FIRST-ROUND RESULTS (HOME team in CAPS)
Dallas wins 4-0 SU & ATS
OVER/UNDER 2-2
5/1/06 - Game 4: Dallas 102, MEMPHIS 76 (ATS winner: Dallas -1.5 | UNDER 178.5)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: Dallas completed the sweep and kept Memphis without a playoff victory by playing outstanding defense. The Mavericks held the Grizzlies to 16 points in the second quarter and 15 in the fourth to keep the game UNDER, extending a 26-23 first-quarter lead throughout the rest of the game.
4/29/06 - Game 3: Dallas 94, MEMPHIS 89 OT (ATS winner: Dallas +1 | OVER 181)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: Dirk Nowitzki hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation, giving the Mavs just the spark they needed. Nowitzki then scored six of his team's 18 points in overtime to finish off Memphis. Dallas scored more points in OT than in the fourth quarter (16), helping the total go OVER.
4/26/06 - Game 2: DALLAS 94, Memphis 79 (ATS winner: Dallas -6.5 | UNDER 183)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: Dallas led 32-31 at the end of the first quarter, and that was the last time the Mavs or OVER were really threatened. The Grizzlies scored just 25 points during the second and third quarters combined, taking them out of the game and making for an easy UNDER.
4/23/06 - Game 1: DALLAS 103, Memphis 93 (ATS winner: Dallas -7.5 | OVER 177)
Recap | Boxscore
SUMMARY: The Mavs jumped out to a 60-51 lead on the NBA's best defensive team and then showed the Grizzlies how it's done in the fourth quarter, limiting them to just 15 points. Dallas' strong first half fueled the OVER, and Memphis wasn't much of a threat to cover in the fourth due to the team's anemic offense.

REGULAR-SEASON SERIES RECAP: Except for the first meeting, the Mavs used their much-improved defense and got just enough offensively to win the regular-season series from Memphis. Dallas finished as the 7th-best defensive team in the NBA, allowing 93.2 points per game, and held the Grizzlies to nearly 10 points less than that in the last three meetings. However, Memphis was the best defensive team in the league - giving up 84.4 points per game - and closed out the regular season as one of the hottest teams. Arguably two of the best European players in the world are showcased here in Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki (Germany) and Memphis' Pau Gasol (Spain). Nowitzki averaged nearly 28 points against the Grizzlies this season while Gasol struggled in the last three meetings, averaging 19.3 points after scoring 36 in the first.
