How are basketball picks different?
Basketball picks are slightly different than other sports picks because there is no common line for games. Most pro handicappers will very rarely make basketball picks on favorites greater than 7 points unless they believe it will be a huge rout. In baseball, there are a lot of one-run games, leading to the runline being offered as well at -1.5 or 1.5. In football, there are common numbers of 3, 6 and 7 points that a game can land on. But in basketball, a big favorite of less than 7 points is considered a good bet because of the two-possession rule. A team will generally foul an opponent if they are down 6 points or less until they reach the magic number of 7, which is more than two possessions. Definitely something to keep in mind when looking at basketball picks.
