Head-to-Head Recaps

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)

Miami wins 4-2 SU (Miami 5-1 ATS)
UNDER 6-0

6/2/06 - Game 6: MIAMI 95, Detroit 78 (ATS winner: Miami -4 | UNDER 179)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Heat outscored the Pistons by at least five points in every quarter but the last, which didn't really matter since they had already built a 19-point lead going into the fourth.  Detroit shot just 33 percent from the field and never really challenged Miami despite holding a fourth-quarter scoring edge for the second straight game.  That poor shooting again kept the game UNDER, as the loser failed to score 80 points for the third game in a row.

5/31/06 - Game 5: DETROIT 91, Miami 78 (ATS winner: Detroit -6 | UNDER 180.5)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Pistons scored the last nine points of the game and held the Heat without a point in the final 3 1/2 minutes to cover the spread.  Miami had pulled within 77-75 but was outscored 14-3 down the stretch, going just 6-of-20 from the free-throw line to send this game to an easy UNDER.

5/31/06 - Game 4: MIAMI 89, Detroit 78 (ATS winner: Miami -2 | UNDER 183)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: Detroit went on a 29-11 run during a seven-minute stretch in the third quarter to take a 57-53 lead, but Miami rallied back to take a 62-60 lead going into the fourth and didn't trail again.  Heat guard Dwyane Wade scored 12 of his 31 points in the fourth, when his team outscored the Pistons 27-18.  Detroit has failed to outscore opponents in 11 of the last 12 games, and 29 missed free throws combined by both teams helped this one go UNDER.

5/27/06 - Game 3: MIAMI 98, Detroit 83 (ATS winner: Miami -3 | UNDER 184)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Pistons trailed by 12 points entering the fourth quarter and then went on an 11-0 run to pull within 74-73 with 7:44 left.  Miami's Dwyane Wade then blocked a dunk attempt by Detroit's Antonio McDyess that would have given the Pistons the lead, and Wade completed a 3-point play just eight seconds later to help the Heat pull away again, igniting an 11-2 run that essentially ensured the cover.  A strong defensive effort by Miami limited Detroit to just 42 percent shooting from the field and kept the game UNDER.

5/25/06 - Game 2: DETROIT 92, Miami 88 (ATS winner +6.5 | UNDER 185)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Heat trailed by 12 points with 1:46 remaining but scored 17 from that point forward in a frantic finish to cover the spread.  Dwyane Wade hit a 3-pointer with 9.8 seconds left to pull Miami within 90-88 after Detroit was called for a 5-second violation.  However, the Heat was forced to foul, giving the Pistons two free throws for the final margin of victory.  Miami scored just 12 points in the first quarter and 19 in the third to help the total go UNDER.

5/23/06 - Game 1: Miami 91, DETROIT 86 (ATS winner: Miami +5.5 | UNDER 188.5)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: What looked like a sure-fire OVER after Miami took a 33-25 lead following the first quarter turned out to be just an easy cover and straight-up, series-opening victory for the Heat, who put the clamps on the Pistons defensively.  Detroit shot just 38 percent from the field and lost despite taking 18 more shots than Miami.

REGULAR-SEASON RESULTS

Detroit wins 3-1 (2-2 ATS)
OVER/UNDER 2-2

4/6/06 - Detroit 95, MIAMI 82 (ATS winner: Detroit Pick'Em | UNDER 187.5)
3/22/06 - DETROIT 82, Miami 73 (ATS winner: Detroit -7 | UNDER 194.5)
2/12/06 - MIAMI 100, Detroit 98 (ATS winner: Miami -1 | OVER 189.5)
12/29/05 - DETROIT 106, Miami 101 (ATS winner: Miami +6 | OVER 193)

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: The most noteworthy meeting between the teams came on national television back on February 12th in Miami, as Dwyane Wade scored 28 of his game-high 37 points in the second half to lead the Heat to a 100-98 victory.  Wade scored the team's last 17 points - a franchise record - in the last 4 1/2 minutes after Miami trailed 90-83.  The other three meetings were won by the Pistons, who held the Heat to an average of 77.5 points in the last two.  Detroit's defensive strategy was simple: allow Wade and Shaquille O'Neal to get their points and hold everybody else in check.  Both players averaged 28 points against the Pistons, but Jason Williams was the only other starter to score in double figures in any of the games.
