game just ended on a f*cking offensive foul.

Makes me think the fix was in...I mean, I hate to say it, but the Knicks don't get one bailout foul in the final 2 minutes, and then an offensive foul gets called at the buzzer?  That was one of the most absurdly reffed final 2 minutes I've seen in a long, long while, outside of games featuring the Warriors.

posted by gcoutu_9 on 01/28/2010 7:12 PM

Not sure if anybody else had the Knicks on TV but they gave that game away from 5 mins left to the end.  Tor opened the door but they were flat footed and lazy.  Damn shame since we had their side of the bet.  Shit happens.

Sink - I hope you don't think I'm mad at you, man!!

Again, I'm just trying to make sure this blog remains a safe haven for posters, is all!

We can chat over twitter if you want to vent or feel like we need to chat.

Truthfully, you are THE MAN!  You defend Pregame and its cappers to the millionth degree of your capabilities, so do NOT be offended if I ask you to take a deep breath, because I just want to make sure things remain cool and collected in here, and I know if I can address the guy causing the problems, I can usually talk things down before they escalate.

In any case, you're one of my FAVORITE guys on here, so please don't take my attempts to get you to let me take care of it as a slight.  It was merely the Pregame Mod in me.

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 7:23 PM

Hahaha, no, no sides.

My concern is that we lost Sink - I hope he's not still upset tomorrow.  I hope he knows I was just trying to keep everyone calm so we could sort out the mess.

(sigh)

I hate this drama - I just have way too much to do for each day of selling picks to deal with yelling matches, and that's why I wanted to quell things before they picked up.

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 7:24 PM

I think the Mavs win the late game.  All 3 road teams, that's my new take on things, haha.  Everyone in the world that I've seen is on Phoenix, and the books just aren't going to let us catch a break today. Go Dallas.

As "consumers" we are allowed to be upset with a purchased product even involving and uncertain outcome.  WJ felt that way and thats fair.  Probably no reason for anybody to comment on it but Dan and I think he did a fine job discussing it.  I doubt anybody loses any sleep about any of it (other than we lost a few bucks today).  Soooooooo, we shall move on and hope for better results tomorrow.

Alright fellas, I think this minor incident is officially in the rear view.

Time to start breaking down tomorrow's card.  Obviously, I hoped for a better result there, but the Knicks just couldn't quite get it done in the end, getting called for an Offensive Foul as time expired - a terrible call, but that's besides the point, the Knicks should have DOMINATED the 2nd half, and just didn't take advantage of the Raptors fatigue at all!

We'll be back tomorrow with more thoughts, of course, and I hope that everyone can work together, not pointing fingers, and we can win some damn money!

Uplay -

Did you end up taking my late recommendation to play Mavs?  I think SportsbookSpy was WRONG today.  It's looking to me like books took the most money on Knicks and Suns, but that the smaller, more numerous bets might have been on the road teams.

I liked the Under in this late game, but time will tell!

posted by gcoutu_9 on 01/28/2010 7:59 PM

Anybody seen anything legit about trades for Amare'?  With the Suns reeling right now and him expecting a max contract why not deal him now if possible?  He should try to get with a team that will want to pay him before all the other studs are available at the same time anyway.

Ya i have the mavs, nothing on the total.

Kinda like it at first look with Boston off back to back and the way their game went tonight on the road.  I think it is a good spot for ATL at home to get on track and they get up to beat the Celtics.

posted by anjorlino on 01/28/2010 8:39 PM

yeah I think ATL is in a good spot but I've been picking the wrong side this past week that's why my confidence is really low right now..

dan - you can say new orleans or nawlins. i only ask that if you call it nawlins you spell it correctly, like you have now.

ben, yes, college sports, particularly college football, are king in this south. you have to remember that a lot of the states in the south don't have professional teams. mississippi, alabama, arkansas, kentucky, south carolina. none of them have professional teams so, college sports dominate down here. you should go check out an SEC football game when you come over here.

I don't watch NASCAR, though I may be in the minority, and I'm in freakin Mississippi. I can't for the life of me bring myself to watch it or care about it.

Sink, you don't like biscuits and gravy? my lord, sir. i just don't get that. and i'll have to get you some of my mom's cornbread. have it with some ham and black eyed peas and you can't go wrong. i like me some deer meat as well, though i am not a hunter.

oh, and kissing cousins is optional around here.

Haha, a fine summary, G.  Sorry about the Knicks, man.  Back to back clunkers.  But, as we discussed via twitter, you owe me nothing, so let's just keep dominating the NBA 5 out of 7 days a week!

posted by guevones on 01/28/2010 9:35 PM

Dan --- I wasn't on the PP tonight. I did play the knicks lightly though.

not to rehash the atomic bomb that occurred up in here earlier but, i think WJ needs to understand that if he calls a well respected pregame capper a joke he's probably going to get jumped on. if he had simply said, "hey, man, i don't think a dude should say 100% if the pick isn't actually a 100% lock" then that would have been ok.

As for Hook saying 100%, I think that was simply his way of saying that he really loved his pick and thought for sure it would win. If anyone took that as as representation by Hook that the pick was 100% guaranteed then the they have a huge misunderstanding of the type of activity gambling is. realistically, everyone knows there's no such thing as 100% in gambling so, you can't hold Hook to those words.

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 9:40 PM

Perfectly stated, G.  I offer you a golf-clap of approval, haha.

WJ, if you do decide to come back in this thread, and I hope you do, because I think with cool heads we can all make one another smarter, just remember to discuss ideas the way G described, and actually, the way YOU YOURSELF did when you asked me a couple follow-up questions.

I'm always open to answering questions if they're asked respectfully, and after your first post, which was inciting, you cleaned up your act.

So hopefully, tomorrow we can all return and discuss things like the wise sages that we are!

posted by guevones on 01/28/2010 9:42 PM

Brits --- I love soccer or, futbol, if you will. However, it's one of those games like baseball that are far better live and much more enjoyable when you really get into the nuances of the game. It's tough to get into around the U.S. with all the other big sports dominating the sports scene. soccer just can't seem to break through.

the lack of D played by PHX is just disgusting.

Dan, what are the rules in cursing up in here? Say, for instance, one had a small play on the under in this game right now, and that person really felt like dropping an f-bomb out of anger. is that frowned upon? or must it be en "eff" or f%^k"?

posted by Dan Bebe on 01/28/2010 9:51 PM

dan, you think SAS has their mojo back after last night? if so, with public opinion at an all time high on mempho (that's what some of us call memphis down here in the south), you feel like we are getting a little value here on the spurs and, if so, you like the spurs at all? obviously, i'm looking that direction myself, and looking forward to your thoughts on it.
